We stayed overnight at this inn, where we stayed almost 40 years ago and greatly appreciate the updates made during that time. The pros of staying here are it’s large room with a separated sitting area, so I could watch TV without disturbing my husband who preferred to read, nice A/C unit and ceiling fan, delicious breakfast with a view of the inn’s lovely garden, staying in a room on the main floor, and being within walking distance of the great shops, restaurants, and the playhouse. The cons are that you CANNOT check in earlier than 3PM (don’t even try to negotiate an earlier check in), the lock on our door broke so we couldn’t lock it, and NONE of the ice machines worked. The inn is very quiet, so we had the opportunity to relax and reconnect with this beautiful college town. If you can deal with the cons we encountered, then you’ll really enjoy staying here.

We expected a lot of charm from an inn built in the 1700s. We stayed three days. The first night was pent in a tiny room which was almost uninhabitable. The bed was so worn it nearly touched the floor on worn springs. The bath was about the size of a phone booth. The floor was so warped you could practically slide across the room. The ac barely worked. Next morning we asked to change rooms. It was better, but the door to the bathroom was nearly broken and hung partially open. The bed was ok this time. There never was a manager available the whole time. Checking out was horrible and took 30 minutes because none of us including the clerk could explain the bill. Finally we all broke it down until we could decipher what we owed. One positive was the restaurant and the wait staff there. They were very good.

We just stayed at the New London Inn, and I ended the visit cancelling reservations that I had already made for stays later this summer. The rooms were sub par, and whenever I was looking for staff, they were usually hanging out together and not paying much attention to the guests unless you interrupted them. My mother was with us, and she has difficulty walking. They put her on the 3rd floor, and no staff offered her assistance with her belongings. She also had to change rooms after one night because the room they put her in initially should never be rented. The carpet and couch were stained and dirty, the bed was extremely squeaky and uncomfortable. My room was better, but I almost fell trying to get in the shower climbing over the high side of a claw footed tub (which looked quaint) with no hand rails. At checkout, there was no manager on site, and we could have used someone in a position of authority to help decipher out final bill. The two girls who were trying to check us out just blamed the confusion on their convoluted billing system that confuses EVERYONE. I also, am upset that my parents were even charged for the first night because the room was so incredibly bad. The staff also agreed the room was bad and proceeded to tell us how it is soon to be renovated, yet still charged full price for such an awful room.

We stayed 2 nights at the New London Inn with a class dinner there. Our room was spacious and comfortable, biggest complaint was the toilet paper holder was hard to reach. I cannot say enough about the staff, they were really attentive before & during the class dinner for 40, and generally helpful.

I have been to New London Inn many times and have enjoyed it each time. It has that old home charm that brings you back in time. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the food at the restaurant is wonderful. The breakfast is top quality--so unlike a chain hotel. Whenever I go to visit family in the area I look forward to my time at New London.
