Boutique hotels, especially for the up-charge, aren't always the best bet and often prove to be overrated. Sailmaker's House exceeded expectations in every way. Location and included parking in Downtown Portsmouth already justifies the price, but what made it a wonderful stay was its quirky historic charms, modern amenities, and thoughtful details. Even during tourist season and weekends, there's flexibility with the types of rooms for a one night stay where other places insist on two night minimum. There may be a lack of minifridge and coffee maker in each room, but the communal space provides complementary filtered water, bags of ice, snack bags, and keurig machine, along with a soothing ambiance. The beds are like supportive clouds and you can just as quickly stroll through the nearby rose garden in Prescott Park as walk into a trendy restaurant or microbrewery because of the central location. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay there. Would recommend to others and will absolutely stay there again in future.

The bed was so comfortable I didn't want to leave it. It was so close to anything you want to see or do in Portsmouth. Parking right outside the door. It was so clean. Loved having access to tea, coffee and snacks. I would love to stay here again.

Bed was very comfortable, snacks were appreciated and plentiful, bathroom and linens were immaculate. We were staying only one night on our way to Maine and we will be staying when we return in June. And we will stay again when we spend a weekend shopping for our new home in Maine. So glad we found this beautiful and clean place to stay. Owners did a great job remodeling this place!

Needed a room in Portsmouth for the night and decided to try something other than a chain hotel. SO glad we did! Super friendly, responsive staff and the house itself is cozy and inviting. Love all the artwork. Coffee/water/snacks available anytime, including high-end teas, coconut milk, almond milk, and real dishes. Our room (#4) was IMMACULATE and I'm picky! Seriously -spotless! Luxuary linens, beautiful towels, such a comfy, fresh bed. We had a great night and slept like babies! We'll be back!
