A Graylag vacation is a great choice for families and friends who want to leave everyday life behind and get close to the natural world of the New England woodlands. Swimming, boating, sailing, fishing and hiking on our 300 acres of woodlands will energize your days, and evenings are quiet so you can hear the calls of owls and loons. Graylag is the perfect place for family reunions, gatherings of friends, business conferences, and retreats. We provide an environmentally friendly setting without sacrificing such important comforts as firm beds, crisp sheets, hot showers, reading lights, and well-equipped kitchens. We don't have TVs because our guests enjoy getting away from the constant din of everyday life. There is free WiFi in one of our guest cabins as well as in the community lodge. All our cabins have electricity, hot and cold running water, living and dining areas, kitchens, and bathrooms. Please: No loud parties -- just quiet relaxation in a beautiful setting.

We have rented many cabins over the years but this place is right up there with the best! We had the entire resort to ourselves for two nights. We loved hiking a few miles of their lovely trails and seeing so many varieties of mushrooms! Canoeing around Wild Goose Pond was so peaceful, 45 minutes surrounded by perfect fall foliage, no motors, no jet skis! Perfect! Heard owls at dusk, one flew right over us and you could hear its huge wings! Spectacular sunset and cozy campfire ended a perfect day. The cabin was decorated simply and just right. The bed is in the main area, but that was fine. Just loved this place!

My husband and I visited in July 2020 with our eight grandchildren and their parents. We were there for 12 days and it only rained for a couple of hours. We swam in the pond (which is the size of a small lake) and our grandkids used the kayaks and paddleboards the whole time we were there. They have life jackets in all sizes for your safety and convenience. If you go in the summer, I definitely recommend bringing extra fans (they have fans in every room) because there is no A/C and it can become very warm during the day (nights were more comfortable). We spent very little time in the cabin but it accompanied all of us comfortably. We had a four bedroom two bath cabin. There are some restaurants, a Dunkin Donuts and a Walmart a short distance away. We all had a great time.

I had high expectations for Graylag based on the wonderful web site and page. I was not disappointed! In fact there is so much more at Graylag than words or pictures can communicate. Graylag was conceived with the purpose of sharing a beautiful natural site with others who appreciate the simple pleasure of nature. The concept of space, place and intent invite the Graylag guest into a journey of discovery in the moment. The many trails, roadway and pine benches offer the traveler, of all ages, a place to sit and soak up the sounds, scents and sights of nature in all of its grand and detailed beauty. Whimsical artistic pieces, well placed like hidden treasures, capture the attention, and lead the mind to take notice and not hurry by, lost in the thoughts and worries of yesterday or tomorrow. Graylag is about being fully present in the moment in nature. It offers an opportunity that opens eyes and hearts to the beauty around us if we only stop to give it our full attention. This is the place to visit alone or with family. The setting, the people, and the intent to create a space that offers a peaceful nature retreat, welcomes the visitor to experience the discovery, learning, and healing that nature provides - if we make and take the time to be fully present.

The memories of our weekend at Bower Cabim will be with us always. We stumbled on Graylag looking for a quiet getaway in nature and it far surpassed our expectations. We swam on the gorgeous lake every day; hiked along the peaceful trails; canoed and kayaked; basked in the sun while lathering up in the outdoor shower...tried to take a brief rest on each of the beautifully crafted benches throughout the camp but that was impossible! We will be back for more memories of this gem of a place Louise and Mike

We have been coming to Graylag for many years and it is like home to us. The cabins are lovingly cared for and have lots of charm. They are full of unique furnishings collected over the years at local auctions. We love all the cabins, but have spent most of our time at Lakeside. The generous porch offers a gorgeous view of the lake and is just a wonderful place to spend your time. I especially love the outdoor shower (there are two indoor ones) and enjoy looking up at the trees as I shower. There are plenty of hammocks strung between the trees for naps or reading. We cook almost every dinner outside at the fire pit by the lake. We even make blueberry (picked from the many bushes on the property) pancakes on the open fire. Carl knows all the great local places to visit if you can bring yourself to leave. Wild Goose Pond is a beautiful lake and we enjoy swimming, canoeing, sailing and kayaking. It is very clean and often you have the whole lake to yourself. My son and husband love to go fishing. I enjoy canoeing and looking for beaver and loons. One of my favorite things is to hear their call at night. There are wonderful hiking trails on the property which is carefully and lovingly managed according to the teachings of famed naturalist Aldo Leopold. This is no less than a perfect oasis. As my kids say, it wouldn't be summer without a trip to Graylag.

Graylag is so beautiful, peaceful and magical place full of mother nature The time with your loved ones at cabin will strengthen your bonds and continue to reflect in your life. It is worth to visit from any part of the world. I enjoyed early morning walk to the lake, taking bath in the cabin, and hammock. I’d love to come back again. 母なる大地と神秘に包まれるとても平和で美しい場所です。 あなたが世界のどこにいても訪れる価値のあるすばらしいところです。

We traveled to Graylag cabins after the hurricane in Florida. We had planned the trip to attend a wedding close by while also visiting family in the area. We stayed almost a week in the cabin next to the lake. It was very quiet and great place to get away from the rat race a few days and find some peace. The owners were very kind and very accommodating during our stay. I am from Alaska and grew up in peace and quiet. i couldn't help but feel like I was at home again. I highly recommend for those who want a few days of down time. Highly recommend canoe and kayak rides during the day and sitting by a small fire in the evenings. Be sure to listen to the birds on the lake. The cabin was very clean! To the owners: Thank you for keeping things natural and preserving land.

Our family rented Lakeside, Birches and Bower Cabins for a week in late June for a perfect reunion week. We celebrated the life of my husband's mother, a native of NH who asked us to take her "home" before she died. There were 2 dozen of us from ages 6-70, who felt the peace, calm and healing magic of this extraordinary place. We had everything we needed, or got it in 10 minutes - thanks to Nic, Carl and Fran. Their attention to guests, without ever being intrusive, is amazing. When we had a tank leak, Nic replaced the toilet so it wouldn't happen again. What they have done with their cabins is create a true early 1900's camp feeling, not a fancied-up 2017 version. No TVs and electronics get in the way of outdoor activities and indoor games, crafts and boating, swimming and hiking! The 1930s art, decoys, oriental rugs, old furniture, and amazing woodwork in each cabin are beautiful, unique, lovingly curated, locally found and authentic! Our kids loved the outdoor showers, complete with hot water. Carl has gone to great lengths to find pieces that are regional, original, hand-crafted and perfect. Wisely, the beds, linens, stoves, washers, dryers, indoor showers/tubs and water heaters are new and comfortable. Even the soaps are local, green and homemade - such attention to detail requires staying at least a week to really appreciate! There is no a/c, but plenty of fans are available when needed. Lots of fresh air makes for good sleeping! We cooked all our meals (21 of them) at Graylag - planned meals in advance and bought food in Concord at Sam's. Kitchens are small, but reminded me of my grandmother's - we turned out a lot of good meals. We did need to make a few ice runs to keep beverage coolers filled. (Refrigerator space was needed for food, not drinks!) Loved the evening firepit by the lake for making s'mores, cooking hot dogs and hamburgers. Bring your good bug spray! Kitchens have crock-pots for ease of planning for a crowd, WiFi was available for those willing to search a bit for it. I was glad to be without for a week! There are 1000 other reasons I could give for saying Graylag is one of the most perfect places one could vacation and really connect with family and friends. Just go see for yourself! Thanks to Carl, Fran, Nic and the Graylag Team for everything! Hope to stop by this fall and see you again. The Crawford Family

My wife and I stayed at Graylag last year for 2 nights and we, very luckily and by chance, had the whole camp to ourselves. We loved it so much that this year we decided to rent the whole place for ourselves and a couple of friends for 5 days. It was all we hoped for. The quiet, the natural beauty, fantastic swimming, comfortable accommodations and so much space, held us in it's thrall and left us feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Meditating on the water (on the floating dock) finding a hammock in the woods to read or nap in, writing on a table or one of the many handmade benches scattered throughout the woods, kayaking and paddle boarding, sitting by the big fire each night, helped slow our internal idling. Speaking for myself, I left changed and wanting many more days. At one point I found myself walking to a favorite spot in my usual fast paced stride and, suddenly, I slowed, literally smelled the nearby flowers which were so sweet my mouth watered. I tuned in to the surroundings and they dictated my pace from that moment on and for the rest of my stay. Needless to say it was much more relaxed and aware and appreciative. The glow of those days, like late summer sunlight, resonated deeply with me and has stayed with me. I find myself wondering what a month at Graylag would feel like. Thanks so much Carl for providing us with Graylag!

I I rarely travel, but I have begun to travel more and more in the last few years. In my recent travels I was blessed to visit the Graylag Cabins resort in New Hampshire. So this review is not going to sound very professional, but my visit did push me to write a review. First, I am not sure who is the master carpenter at Graylag, but there is wood everywhere in the cabins. All of the doors, walls, kitchen and bath counters appear to have been made on-site. The resort is not the Hilton or the Marriott, but the cleanliness as on par with the nicest chains of American hotels. Do not worry about water quality because the water is crystal clear and you can see evidence of new pipework through out the campus. If you go to the Graylag, you have to go to the cabin that has the large screened in porch that over looks the lake. It gives a “gotta see once in your life” view of a Northern lake that is amazing. You can actually sit and watch the fish leaping out of the water and listen to the wonderful sounds of the night. The night sounds are not overwhelming, but created a wonderful soundtrack for my visit. If you are a parent wishing to drag your children away from the 65 inch television or to drag yourself away from the Xbox and Playstations for a time, Graylag is a wonderful place to do so. Another interesting feature, of Graylag is the multiple unique fire-pit locations around the campus. One night we were at the upper fire pit that was surrounded but massive boulders, as if God himself meant that there would always be a fire pit at that spot. Another night we used the fire-pit closer to the lake side. That fire-pit was totally different than the other one and having the lake in the background with the sounds of the forest competing with the crackle of the fire, was magical. There is a cabin that is set up as an activity room that has a very decent piano that does well for those who know how to play. The bathrooms are very clean and modern. Now for the negatives and even though I gave the Graylag five stars, I feel I have to mention the bad with the good. The first problem, that I had at the Graylag can not be corrected by the owners of the Graylag. This issue is the misquotes. I am from Maryland and have experienced misquotes while hunting and traveling throughout the South that “bit” harder and left massive welts, on my skin compared to the misquotes at Graylag. The mosquitoes, that I experienced during my visit at the Graylag, were tenacious. Not huge and not micro misquotes, and not even simply ones from the same breed. The mosquitoes just kept coming and coming. I could not believe how I would swat and kill a mosquito, just to have three mosquitoes begin their attack. So, be ready for the mosquitoes before you arrive. Stay away from the cheap watery brands, get something that will actually work. A visit to the Graylag is not the time to purchase the cheapest repellent. The second negative might be considered the ultimate plus for some people thinking about a trip to a camp site. The cellphone coverage is extremely limited and spotty at best throughout the resort. Even visitors with newer cellphones, struggled to get a constant signal. The resort does have very decent wifi coverage in the cabins and amazingly a pretty strong wifi signal at the lakeside firepit and on the docks. So for a person like me, who loves to check his cellphone for the latest news and goofy YouTube videos, I quickly became an expert in finding strong wifi locations around the campus. If you want to get away from society and your office calling your cellphone, then Graylag is a perfect place. Also, very very important. The nearest WalMart is a 30 minute drive from the resort to the town of Concord. I did not see any similar stores such as Target or Kmart in the surrounding area. There is a small store that someone found closer, but I believe they reported a very limited offering. So, shop for what you might need before you go to the actual resort. Lastly, if you are a person that might be a night-owl, there is a small dirt road that runs through the resort, but there are no lights. It was a bright moonlit night, but the trees blocked out most of the light. So, make sure you bring flashlights or lanterns for you late night walks. In closing, I will say that the Graylag is an eyeopener and made for a wonderful vacation outing. Just make sure you bring a flashlight and cans of spray-on bugs repellent.

Thank you for sharing your insights and experiences. We will let our master woodworker know how much you enjoyed his handiwork! As for the insects, of course they are a part of our natural world, but if you want to minimize exposure, consider returning later in the season. Hope to see you again next summer!
