Clean and simple room. Cable tv, hot water, comfy bed. A little less expensive than other options. All I needed after a day in the slopes. Nice staff. Close to the slopes at Cannon. Would stay at the Gale River Motel again for sure.

This motel was a great find. We loved staying here. True it is not a luxury spa, but we weren't looking for that. It was a great location to explore the White Mountains. This exploration was made easier by the innkeeper who knew the area well and gave us suggestions about hikes, places to see, how to get to places the best way - being from far away from this part of the country these suggestions made our trip. He even could tell me quickly where I could catch a sunset when the clouds cleared and I had only a short time to to drive to get to a place with a good view. We also loved being in Franconia far away from the outlet malls and traffic of the Conway area. The views were great and we loved being able to park right outside our door - no steps to climb. Event though the decor was a little outdated, the rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We don't really care that much about interior decorating. There wasn't a seating area but we weren't looking for a place where all you do is sit in your room. Since we were traveling in the fall we didn't use the pool but there was one there for summer visitors.

Thank you so much for taking the opportunity to share your experience at the GRM....am honored to have served you well. The pleasure for me as an innkeeper is sharing the secret corners of the region with my guests so that they discover the beauty and magic of the mountains and enjoy it as much as I have for nearly two decades of living in and loving the mountains of New Hampshire.

I love this place! I have stayed here twice this year and plan to return. Firstly it is pet friendly, which isn’t easy to find. There are toys for your pup and great walking area. The innkeeper is personable, accommodating and knowledgeable. He has thought of everything down to small details. It is clean and eco-friendly. The only downsides are dogs can’t sleep on the beds and hot tubs are on at limited times off season. Franconia is beautiful and this is a great spot. I highly recommend this.

Thank you very much for taking a few moments of your precious time to author a review for the GRM...and for understanding that we do have to keep our beds free from pet hair and dander for those guests that might follow a guest with a pet and not be so enamored by the prospect of sleeping in a bed that a dog had slept in the night before despite the fact that the linens are changed after each guest...being a sustainable lodging property, we try to run all of our amenities as energy-conscious and planet-friendly as we can...over the years we have found that most people are out and about exploring the mountains or (in the winter) skiing the slopes so we have our indoor hot tub timed to start heating up to be ready for the time when most people will be returning to the motel...the posted hours are 4PM to 10PM (10PM being when the office closes). During the summer, the outdoor hot tub is open from 9AM to 10PM as many guests use the pool and hot tub throughout the daytime hours. We look forward to welcoming you and your four-legged traveling companion for many more hiking adventures in the Notch....

Traveling from MN through the New England states leaf peeping! A gentleman working at Cannon Mountain suggested Gale River Motel, so we called & were lucky enough to get the last room! Beautiful location & view & Kevin, the owner was friendly, knowledgeable & had homemade cookies for us! Clean rooms, comfortable beds & a spacious room. Kevin had great suggestions for dinner too! We loved this little gem & will definitely return if we're in the area again!

One of the wonderful things about owning a motel is meeting people from all corners of our planet....it was a pleasure sharing my hospitality with you while you were visiting the White Mountains. Every motel, hotel, or inn in the world can provide a traveler four walls, a floor and a ceiling for a day or two....but at the GRM we try to add that extra "spice" that makes your visit memorable. Honored that we were able to serve you well with our homespun service, dinner recommendations, and of course, our (quickly becoming) world-famous chocolate chip cookies. Safe travels and may your journeys always bring you back to the one's you love.....

I had to make a last minute change in our travel plans for our time in Franconia and saw these good reviews for the Gale River Motel and so booked a one night stay. Thank goodness it was for only one night. All I can say is we had a completely opposite experience, though the owner/manager was extremely nice, this is an old motel, the the walls are very thin and our very talkative neighbors woke us up with their conversation. Also, and the worst thing is, my husband killed two bugs in his bed that we are almost certain were bedbugs. There were several spiders in the room/bathroom as well. No wonder at the last minute we were able to find this hotel had a vacancy in peak foliage season with no minimum stay. Lets just say we will never consider staying there again.

At any point during a guests stay, if a noisy neighbor is bothering a guest, a phone call to the front office will get an immediate response; finding out about a noisy guest a week after a guest's departure via a TripAdvisor review is just an opportunity to complain without making a simple effort to resolve the issue. Never have been bedbugs at the GRM in part because I inspect beds on a weekly basis knowing how to spot the tell-tale signs of the pests...so far have been lucky, but if they were to be detected, the room would be isolated and treated ASAP to keep the problem from spreading...again, no mention of this problem during the guest's stay...The GRM is located in a rural setting with entrances that open on to the out of doors....there are instances when local bugs and spiders gain access to a room because guests leave doors open, or bring little critters in with them from a day of hiking and activities in the "wilds of NH". The occurrence of a bug or spider in a room is not a cause for a one-star rating on a TripAdvisor review...again, an example of a complaint brought to the owners attention by a review one week later after a possible remedy is long past...sadly, spiders are a part of living in rural NH, we remove them when we see them, but there are instances when one might gain access to a room after we've cleaned it and greet a guest upon arrival...they can be easily removed with a piece of tissue and in no way reflect on the cleanliness of a room...
