My family and I stayed at the Nordic Inn for a weekend and we fell in love with the unit, location, atmosphere, and the staff at the front desk. The unit we stayed in was immaculate, great views of Loon Mountain, full kitchen, fitness room, outdoor swimming pool, jacuzzi, you couldn't ask for more!!! We stayed during the summer months and the Nordic Inn was so close to many attractions. We spent the day at Clarks Trading Post, (approx 1 mile away), the next day we went to Whales Tale Water Park. We were so close to the water park we were able to come home for lunch, take a quick nap and go back later in the day. Loon Mountain is less than a mile away, Lost River and the Polar Caves are near by too. We plan on going back for the fall and again in the winter!!!!

We just came back from a ski vacation and stayed at the Noridc Inn.
What a great place to stay!! A Loon Mountain Shuttle Bus picked us up at our door and drove us to the mountain. This was a bonus for us because we came with a group of friends, and we were able to come and go from the mountain as we pleased!!! After spending the day skiing we enjoyed the jacuzzi's, and having a fireplace in the unit was nice too.
!! Can't wait to come back in the summer!!

OVERVIEW:
We stayed at the Nordic Inn Resort in October to view the Fall Foliage and had a great stay!

ABOUT THE NORDIC INN:
The Nordic Inn "Resort" isn't really a resort. It is actually a group of privately owned condominiums that are rented out through an onsite rental program. The Nordic Inn's location (one mile from Loon Mountain) makes it a popular place to stay. The condos are all in a long, 3 story building. The ground floor units are best because they have private entrances. (The second and third floor condos can only be accessed by going through the "Lobby" areas and taking an elevator.) There's an onsite swimming pool, game room, excersize room, laundry facility as well as and indoor and outdoor jacuzzis for guests. All of these amenities are shared.

THE GOOD:
The condo we stayed at (Unit #138) was very spacious, clean, and well maintained. It had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen, and a combined living/dining area. The amount of living space we got for the price was awesome! In addition, our unit was a ground floor, end unit with a private entrance and nice mountain views. The kitchen had everything we needed for our stay including pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. There were plenty of towels and fresh sheets provided for our stay. The condo also had free high speed internet access.

The people manning the resort's "Front Desk" were very helpful and courteous. Whenever we needed directions or suggestions, they were happy to oblige.

THE BAD:
Like I said at the beginning, the Nordic Inn Resort isn't really a resort. The name is misleading. While there is a front desk and some ammenities, there is no room service or maid service. There is also no onsite restaurant or activities. When you rent at the Nordic Inn, you're renting someone's privately owned condominium. Be warned that some are nicer than others!

IN SUMMARY:
As long as you don't rent at the Nordic Inn with the idea that it is a full-featured 5 star resort, I think you will be very happy staying there. The condos are large, clean, and well stocked. Try to get a ground floor unit if you can --they're more conenient. You can find some pictures of the unit we stayed at at: http://www.loonrentals.com

My family and I have stayed here for the past 5 years. The unit we rented is clean and well supplied. However, inside the resort is dirty,. Fans have about 6 inches of dust, sometimes they put them on sometimes not. It can get very stuffy inside. A few days it was sunny hot and humid however my grandchildren couldn't enjoy the outside pool, it was freezing. They claim they cannot heat it, too much money. Excuse me they charge enough rental fees from everyone. I doubt we will be returning to this place again.

Here we go again our second time staying, and although it had a pet friendly policy that guest seem to like, Nordic has gone a little overboard. The over abundance of yapping jumping, barking day and night has seemed to over run the place. The doggy smell coming from the hallways and rooms, is the worst it has ever been. They seem to forget guest with allergies. I found the middle of the complex overripe somewhere in the 200 block. The dogs are everywhere the halls, BBQ area, laundry area, and even the main office. So I guess if you want to stay at the Nordic don’t forget to bring your Zyrtec, clothespin (for your nose) and air plugs or just don’t stay at all.

Response from RentalMgr, Front Office Manager at The Nordic Inn a Condominium Resort
Responded Oct 29, 2018
Dear Guest, We are sorry to hear about your issues with dogs inside the Nordic Inn. Owner's are allowed to have pets, but not renters. And I am sure there are popular times when there are many owners here with their families and pets. The units in our onsite rental program are coded to ensure that guests who have allergies are not put into those units where the owners bring their pets. We hope that you will consider renting at the Nordic Inn again and allow our rental office to locate you in an area that would not be impacted by the pets.

Where shall I begin.... Our stay there was HOT (ac not turned on), 2 faucets were broken, carpet was stained, chairs were ripped, bedding was not provided and the blankets were spider infested. We talked with the staff about our concerns and they were not helpful or sympathetic. For the price we paid we did not expect a roach motel...

Response from RentalMgr, Manager at The Nordic Inn a Condominium Resort
Responded Jul 27, 2014
Dear Guest, I was very concerned to read about your disappointing stay at the Nordic Inn in Lincoln, New Hampshire. The Nordic Inn is comprised of 104 privately owned condominiums. While many owners have contracts for service thru the on-site rental office, some owners choose to rent privately on their own with no association to the rental office. I believe that you rented thru a private owner and not the on-site rental office. All our rental units are provided with clean linens in both bed and bathrooms and all our units are inspected before the guests arrive for cleanliness. We would invite you to try the Nordic Inn again by renting thru our on-site rental office at 603-745-2230. Thank you.

The Nordic Inn is conveniently located within walking distance of restaurants, shopping, movie theater and attractions, within an easy drive of franconia notch state park, and provides ample parking. The people working the front desk are very friendly and helpful and we were very happy with the customer service we received. The common areas are well maintained and the pool and fitness area were never crowded during our stay. The game room can get busy at times, but it can still accomodate multiple families at one time. The unit we stayed in (2 br/2ba) was spacious and well laid out, well equipped and fairly well maintained. If thinking of staying here, keep in mind that the units are privately owned, so some units are better than others. Although the staff is probably not allowed to recommend one unit over another, I did find that if you asked questions the right way, they answer them honestly and diplomatically so you can get enough information to help you choose which unit might best meet your needs (be sure to ask how old the unit is and if they have any record of it being refurbished). Although the mattress in the master bedroom of our unit is probably ready for replacing, there was definitely an indication that the owner was invested in making the unit inviting to guests - the unit was decorated in good taste, the kitchen was very well equipped, there were some games, puzzles, books, DVD player, and what looked like a game console available for guest use,. They also provided a book for comments, so if you did have any complaints or suggestions, you can pass them on to the owner. However, there are a couple of things about the Nordic Inn that seem to make it a better place to stay in the winter than the summer... the units do not have CAC, although there is a wall unit in the living room. Unfortunately, because of the layout of the unit, the wall air conditioner isn't enough to keep all the areas comfortable, and there is no cross ventilation to provide a cool breeze through open windows. At night we tried to blast the ac in the living room and keep the bedroom doors open, but that failed to cool off the bedrooms and only served to make the living area uncomfortably cold in the morning. The owner did equip the bedrooms with rotating fans, but fans don't really cool, they really just circulate a warm breeze that provides temporary relief when it hits you. We also had problems with our windows sticking shut, likely due to the expansion of the wood frames in the heat. The other issue regarding the lack of cross ventilation is that the cooking odors linger in the hallways, so if you are not used to living in an apartment building or are the type of person who is sensitive to smells, you might be more comfortable staying in a traditional hotel rather than a condominium. I wouldn't necessarily consider any of these issues deal breakers, but just things that are good to know if you are comparing hotels to stay at during the summer months. The other thing that, again, not a deal breaker but good to know. is that there isn't any overhead lighting in the living room or bedrooms, and the lamps do not really put off very much light. Again, these are things that may or may not be issues for your family. If we wanted to complain about something, it would be the housekeeping of the unit itself. Although the unit had a clean appearance, overall, when we checked in, we were definitely overpowered by the smell of what I am assuming was carpet freshner when we walked in, which is funny given that the room did not appear to have been adequately vacuumed in preparation for our arrival. There was a large cookie on the floor (which I would normally say could've been easily overlooked by the cleaning staff except that, ironically, it was located on the floor right next to the table where they put out an envelope for tips), there was what looked like a straw wrapper from a juice box under the dining room table, and when we removed the bed quilt, there was garbage exposed under the bed. I am sure that if we had called the front desk to complain, they would have sent someone to vacuum, but it was easier to just pick up the garbage ourselves. And about the tip envelope... given that there is no daily maid service, the unit wasn't adequately vacuumed before we checked in, and we were instructed to straighten up the unit before we left or face a $100 fine, we are not sure what we were being expected to tip for. We left one anyway, because we know that tips are usually factored in to the low wages of cleaning staff, and once you are paying so much money for a vacation what's a few extra dollars to help someone else out, but I still found it a little presumptuous. Just a few tips to help make your stay here a little more comfortable:
1. Bring your own soap. The bars that are provided are even smaller than sample sized bars of soap making them difficult to handle and lather with in the shower. The pump soaps on the bathroom sinks appeared watered down and just pump out foam bubbles. Unusable and ineffective. We walked to the dollar store down the street and bought our own supply.
2, Bring a small night lite or leave bathroom lights on when you go to sleep. The MBR furniture in our unit looked nice but was a bit of a hazard. The dark footboard of the bed extended a few inches beyond the edge of the mattress and was not visible in the dark. I have two very large painful bruises to prove it.
3. If you are a light sleeper or have young children who go to bed early, you may want to consider requesting a unit on the top floor. In the 2nd bedroom of our unit, you could hear everything from the unit above - footsteps, talking (even though they were speaking at a normal level, you could make out every word they said very clearly), and bed springs every time someone turned over or sat down on the bed.
The main advantage of the staying in the condos is that it comes with a kitchen. Although we don't consider cooking and washing dishes to be a vacation and therefore factor eating out into our budget when we travel. we found the restaurants in this area to be so mediocre that if we return to the area, we would definitely plan on cooking our meals at the hotel. I am usually reluctant to express an opinion about restaurants because it is such a subjective thing (what I consider rundown or lacking in atmosphere, someone else may consider quaint or having "rural charm.". Meals that others consider to "remind them of good old home cooking" my family considers greasy, unhealthy, and unappealing), but in the case of the restaurants in this area (lincoln & woodstock), I have to comment. In general, and there is an occasional exception, the restaurants are very overpriced, the food and service are hit or miss, and the interiors are physically in need of an overhaul. We even found bad ice cream (didn't even know there was such a thing, but again, it is the subjective opinion of my family). I can't remember the name of the place, but it is the homemade ice cream shop next to the tavern in woodstock. The soft ice cream is the consistency of whipped cream, so it really doesn't even taste like ice cream, and the hard ice cream I ordered had a somewhat bitter, rather than sweet, flavor to it ( I have ordered the same flavor many times at other ice cream shops, so I am comparing apples to apples). Being that the summer is considered "off season." many of the restaurants keep limited hours, with some offering only breakfast and lunch and closing for dinner. At the restaurants that do stay open for dinner, there is usually a wait of 40 minutes to an hour, so call to see if they will take a reservation or put your name on the list by phone and plan accordingly.
As for the local activities - We enjoyed the lost river and caves, but it is expensive, so if you are not going to take advantage of the opportunity to climb through the rock caves, you are probably better off enjoying a free walk or hike in the park. The flume is pretty, but again, costly for a family, and there are beautiful waterfalls in Franconia Notch State park that you can see for free. We enjoyed kayaking on the river, but if you are going to go, make sure you call in advance and ask what the water levels are - The conditions are very different from one day to the next and you could get stuck having to walk your kayak if the levels are too low. We had a good experience on the tree top canopy tour at Alpine adventures - a little scary at first, but definitely a good place to try out ziplining if you are a first timer - Alpine Adventures is well run operation, as opposed to amusement parks and ski lifts that give the impression of adding a zipline simply because it is a good money maker. The guides are patient and experienced and definitely pay attention to safety. We also rented bikes and did the self guided tour from Franconia Notch State park to Lincoln. We rented bikes from Loon Mountain, but I would suggest possibly looking into renting someplace else. We did not find their bikes to be well maintained (although we went in the afternoon and were stuck with what was left over) and they don't seem very adept at handling crowds. Another thing to keep in mind is that when we called for information, we were told that there was a 2:30 shuttle from Loon to the park that would fit into our schedule for that particular day, but when they also told us that it takes about two hours to complete the trip and bikes had to be back by 5:30pm, they neglected to mention that it is two hours traveling at a steady pace and without stops. Unfortunately, one of the main advantages of renting bicycles and following the trail is that the 14 mile trip passes by tourist spots that make good stop off points. 14 miles on a hot day also requires stopping for water and shade breaks, even though a good part of the trip (not all) is downhill. Which reminds me, it is imperative that you bring drinks with you, but only some of the bikes at Loon Mtn. have water bottle holders, so bring a back pack. Since the price of the bike rental is the same regardless of whether you rent it for the day or just a couple of hours, I would highly recommend getting a morning shuttle and leaving yourself time to enjoy all of the stops along a way. Bring a bike lock if you own one (not sure if they rent them) so that you can leave the bikes and explore some of the trails and sites. The basin is definitely worth a stop if you are short on time and have to pick and choose where to go. Also, the bicycle stock can run low on a busy day, so if you get a bad bike, the chances of you being able to exchange it for a different one is better in the morning than in the afternoon. Keep in mind, too, that If you go later in the day and the shuttle is running late, you could run out of time to make the stops you want. .

My family and I stayed at the Nordic Inn and the condo was quite nice. However, when I booked the condo, I requested a two bedroom (one room with King bed and the other room with 2 queens) however when we got there, there was only one full size bed in each room. I brought my confirmation down to the front desk and was told that the condo I had rented for the weekend was rented for the winter and because I only put down 2 adults and 1 child they gave me the other condo. My older daughter and her friend decided last minute to come up and I thought I had enough room and when I got there and found only 2 beds I was disappointed. I feel that for the money we spent to stay there, they should have called us and let us know that they changed us from our original condo. Be careful to say when you book exactly how many people are going or they will be sleeping on the floor as mine did!

We have stayed at the Nordic Inn Resort twice. The first time we stayed there was January 2003, and we just got home from another stay there the weekend of November 28, 2003. We are looking forward to returning there again in January. Very clean rooms, very comfortable setting, quiet, good views, great location ~ the perfect place to get away to rejuvinate! We highly recommend the Nordic Inn.

I rented from the "on-site rental office", they provided the best service, went way beyond what was expected to make our stay wonderful. They saved our vacation by giving us helpful ideas about what to see and where to dine, couldn't thank them enough! We talked with other folks who rented from private owners and their experiences were not very pleasurable. Guess we made the right decision :-]
