Me, my wife, my 15 year old son, and our dog Luna stayed at the Common Man this week while on vacation and absolutely loved it. The hotel is right off the highway for easy access. Most importantly, they are "dog friendly" ! They have some (not all) rooms that are dog friendly. They set the room up nice with a doggy bed, water and food bowls, a doggy towel, and a custom treat. The pet friendly wing is set up with its own separate entrance so you can take your pet in and out for walks without going through the lobby. The room was large with very comfortable beds. The hotel itself has rustic decor, but is very nice and clean. Staff is super friendly and willing to help. The hotel is in an historic mill building and there are old photos and memorobilia throughout the hotel, which is very interesting to look at. We were "social distancing" so we didn't use the bar or restaurant, but they looked nice. Free breakfast included was delicious and the cook was very friendly. Highly recommend if travelling with your dog !

I have stayed at the Inn for more than 15 years for an annual trip. Overall, we enjoy our stay however, there are areas that need some attention. The hallways throughout the Inn are in need of new carpeting as are the rooms. Many areas have ripples in the carpet which creates a tripping hazard. The stairway on the left of the lobby that goes to the second floor is very dimly lit. Its not that easy to see the stairs during the day or night.
Our room was comfortable and clean but it could really use a face-lift, as could the bathroom. The blankets on the beds were just awful!! The blankets were an "army gray" color which I found strange and both blankets on each bed were covered in lint! Lint got on everything during our stay, pants, shirts, sweaters etc., it was very annoying. It appeared as if the blankets were purchased at a surplus sale. Since we stay there during the holiday weekend, Fosters is usually very crowded so we eat out and try other local restaurants. However, when we return to the Inn, the bar closes at 11pm , many times the bar staff appears a bit annoyed if we arrive at 10:30 for some cocktails. I really wish Fosters (at least the bar area) would stay open later, even 11:30 pm would give guests more time to enjoy themselves before calling it a day. Lastly, if you want to spend the day at the Inn and enjoy the Spa etc, there is no lunch or food available until 4 pm. Please consider some lunch options or some pre-made sandwiches for guests who don't want to leave the Inn on a 15 degree day to find a soup or sandwich.
Overall, we enjoy our stay but the Common Man needs some uncommon upgrades to "wow" me again as it did the first time I walked through the doors.

Boy! What an absolute gem. I very rarely write reviews but as I sit here in front of the lobby fire sipping (locally sourced) coffee with my wife and children still sleeping, I thought I would take a few minutes to let folks know what a magical experience this has been. From the initial phone call booking accomodations with the front desk to our entrance into the main lobby greeting it was uniquely warm and friendly. I'm typically not a big small talker, but found myself engaging with hotel employees several times throughout our 3 day stay. We stayed in the 2 bedroom signature suite and it was not only one of the largest rooms I've ever stayed in, but one of the most comfortable and we'll appointed with genuine NH rustic charm. The on-site eateries were incredible and the ambiance hypnotic. So many books and crannies to explore, relax, sit, read or just lounge. Spread out everywhere throughout the hotel/inn. Salt water pool, while a bit small, was warm and located in a nice area that included a rock wall waterfall hot tub.Sauna also there. Did not take advantage of the in-house Spa but looked to have it all. Our children often absolutely loved our time here and it is unlikely we will ever stay anywhere else on our annual "Christmas getaway" to the White mountains. Truly, I could go on and on with all the superlatives. We hate to leave today. If ever anywhere near the area or looking for a unique first class experience, I could not recommend The Common Man Inn and Spa more highly.

Booked pregnancy massage, facial, body scrub, mani/pedi and lunch for a friend and I.

Front desk called a week later that they didn’t have anyone licensed to do prenatal massages. Asked I call back in 2 weeks to see if they had hired anyone. Called back 2 weeks later and was told everyone was licensed in prenatal but our appointment wasn’t booked because no therapists wanted to pick up the shift and work. Was told to call back in a week to check in if anyone picked up the shift. After 5 weeks of calling back we cancelled massage and body scrub because no employees were available to work and front desk didn’t know if body scrub was safe for pregnancy.

Showed up for facial, nails and lunch. No slippers, robe didnt fit, and was not given a tour of facilities.

Manicures we’re first and we were told it’s NOT A REAL NAIL SALON. They don’t soak your hands, no hand massage, no lotion, no cuticle trimming. They scraped cuticles back on dry skin. Hands were bleeding. Had to wait for bleeding to stop to get polish. Did one coat. Had to ask for a second. No top coat or base. Less than 20 colors to choose from. They don’t remove gel because they don’t have the tools. Had to wait for gel to be removed and was only given 15 mins to eat lunch.

They didn’t have time to remove gel so we did not get pedicures.

Facial was great but staff shared everyone was overworked and they couldn’t hire enough staff.

Manager was not available during check out to adjust bill so paid full price for services not performed.

Do not visit this spa, the poor employees are overworked and exhausted and you will not receive the services you booked/ paid for.

@commonmanspa my appt was October 23rd if you would like to call and refund me. Tried calling twice since my visit. The first time the front desk person answered and said to a colleague “I have no idea what she wants” and hung up on me.

We came to the Inn to celebrate our anniversary. The Spa was relaxing and clean. Pool area is very small, and does not appear to have been updated at any time, and appeared to be in need of some general maintenance.

The restaurant was nice and had a good atmosphere. The waitstaff was friendly and did a good job. Nice selection of food and drinks. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive.

We stayed in one of the specialty rooms, and we had stayed in this room previously on another trip. They do not appear to have been putting much money toward the upkeep in the rooms. The bed was uncomfortable, and the bathrooms need some updating.

There was some sort of function going on in a few of the function rooms, and the noise kept us awake until past midnight. There was a loud banging noise that did not stop for about 5 hours which appeared to be coming from the kitchen area near the function rooms. We had to call the front desk, and they did call back saying they checked the area and couldn't find what was making the noise (although it magically stopped right after we called the front desk).

The front desk staff was friendly during check-in and check out.

Our stay here was average. Unfortunately, it was not very relaxing or restful due to the noise from the kitchen area until the late-night hours, and due to the noises from the different functions that were going on throughout the day time hours. The building isn't very soundproof, and when they have 2 or more functions going on you can hear it throughout the entire building, and the lobby became overcrowded with people attending the functions. It was unfortunate due to our first stay being a lot different.

We chose the Common Man for our Valentine's Day getaway primarily because it was in our home state (avoiding covid restrictions in going to other states) and because I wanted a pool and hot tub. It was advertised as being homey and quaint, but was just a large inn and, I thought, very impersonal. The front desk staff was nice and efficient, but not overly friendly. Our room was just a regular hotel room, except all the furniture was supposedly made from natural wood. The room was clean, although somewhat faded. Everything from the heat to the mini-fridge was in good working order. The paint inside the shower stall, however, was peeling. Also...there were no filters for the coffee machine, so I thought it was one of those that didn't need a filter. My bad....we had to clean up a huge mess when the coffee all leaked out of the machine. After checking in, we immediately headed for the pool. Pros: the pool water was very warm, there were couches to sit on while waiting your turn in the pool, they played nice relaxing music. Cons: it had zero ambiance (some plants and twinkle lights would have gone a long way towards making it more pleasant.) There was a wood stove that was not on. (again, ambiance). We didn't realize until after we got into the pool that they didn't have towels in the pool area, you had to ask for them at the spa. And we had to ask at the spa for robes as well. (sorry we dripped water on your spa floors). The hot tub was very nice and perfect for two people. I was extremely disappointed in the complimentary breakfast - typical bagels, muffins and yogurt. The one "hot entree" was cold scrambled eggs and home fries. All in all, Hubby and I had a nice time, as we always do when we spend a weekend away together. The inn was okay, but I certainly didn't feel like we were in the lap of luxury.

What a HUGE disappointment. Having previously lived in the Plymouth area I was very familiar with the Common Man family of properties especially the Inn in Plymouth, NH. My wife and I were looking forward to returning to the area to celebrate our 60th anniversary and chose the Common Man Inn in Plymouth. The posted reviews were all favorable so I called and made the reservation and was also very specific to let them know we were there to celebrate a major milestone in life. Well I'm sorry to report that our experience with both most of the personnel and the facility were a HUGE disappointment. Upon our late arrival (they were notified in advance) we got to our room and wanted to turn on the fireplace (it was cool outside and in the room) only to find out (per front desk person) that the gas for the fireplace isn't turned on until September. We then tried the room AC/ Heater and that too did not want to produce any heat. The next morning I did complain to the innkeeper on duty and they did arrange for both units to be fixed and we left for the day. We returned to the room at approximately 5:00 that afternoon and upon entering the room we were hit with what felt like a blast furnace. The individual who fixed the fireplace left the thermostat on at 90 degrees and flames burning brightly. In addition the room was not at all made up i.e. no trash removal, no towel replacement and bed unmade. After 2 hours of high AC cooling and windows open the room finally became livable. Again down to the front desk to complain to which I got a response that blew me away, her response "well the in house repair person probably got called away and forgot to turn down the thermostat and as far as the room well we charge $2.00 / day for cleaning so I'll be happy to credit you the $2.00" So that was just the beginning of the 4 day nightmare. During the 4 days our bed was made up only once and trash was removed twice. Oh, I will add that everyone in the hotel knew we were celebrating a milestone anniversary but management must have forgotten as there wasn't even a note saying congratulations let alone being offered a glass of wine or something in their restaurant. We have stayed at facilities that don't have the same ratings as this but certainly know how to treat guests. The only positive was Lee at the front desk who tried his best to make things more tolerable. I won't begin to describe the weekend morning breakfast fiascos and attempted food charges that are free to all guests.
Attached are a few picture of our room 211 showing wallpaper coming off the walls and the beautiful ripped curtains. Bottom line this facility certainly (in our opinion) does not deserve the ratings and is definitely not worth the prices that they are charging. Too many other options for people to choose even if it's a short drive away.

We were unable to book at room at the Inn and instead booked at what theIn staff called the newly renovated Lodge, about a half mile from the Inn.
This was an old motel. The exterior appearance wan less than Appealing. While there was a sign at the road, the building was rough. Crumbling, not inviting at all. There is not always someone there at the desk, so we were given a building key as well as our room card. The stairways to go to the second floor were dirty and old. The ice machine was out of order. The exterior doors were propped open with a chunk of cement t block.
The room had been renovated somewhat. The bed was comfy, linens decent. The bathroom fixtures were new. Chairs were dated, and it was crowded. The fan in the toilet/ shower space did not work. I let the person at the desk In The morning know. He had to look up from his phone to answer me. I doubt it was reported any further.
The lobby was upgraded somewhat, as well.
Overall opinion is that this facility did not live up to the standard of the Common Man. It should not be open until it is done. It was not worth over $200 for a night.

The best part of this Inn was their restaurant Foster's Boiler Room. The food was very good and the staff was wonderful. Thanks to Ava, Brendan and Richard!!!!
Even though we stayed in a pet friendly room (had no choice at the time of booking) the rugs smelled like pet urine. Why would they have rugs in this kind of room to begin with? There was no bottled water in the room; you have to buy it at a vending machine. What? Never been to any place that didn't supply bottled water. For a warm continental breakfast you only had one choice of that day's specials. It was a breakfast sandwich and home fries. Totally dry. The only other foods were breads and cereals and of course coffee, tea and juice. No fruit or yogurt or anything resembling a continental breakfast. I didn't expect a huge buffet but seriously this was more like cafeteria food. I wouldn't go back there again.

I wanted to like this inn more than I did. It was average at best. The cute and kitschy decor does not make up for the fact that this place is in desperate need of a facelift! I might have been able to ignore the smelly and worn carpeting throughout, tired furnishings, frayed towels, and the desk clerk’s surly attitude at the spa, but not at the rates they were charging! Unfortunately, I won’t be back.

You can take your breakfast outside on the patio, but not sure if the restaurant has outdoor seating. Plenty of restaurants with outdoor seating 5 minutes down the road in the center of town.

Do the pet rooms have doors to the outside? Does the Inn offer room service?
Answer from Cindy K

There are sliding doors that lead to small private decks from the rooms, but the doors to the outside parking lot, etc. are not far away from your main door in the hallway. There is room service, and you should know they will add on a premium to the price on the menu. Do not add a tip as they've already tipped themselves quite generously. They would not charge ours to our room, either, so be prepared with cash or credit card.
