Visited Lonesome Lake Hut on a very busy day. There were lots of other hikers with families and dogs on the trail and all seemed to meet at the Hut at the same time. Given the numbers of hikers the Hut Crou were very helpful and accommodating. There was even soup still available. The day was clear and you could... More

This was our first stop of our family's hiking adventure through NH. A AMC guide told us to arrive early, claim a bunk, stash our packs and do some local hiking near this hut and this was excellent advice. We hiked to the summit of Mt Cannon which offers spectacular views of the Fraconia ridge, which would be our next hike... More

Lonesome Lake hut is just over a mile and a half hike from the parking lot near Lafayette campground, but it is well worth the effort. It's a perfect place for families to spend quality time together. The Appalachian Mountain Club, which runs the hut, provides the bunks (including mattress, pillow and three wool blankets) so hikers do not have... More

We hiked up Cascade Trail from the Basin Parking lot. This is a longer route to the hut but a beautiful hike along Cascade Brook. Our family of 3 spent the night in a 6 person bunk, they have several size huts. I was slightly concerned before we left because we'd be in a hut with people we don't know... More

Great for a basic family first night out. Wonderful staff and always great food. Lake also a delight. Suggested as perfect with very young kids. Only 3 miles from road and a campsite. The closest of all AMC hits to road. Always bring water and snacks. At hut ample purchases can be made of basics.

I wanted to introduce my kids to hiking and my son's personal goal is to do all 48 of the 4K footers in NH. The AMC is having a special where kids stay for free this summer at Lonesome Lake. This worked perfect as otherwise we would not have spent the money for the 4 of us to stay there.... More

We spent a night here in mid-January of 2014. There is a hut master and hot coffee and tea and some snacks (brownies and trail bars) available but you are expected to pack in your own food. The hike from the Lafayette camping ground parking lot is about an hour with a 20-30 lb pack (we were in reasonably good... More

We just returned from a two hut AMC adventure with our 11 year old granddaughter. Our first two nights were spent at Greenleaf Hut and while that was a good experience (although cold for June) our experience at Lonesome Lake was topnotch. The literature tells you that the 1.6 mile hike up from the Lafayette Campground is easy. Well, it... More

In the summer this is a full service hostel with breakfast and dinner provided as well as a bunk, blanket and pillow. In the fall, winter and spring it is self service where you have access to the large kitchen and you need to bring a warm sleeping bag. We did this in the fall and it is backpacking made... More

My boyfriend and I were invited by our friend who is a caretaker at the cabin to come for an early Thanksgiving dinner with a bunch of friends. The hike up wasn't too difficult, though it had it's steep spots and icy spots (bring some microspikes or hiking poles in the winter). We are fairly experienced hikers and it took... More
