The hotel is beautiful. However, on Memorial Day weekend, with pretty low customer action the restaurant and bar service was awful! We came down for our complimentary breakfast at 8:40....with at least 5 empty tables int he dining room we waited 50 minutes before we were seated. Once seated the servers served water to people who came in the restaurant AFTER us. He took there order as well...and while serving water to customers who were waiting longer never turned to serve us water or even acknowledge that we were there. I went to the check in desk to ask the hostess to help....10 minutes later, still no sever....we left...while the dining room manager chased us to offer to PAY FOR OUR BREAKFAST. Hello, we already "PAID" Same eventing we went to the bar, bartender served someone who walked in after us. asked us what we wanted and continued to tend to other customers.!!! TERRIBLE WAIT STAFF.…
We booked a Harbor View Deluxe King for a one night stay for last night, May 21, back in September 2021 so that we could attend UNH graduation. Marriott reconfirmed twice this week. We called the hotel on Saturday to advise them that we would be arriving after dinner, but, under no circumstances would be a no-show (the room was guaranteed with a credit card). We arrived at 9PM to be told that no rooms were available and that our reservation would not be honored. We were offered a room, instead, at a Courtyard some (inconvenient) distance away. Instead of a Harbor view, we had a parking lot view. The front desk basically shrugged and said there was a ‘system error,’ which is, frankly, simply insulting. I asked to speak with the General Manager and was told that he was off-premises and could not be disturbed. I was promised a call back, which I have not received. I left a voicemail message for Mr. Bartlett this morning. He not returned my call. They know exactly how many rooms they have and how many reservations to take. There is simply no excuse, ever, for not honoring a guaranteed reservation (you can bet that if we had NOT showed, my credit card would have been charged). Neither is there any excuse at all for failing to reach out or return my calls to address this problem. Incompetence, indifference, and total lack of accountability. I see from the reviews below that Mr. Bartlett responds to negative reviews. Perhaps he should consider, instead, solving problems in real-time and returning his messages.…
This is our go to spot anytime we are in the area. Our oldest is at the University of New Hampshire and although there are closer Marriott hotels, there is nothing like the scenery and the staff at this beautiful resort. Prices are reasonable and it is obviously very well run as everything is always so beautiful.
Honestly unimpressive given the luxury price tag. Feels a little shabby throughout…not a big deal but for example my bar stool at Salt was totally worn out with the leather peeling apart. Kind of a bummer given the beautiful setting/building. Room was lovely but oddly spare… no drinking glasses (Covid protocol?), no pen, no shower cap, fridge didn’t work. I went down to the desk for a pen, but come on. Service was friendly with no issues but not comparable to other luxury hotels. Spa was completely booked which was a big disappointment (I called to book 2+ weeks ahead of my stay and was told they were fully booked for 2 months). The restaurant is nice but dated and the menu is odd, lots of winter squash on the menu in May? Just feels stale. I came here for a little mom staycation but wish I stayed downtown or went elsewhere for a little more pampering experience.…
We were told about the Wentworth by the sea from an associate. They were spot on about how fantastic it is. It’s a very old structure with tons of charm but has been updated many times over the years. The rooms are big and spacious with plenty of room to spread out. We had a partial view of the water which was beautiful. It’s about 3 miles from the very charming downtown Portsmouth, but really no big deal. The hotel is In a fantastic area among beautiful homes and views of the inlets and ocean, so the location is excellent. The only qualm we have is the bathroom tub needed a little maintenance, but not a big deal. This hotel is highly rated by us.
The front desk staff at Wentworth were literally some of the rudest people that I've ever met. I took a few days off from work to enjoy the Wentworth and the indoor pool/hot tub. Without notice, they closed the pool/hot tub. I was told "It's the slow season". "I can't do anything about it." I went to the front desk again looking for a remedy. They offered 25,000 points (I found out later that they never credited the points). After two visits to the front desk, they offered to let me use the hot tub. Marriott Wentworth has another hot tub in the building but were only offering it to folks that complained enough. Stressing people out seems to be their goal. Please don't stay at the Marriott Wentworth. Stay downtown if you want to visit Portsmouth.
As an essential healthcare worker, my husband booked a spa weekend for us as a Christmas gift. I was so excited. The spa called to confirm Friday afternoon while we were dining at the River House. He could not hear that well and confirmed the massage figuring we’ll deal with it when we get to the hotel. He had a looming zoom call for the next day. It became clear late Friday afternoon that we were going to be unable to make the appointment at 10:00am and after calling the spa, leaving messages Friday evening as well as speaking with concierge explaining our situation the spa could/would not reschedule for any time later Saturday or Sunday. $300.00 was charged to our credit card nor would they honor coupons that came with package. We paid full price for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Unless you have money to burn, there are other hotels with other spas. NEVER AGAIN.…
Horrible place. Has gone way down hill Dirty lobby dirty rest rooms Smells of URINE STAFF COULD CARE LESS DO YOURSELF A FAVOR DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY Spa closed to guests Pool dirty Hot tub falling apart Food cold and no one cares!!! They have an “oh well” Attitude!!!
I have read the other reviews and responses and would like to preface this by saying that I am not interested in hearing about how you have talked to the staff and can assure me this is an isolated incident, as by the multiple reviews it is clear that it is NOT being corrected. Your guests deserve compensation, not empty promises. I called the hotel when making my reservation to ask about the rooms, and the gentleman I spoke to was not helpful. He clearly had not seen the rooms and was guessing (incorrectly) with the answers. I asked if any of the rooms had deep soaking tubs, and was told "some have bathtubs and some don't". When I inquired about if they were deep soaking tubs, I was told "I mean they're big" (they weren't) and that he would put in a request for a room with one of the tubs, which I assume he did as I was indeed in a room with a bathtub, albeit a regular-sized tub, which is not what I was looking for. There is no spa availability reserved for overnight guests which was disappointing. When we got into the room I ordered room service, just a flatbread, and a few drinks. The order came while I was in the shower and my guest answered the door. When I got out of the shower I quickly realized that the wrong order had been delivered to us. We called the front desk who said she would take care of it, and then we received a call from room service. He first asked if we had eaten any of the food (odd) and then informed us that he was going to come to pick up that food and bring ours in a bit. This became very alarming...surely he wouldn't be delivering this food to the intended recipients after it had been in our room? But with the "did you eat any" question...we gathered that's exactly what was happening. I couldn't believe he took the wrong order away, and it made me so concerned that our food too had ended up in someone else's room. When he came to take away the wrong order, he said "your food will be up in ten minutes". Fine. 35 minutes pass and finally comes a knock at the door when the man said "well it was SUPPOSED to be ten minutes" with no further explanation. The food was cold, making me think it had been just sitting somewhere, and we were charged fully for our order, with no apology offered. Why quote a timeframe if you could not deliver within that? Under promise and over deliver is one of the first things I was taught in hospitality. The fan did not work in our bathroom, so after my shower, it was completely fogged up. There was no lighting around the makeup mirror. We were leaving for dinner while requesting an Uber, and saw that Uber requires masks to be worn. We stopped by the front desk and were happy to see a box of masks behind the desk. We asked what appeared to be the bell boy if we could have two. He gave us one and said it was the last one in the box but would get the front desk agent to get a new box. A few moments later the front desk agent came out and said "So our back office is under construction, but even if it weren't I wouldn't know where they keep the masks". That kind of felt like "I can't help you, but even if the circumstances were different I still wouldn't be able to help you." After dinner, we went into the pool/jacuzzi area, both indoors and outside. Neither of the hot tubs had strong jets, and most of the jets were not working in general. The outdoor hot tub is such a nice touch, but it was missing bricks and was not visually appealing, and again the jets did not work. Before going to bed I went to turn the lights off in the room, and one of the end lamps did not turn off. We ended up having to unscrew the bulb. We ordered breakfast by placing the menu on our door prior to 12am as requested. It arrived almost on time (1 minute early) and was cold. This property gets a 4 strictly because of the property itself, the grounds are beautiful, the room was decently sized, and the property has truly so much potential. With a few improvements in little things like fixing the hot tub, having masks available, training for staff, etc. this could become a Forbes rated property easily. After the amount of money I spent for a one-night stay, it disappoints me to have to write such a lackluster review. This was my birthday trip and it really wasn't special.…
The WORST stay and experience I have ever had at a hotel. The staff and management could care less about their guest’s safety and security including young children. We escalated to the highest level numerous times and still haven’t even received a call back. In addition the bar and restaurant are very much under staff and extremely unprofessional. The hotel is also run down. For the price per night I would say SAVE YOUR MONEY and SAVE YOURSELF from a dreadful experience.
