I stayed two nights at the lodge when I was visiting a friend in North Conway. The lodge was the perfect place to stay with both trails and the buzz of North Conway at your doorstep. Both require a little hike, either up or down the mountain, but the journey is very pleasant. Know that it's not a regular hotel and more of a chance to explore National Forest and engage with the Appalachian Mountain Club. Don't expect a TV or en suite bathrooms, but enjoy being closer to nature. The rooms are warm and cozy with a bright cabin feel. Plenty of hooks for gear! The breakfast buffet was super yummy and was good fuel for two days of hiking. Wi fi was great, shower hot, plenty of heat in the rooms and I even caught a short film on skiing the bowl in Tuckerman's ravine at the visitor's center. I highly recommend people coming on up ro get a taste of the mountains! As to be expected, there were basic COVID precautions, limiting access to shared spaces, but that didn't outweigh the ability to launch into some great winter fun right from the lodge. …
We stayed at the lodge one night before skiing. I was initially concerned because the lodge was hosting a high school group the same weekend; however, it wasn't loud in the lodge at all. Our double room was small, but comfortable. We both slept much better than we expected. I was particularly impressed by the kitchen staff. We called ahead to let the kitchen know that we were behind schedule, and would miss the buffet dinner hour. The chef kindly prepared two plates for us for our arrival. He did not make us feel guilty at all for taking his time, but instead was so hospitable in serving our meals directly to us. Thank you Chef Tim! Nice touches included complimentary hot chocolate & coffee, a cozy fireplace, and super friendly/helpful staff. My only negative is the booking/pricing - it is per person, not per room. It's confusing on the booking end, and we ended up paying more than we had expected simply because we had two people staying in the double room.…
I was kind of forced into this hotel, based on where my company needed to be that day and not knowing the surrounding areas. There were hotels fairly close to Mount Washington, that I would recommend. This was more expensive than those options. The advantage of it is that it next door to Mt. Washington, so it was easy to access the trails. I knew going in that the bathroom was dorm style, there was no television, wifi or air conditioning, which was fine. What I didn't like is that there were hikers that did not have reservations that somehow were able to use the showers. That should be checked closer. It is one thing to wait on access to the shower for paying customers. It is another for people that were camping and hiking. The food selections for breakfast and lunch were not good and seemed to have more vegetarian and vegan selections than I wanted.…
Joe Dodge Lodge is part of the Appalachian Mountain Club's lodgings. Located in Pinkham Notch, it is surrounded by great hiking and downhill or x country ski trails for all abilities. Because it is part of the AMC the staff is very helpful in providing information and suggestions depending on what type of outdoor experience you are seeking. The nightly cost covers a hearty breakfast and 4 course dinner either served buffet style (on the weekends) or family style during the week. The lodge has 2 floors and bunk rooms for 2 or 4 people, and several rooms with either a double or queen bed. The rooms are simply yet tastefully furnished with LL Bean style furnishings and comfortable beds. There is a shared mens and women's bathroom on each floor. There is a large room for groups to gather in the evening and a smaller library. In each of these rooms you can relax around a gas fireplace.…
Part of our stay for hiking in the Whites (also stayed at high mountain huts). Hikers everywhere. So cool to see people so in love with and promoting outdoor activities. The food was awesome (BBQ beef brisket for dinner!) very clean and comfy and quiet at night
