The Hancock is was our first stay at a B&B and they have set the bar high. The Inn is beautifully decorated with very comfortable rooms. The grounds were lovely with a large fish pond surrounded by flowers. The homemade breakfast is fit for a king and the pot roast is the best we've had. Marcia and Jarvis were great... More

Hancock is a pretty little town, however the traffic on Main Street never stopped. I would advise getting a room in the back of the Inn. Our hosts (and Potter) were pleasant and breakfast was the best meal of the day!

Thank you so much for your review. It's true: pretty town, busy road. It's not busy like suburban Boston busy (where we came from five years ago), but the extent of the bustle on Main Street does surprise some people when they get here. That will have something to do with the reason The Hancock Inn is the oldest inn... More

This is a local gem located in a quintessential New England village. The village itself has a market and cafe across the street. Next door to the Inn is the town library. A stroll past the library, historical society, town fountain, and up the hill will land you at the apple orchard. If you walk in the other direction out... More

What a perfect, narrated tour of the village of Hancock - in four sentences! You got it all. Thank you. Of course, describing the experience of this "amazing scene" may take longer and can be different for everyone in every season. I guess that's why some of us live in New England - the scene is always (always) changing. Thank... More

The Hancock Inn is the real thing- an inn that has been in operation for most of 250 years, accumulating layers of history over that time. At every turn you find something interesting to look at- the furniture, the artwork, the building itself. But it is not precious or a museum- the atmosphere is open and friendly. The breakfast was... We stopped at the Hancock Inn to break up our trip home from Maine. It was a last minute stop and Jarvis and Marcia made us welcome right from our call from the road to make the reservation for the room and the fabulous dinner. As a dog owner, it was a pleasure to visit with their golden, Potter, after... More

So glad you made a spontaneous stop at The Hancock Inn. Our location as a great midway point for travelers is one of the top reasons it's New Hampshire's oldest, continuously operating inn. The charm of the village and the abundant natural beauty of the Monadnock region, through careful preservation, are important contributors as well. Nooks, crannies and a proper... More

This was my second visit to the Hancock Inn. The rooms are beautiful, the breakfast is delicious and the staff could not be more friendly. They also seem to attract the most wonderful guests. It was a real pleasure to stay the weekend.

Dear Laura: Jarvis and I are so pleased that you enjoyed the inn and the good company of your fellow guests. One of the first surprises I had as an innkeeper was how the shared experience of a weekend here drew people together and how they would find common threads in their lives. Thank you for your review and for... More

Wonderfull old historical inn. Our room and service was great. Great tavern, and outside seating, and nice sitting room. They will serve you in the sitting rooms. The historic Hancock Inn is a gem of Hancock, NH, itself a quiet village lined with 18th c. homes. I love staying here - no matter what room, on what floor. Whether public rooms or private bedrooms, each cozy space feels like the 18th century without the fleas, outhouse, or grime. Traditional decor is cheerful and bright, and the restaurant... More

Thank you for your very nice review! The hotel was wonderful. We loved the attention to detail in the historic decor, food, and the way in which we were looked after including helping us to organise our activities. The owners helped ensure our stay was memorable. We would totally recommend the Hancock Inn.

We stopped here quite by accident on our way back to the condo we were staying in. The history was what drew us in not knowing it was the oldest inn in New Hampshire. We stopped by for just a glass of wine so we could see the restaurant. The bar area only has 5 seats but someone was just... More

Isn't blueberry season great?! We work with nearly 30 local growers, farmers and artisan producers to bring the very best flavors to the table here at The Hancock Inn. While it is a pricier route, we agree, it's worth the splurge and so worth supporting local farms and businesses. Thank you for stopping by and we hope you fall in... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Hancock Inn is a historic property in Hancock, New Hampshire. Built in 1789, it is New Hampshire's oldest continuously operating inn. The inn has 14 rooms for overnight accommodations that are exceptionally well-appointed with period antiques and inclusive of modern amenities, such as in-room chargers, waffle-weave spa robes, flat screen televisions with built-in DVD and wifi throughout the building. Many rooms have gas or electric fireplaces. There are numerous common areas around the inn for the enjoyment of our guests, upstairs and down. The two sitting rooms on the first floor, one with with a Rumford fireplace, are hallmarks of the inn's warmth and hospitality, separating it from the usual of being away, making it feel closer to home. Outside, the inn's 1.5 acres of gardens and field (which includes a professionally maintained croquet pitch in the summer) connect visitors to the Monandock region's preserved landscape and scenery. In the winter, join countless avid snowshoers and cross country skiers and, other times, experience the lakes, rivers and trails that crisscross our corner of the world. The inn's fine dining restaurant is open seven nights a week. The farm-to-table menu features New England favorites relying on locally raised beef, pork and poultry, plus cheese, fruits and vegetables from area growers, including vegetables from our own gardens. The inn's reknowned, cooked-to-order breakfast is served complimentary to house guests. Come to the Hancock Inn and learn why it has been characterized as "the near perfect expression of the New England village inn." ... more   less
