This hotel is under renovation, which isn't a bad thing, but don't put guests in areas where construction is taking place. The smell of construction chemicals is everywhere. Building supplies are stacked in the hallways. Even "renovated" rooms aren't. My room was 2 doors down from major construction. The smell was so overpowering, I didn't sleep well, so I got up and walked around this lovely city. Only returned to the room to get my luggage and check out. For example, my "renovated" room is missing any sort of a working area. No table, no chair. Forget about working on your computer unless you sit on the bed. The TV is on the wrong side of the room. It's facing a space where a bed should be (but isn't), and there's no viewing angle from the existing bed. Of course, they could have put it on a swivel mount. The internet download speed is a stupidly slow 17 meg. If I use my phone as a hotspot, it's 352 meg!. Ask the front desk to switch you to a room that has a desk or a table, and you're told none of them do. The harbor is very close, but you wouldn't know it from the filthy windows The bathroom is a whopping 7' wide. If you need the safe, better be tall, it's 6' off the ground. The upside? It's a lovely city and many of the staff are very nice. The toiletries are above average. There’s coffee in the lobby, which is the only part of this hotel you should be in. But this hotel should close their doors until they get their act together, which I'm sure they will claim "is almost done". It’s a horrible mess. There are nice hotels in Portsmouth, choose another one. You’ll thank me later.

What an awesome experience. Hotel is really great. We stayed in really nice totally modern, renovated room, with a view of the harbor. The hotel is located in a perfect location in Portsmouth with walking access to all the great restaurants and right between Hampton and Ogunquit beaches. The hotel really know how to make the customers feel appreciated. Book early.. They fill up quickly. What truly separates this hotel from all others it the outstanding staff. Shannon at the front desk was awesome. She is a very warm and helpful person. Shannon exudes professionalism, customer centricity and attention to detail. She made sure every thing was absolutely perfect with out stay... Thank you so much Shannon, we will be back.. Our definite go to hotel in Portsmouth.. Kudos to CJ for an awesome job with the hotel and staff!

While everyone recommends a water view room, most rooms face either a parking lot or the railroad tracks. One important thing to know is that if you cannot get a water view and are facing the railroad track, you will hear the loud trains all night long. As others have noted, it is a property under construction so you will need to confirm that you are not staying near the construction. The renovated rooms are fine but a few things to note. There is absolutely no artwork on the walls. Everything is just beige and white. It's fine but it did seem unfinished. They also did not replace the doors, just repainted, and it is already peeling as was the bathroom ceiling b/c there is no bathroom fan. And the toilet seat was already broken too. The oddest thing was no washcloth. Plenty of other size towels but no washcloth. Asked three different housekeepers before one - and only one - was found. They said they were out. All of these things are not really to be expected when you are paying almost $400/night. Self pay parking is across the street and is $30 or valet for $35. I guess they make their money off that extra $5 most people will pay for valet? Make it easier to self park. It's not even a covered garage, just an empty lot by the railroad. Lastly, the service was poor. The front desk staff was not welcoming in anyway. Maybe like the guests, the staff aren't happy being there?! Has Sheraton not adopted Marriott standards? Friends stayed nearby at the Hilton and highly recommend that instead.

Loved the location of this hotel., quick walk to water and restaurants. The staff was all very friendly and rooms were clean. We didn’t eat in the restaurant or at the bar, but it looked like a nice restaurant. Enjoyed the coffee right outside the elevator doors each morning.

The lack of customer service from Marriott is unbelievable. We were very much looking forward to our trip to celebrate my grandson's birthday. However, we had an unforeseen emergency develop and despite THREE attempts to contact Marriott customer service prior to our trip, we didn't receive a response until AFTER we had checked out. Not what I expected from Marriott. We booked the suite with two bedrooms and a living room. The view of the harbor was spectacular; however, the holes in the screens (and I mean large pieces of the screens were missing!) allowed us very limited access to the balcony. Flies came into the room and we were unable to get rid of them for the remainder of our stay. Also be aware, the suite is two stories, with the bedrooms upstairs. From the description on the website, I was unaware of this. The hallway to our room was very narrow and it is quite a process to wheel a luggage carrier to your room. The second night of our stay, the microwave stopped working. When I called the front desk to report the problem, I was told there was no maintenance person on duty but I could use the microwave near the front desk on the first floor. We were on the fourth floor. Considering what we paid for this room, this response was totally unsatisfactory. And one other note you should be aware of is if you write to the manager, which we did, he has a standard response. If you read other reviews of this property, you will see what I mean. He writes that he wants to regain your confidence. Unfortunately, after we wrote a detailed e-mail to him explaining our situation and concerns, we never received an answer. So in conclusion, you definitely do not get what you pay for - look elsewhere for a hotel that values your business and listens to you.

We were very surprised the room price was roughly $600 … but decided OK let’s splurge. When we checked in they asked if we wanted housekeeping which I assumed was a COVID protocol. Today we went out for a full day and returned to an uncleaned room after 3:00 pm which wasn’t awful just doesn’t fit the price point! We were told by another guest they doubled the room rate because they had to scale back the number of rooms and are understaffed. My review serves to communicate that increasing price with decreased service without notifying customers is a bad idea for a National brand. Sheraton is in the Bonvoy family. We tend to trust Marriott Bonvoy but this is a big setback. We’ve spent more for a room, we are luxury travelers, but this is a poor experience at a top of market price. We check out tomorrow and would not recommend. The 3 star is because the property is well located and relatively fresh.

Dear 463gailg, Thank you for choosing to stay at Sheraton Portsmouth Harborside and providing us with your honest feedback. Feedback is always welcomed and appreciated. I understand the value received was not up to your expectations and I can imagine that this must have been frustrating. I have followed up with our Housekeeping Manager and I apologize for the late timeliness of your room to be serviced, however I can assure you that we are not short staffed, nor have a reduced inventory. Should you want to discuss you experience further, I would enjoy the opportunity to do so and earn back your confidence. We hope to welcome you back on your future travels to this area. Nice location, amenities were decent. Overall level of service was below standards, specifically for reception desk and bar/restaurant. Rooms nice but not well insulated for noise. Club was quite small.

The hotel is in a great location & lovely (especially since the renovations); however, you should also expect to hear every single door on your floor slam shut. The walls a very thin & you WILL hear everything out in the hallway. Whatever you do, do not get a room anywhere near the ice machine.

Great hotel, great location, have stayed here several times in the past though all pre-pandemic. Rooms all redone, nice service, but at $700/night, not club level, would expect perfect. One bed stand light on one side only made it impossible for two to read in bed. Ridiculous. Need USBs on both sides also. And no electric charging station. Seriously? Less expensive hotels in Portsmouth advertise a Tesla charge station or at least a generic. Unacceptable. Not staying there again, not at that price.

We stayed here for a conference and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. I read the reviews and I was concerned to stay here. In my experience, there was construction across from the hotel. I did not experience any observation of construction within the hotel. I stayed here several years and I was pleasantly surprised of the updates with great views. When you walk into the lobby it is pleasant, lighting could be better but it was inviting. Rooms were updated, sleek and completely and perfectly decorated - all was new. The lobby restaurant was nicely furnished and inviting. Not many tables and not crowded. U shaped bar and and always had people at it throughout the day; the servers and bartenders were kind and welcoming. The location was perfect and walking distance to everything in town.
