Spent two nights here . It is in a fine location to explore a beautiful area. The inn is extremely well maintained with lovely grounds and a great restaurant. The host Doug was friendly , very helpful and willing to share useful information about the area. Both mornings we were served great breakfasts prepared by Doug. The first night we... More

My daughter and I stayed one night in early July. We did the Franconia State park flume hike and had lunch at Echo lake. What a beautiful day. We spent the evening with wonderful wine in the bar area then a delicious dinner in the dining room. Would definitely recommend this property to anybody visiting the area.

Better than description in Lonely Planet guide. Excellent room and restaurant. Personable innkeeper and assistant. Wonderful New England inn experience. Grounds were well-kept. Comfortable seating for restaurant both inside and outside on patio. Could not have asked for better experience.

- Doug was the most gracious and hospitable host, he was extremely accommodating, polite but also down to earth! - The library, tavern, and dining room are gorgeous. The atmosphere of the first floor alone is worth the stay. - Did I mention the complimentary brandy? It was deliciously tasteful and robust! - The style of the rooms and attention... More

The Horse and Hound Inn is a modern day trip into a comfortable past. The Horse and Hound Inn has been meticulously restored to it's opening-day substance and finish. The Inn, the rooms, and the grounds are as you hope for and expect. Unfortunately, we had only one night there and that was an evening the restaurant was closed, but... More

The grounds and inn itself were very well maintained. Our room was very cozy, and the bed was very comfortable. We only stayed for one night, as we were only in the area for a wedding, but we were very pleaded with the accommodations. I would definitely recommend The Horse and Hound Inn to family and friends!

The Inn was well off the main road and located in its own beautifully landscaped grounds, tended by its proprietor, Doug. We stayed in a corner room overlooking the grounds at the back of the Inn which I preferred to a room in the front overlooking the car park. The room was very comfortable and the only suggestion my wife... More

A first class restaurant and inn. Grounds were well manicured. Inside of restaurant/inn was spotless and exquisite. Meals were five star. I had filet mignon and it was first class. Wife had scallops and it was the equally brilliant. Friends hand haddock and scallops. We met the innkeeper as we were leaving and thanked him for our beautiful evening. We... More

During the ski season most of the restaurants in the greater Loon Ski area are 'family' affairs. Lots of pizza and fried food etc so it is so nice to find a quieter, refined country place for dinner. Located in a historic building and staffed with friendly people, this is a destination for dinner. We went there one night when... More

We have eaten dinner at the Inn's restaurant countless times, but this was our first time actually staying as a guest. My husband booked six rooms for us and his co-workers to enjoy a weekend away in the White Mts., and the Horse and Hound did not disappoint! This is not your run of the mill inn where Grandma's quilts... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
THE RETURN OF A CLASSIC. The Horse and Hound, located in the rugged White Mountains of New Hampshire, first opened in 1946 as a tasteful inn, tavern and restaurant. With three fireplaces and knotty pine paneling throughout, the inn welcomed everyone from Hollywood stars to local outdoor enthusiasts and quickly established a reputation for great food, elegant lodging and warm hospitality. Now celebrating its 65th anniversary, the Horse and Hound was closed from December 2010 through June 2011 while undergoing a comprehensive restoration to its classic lodge style. Now completed, the cheerful tavern, gracious dining room, elegant lobby, handsome library/lounge, and nine restful guest rooms once again invite you to unwind and relax after an active day in the Great Outdoors. Thank you for your interest and we look forward to welcoming you back. FOOD, SPORT & STEWARDSHIP OF THE GREAT OUTDOORS. ... more   less
