We stayed here for 5 nights in September with work. I was a bit reluctant to book this hotel initially because it does seem to have mixed reviews. Our experience however was very positive, and I found it to be of a good standard and in a great location. We arrived during the evening and check in was quick and easy. The room was modern, clean and comfortable. My AC unit was a bit loud, but as I turned it off at night it was not an issue. Breakfast was included in the rate and was tasty and substantial every morning and served with a smile. The hotel has a nice pool and a small gym with cross trainers, bikes and treadmills, which was perfect for me. Throughout the hotel all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I have higher than usual demands on a hotel when I stay, and the staff here went out of their way and were able to really help me out. Thank you, it did not go unnoticed.

Dont stat at the Sheraton. Where do I begin. As a supposed Platnum Elite member I can tell you it's meaningless. We booked a room at the Sheraton Harborview in Portsmouth. We were told the room was a Delux King, with lounge access, bathroom with bath/tub. We requested a noontime check in, but instead sat in the lobby from noon till 4pm waiting for our room. We wanted cancel but we're told we would be charge the $900 either way. The room was very small and very basic, with no tub. So a 4 hour wait, a check in that wasn't until 4pm and a very over priced $900 room. We stay in Portsmouth regularly. Literally every other hotel is nicer, with larger rooms and 1/3 the price. The manager offer us 2000 points for the inconvenience, that's $18. Show quoted text

I stayed here in late September 2023. Hotel was nice in general, but had a few drawbacks that did not pose any great frustration. "Club Level" (5th floor) room had a king bed and was spacious for 1-2 people. Portsmouth Harbor was in view over the hotel entrance and parking. Room air conditioner made occasional sounds like broken glass hitting the floor, but it wasn't loud or distracting enough to interfere with my sleep. Bar and restaurant staff were very friendly. When I asked the front desk to arrange for a taxi, they simply handed me a business card so I could make the call myself. I called the taxi company they referred me to, and it sounded like I woke up the guy who answered the phone. He mumbled everything and the only thing I understood from him was that he wasn't going to send a taxi. Not a great referral by the front desk staff.

The stay at the hotel was OK. I had thought it was going tpo be great because when we checked in we were told we had been upgraded. While if our room was an upgrade I would hate to see what our room would have been otherwise (by the way when i returned home I lloked up our original room and it was the same as the supposed upgrade. The parking was nice but could have been expalined a little better on checking in. Also the TV in our room wasn't working properly and when I reported it to the fron desk they said it would be awhile before sending someone up to fix it. I told them forget it. Our view from the "upgraded" room was the valet parking area...not great. I thought we would be overlooking the water as I had requested. Room was neat and clean but when I went down to the pool my wife was in th room getting ready and maid service walked in on her while she was dressing. Quite an embarassing moment for sure. The location of the hotel is great as you are right downtown.

Very average hotel with small rooms. I wouldn’t consider this a upper level Marriott brand at all. This is more on the level of a entry level hotel. The rooms are clean, parking is an extra $30 a night for self park. The location is fine and the check in was swift. We would not stay here again.

Beautiful spot, very friendly staff, nicely appointed rooms, beautiful, clean lobby and hallways. Loss of one star due to: - very noisy A/C - filthy exhaust fan vent in bathroom Very good location and very good system of self parking with valet parking available for only $5 more than self.

STAY AWAY!!! This hotel is the worst. I have been a loyal Marriott member for years. In fact stay in Marriott Hotels at least once a month while I travel. First, they gave us a room that had not been cleaned, dog hair on the floor along with kibble, food in the fridge and crap in the shower. The second room was missing furniture and it smelled musty. The third room at least didn't smell but the shower and toilet, were disgusting. We went out and bought Clorox wipes and shower cleaner and cleaned it before we would use it. You would not believe the amount of crud we got out of the shower! Also, it rained pretty good while we were there, and it flooded the room, coming through the windows and soaking the furniture and the rug in the room. After that it smelled like a men's locker room and we got headaches and felt sick. When we called the front desk to complain they said they would send someone up to check but they never came. Also while we were there a Teamsters convention was going on in the hotel. It was a mad house. We walked in from having a lovely dinner one night dodging drunk hotel guests and had tp step over dog crap on the floor. Yes, a dog had crapped on the floor in front of the guest reception desk and no one had picked it up! However, the WORST thing they do is continue to charge pending charges on your credit card, even AFTER you check out of the hotel. I paid one night on my credit card and used my Marriott Points for the second night. However, they charged me both nights and then another $50 for incidentals as a hold. When I complained that they should have only charged one night on my card, I was told it would drop off after I checked out in two days. After I checked out, I was charged again for one night, and then the next day another charge for 2 nights showed up on my credit card. I understand that these are "pending" charges, but that also means that they have charged my card 5 nights for one paid night! Even if it is pending" charges it is taken out of your available balance until it "drops off" which could be 5-8 days later. . This was over $2000 in pending charges for a room that was supposed to cost $375 a night! This place is disgusting, they try to steal money off your credit card, the rooms are awful and they only care about their convention clients. I have NEVER had an experience at a Marriott property like I had at this one. And will never stay at a Sheraton again! Good Luck....

First time in Portsmouth for a double birthday getaway. Hoped for a harbor view understanding that they are limited. However, customer preferences of high floor away from elevator were ignored. Preferences and request acknowledged when checking in. We were not happy to find ourselves on the second floor next to the elevator with a view overlooking machinery. We brought all our belongings back to the front desk and told we can be moved to a higher floor. Still a mystery why preferences weren’t honored from the beginning. Valet leaves something to be desired for the $35 charge. Disappointing

I've stayed in four Marriott properties so far this year, two of which were Sheratons and this is by far the best one I've been to. It might even been the best hotel we've stayed at in years. It's beautifully remodeled: the hallways are well lit, the bar and dining area overlook the harbor and the room, while small, was clean and comfortable. There is infused water in the lobby (and cookies yesterday afternoon) and complimentary coffee near the elevators every morning. Downtown is a five minute walk away. What really made this property outstanding though was the people. Joe at the front desk was accommodating and fabulous. Inky left us a note which we appreciated and Sue who took care of the Lounge was welcoming and efficient. This service is top notch. Well done. We'll be back.
