We stayed overnight to celebrate our wedding anniversary at the lovely place we held our rehearsal dinner 26 years ago.
The King Jacuzzi Suite room #239 in the back corner of the inn was spacious and comfortable, with a beautiful bathroom and tub. The mattress was wonderfully soft like a cloud. My only problem was with the large A/C unit in the room making noise turning on and off.
We had a delicious dinner at Epoch Gastropub which was conveniently right in the same building.
Continental breakfast in the morning was adequate.

We were taking a class at the Sig Sauer academy so this location was perfect - just 10 minutes away. What I really liked about our room (201) is that it was on a corner and had 2 windows facing different directions. The room size was good, we had a king bed and mattress was just ok. It was fairly firm (which we prefer) but by no means was as comfy as our sleep number. They brought us a small fridge which tucked in nicely into the furniture. Good selection of channels on TV and A/C unit had the right amount of "white noise". My favorite part...no dogs allowed.

My wife and I lived in Exeter NH for about 25 years and used to have dinner at the Exeter Inn almost weekly. Some years ago we moved to Florida and about that same time the Inn was sold, this was our first visit under the new ownership. Let me say the main level could not be nicer, the bar and dining room and all the other public rooms are stately and conservative. The food is wonderful and the location on Front St is really unmatched by any other hotel. The service an the personnel were most helpful, there was a mixup in our reservations, we had asked for a handicapped bathroom, the staff gladly moved us to a room with that option, but it was only available for part of our stay, and we had to move after two nights to a smaller room as the handicapped room had been reserved by someone more equal than we.
The rooms are old and are not nearly up to today's hotel standards. The building is perhaps 100 years old, the bathrooms are about 40 years old with occasional up dates. As the Brits say, suck it up, it has many other attributes. We met a few folks from "away" as they say in NH, people from Germany, and Hawaii during our stay there. They seemed to be perfectly happy and so we enjoyed it too, but maybe for the last time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with valuable feedback regarding your stay. While, I am thrilled to know you enjoyed many aspects of our Inn, including the staff, restaurant, and location, I was certainly disappointed to read you weren't fully satisfied with your visit. I sincerely wish we were able to accommodate you in our ADA compliant room for your entire visit but unfortunately it was pre-reserved for the last night of your stay. I truly hope you will stay with us again and should you choose to please call us directly so we can ensure you have the proper room for the entirety of your stay.

We've stayed here many times and love the vibe and location, but this time the television in our room gave us an error message for 5/6 of the channels. No one at the hotel could assist with the problem, we were not offered an alternate room, nor were we offered a discount for lack of service. I'd confirm with the hotel that everything was functioning correctly before booking here again.

I sincerely appreciate your thoughtful feedback. I certainly understand how frustrating it can be when technology doesn't cooperate. Unfortunately, we were sold out and didn't have another room to offer you. Additionally, the issue with the TV was with the cable box itself which we weren't able to resolve ourselves (Comcast had to come to the property to fix). Again, I apologize for any inconvenience the TV issues caused during your stay but I assure you it has been taken care of. I hope you will stay with us again soon!

Air conditioning thermostat wasn't working. Desk folks kindly brought box fan that helped. They offered to change rooms, but the fan was helping and I had three children with me and didn't want to change rooms at that time.
Worst problem was light in room that we didn't realize until turned lights off. Landscaping spotlight was pointed directly at window. No curtains, blackout or otherwise. Desk ladies came up and draped sheets over window blinds which helped some. Room should never have been rented.
Was given one price on check-in but the bill was $20 higher than I was told.
Doorknob for bathroom was broken.
Spoke with manager following week. Offered only 30% discount but my bill was only discounted 25%.
Attached picture was taken the following morning from the landscaping light. Light points directly at room's window.

A disastrous visit. There were noxious fumes coming out of the heater all night. . I had to open the window because of the horrifying smell. I couldn’t sleep. Later I found out that there had been a gas leak in the kitchen prior to this and I think it was happening again. The food was at best, very mediocre. The breakfast was a selection with only paper cups for tea, prepackaged muffins, The rolls were frozen inside, and the salad was wilted with incrementally dressing. At breakfast, only paper cups for tea available - prepackaged muffins, bowl of apples etc. The dinner staff was lovely. But the food was extremely salty. The fish tasted like it had been rinsed in bleach water. The rolls were frozen inside.
We were in a suite and the sofa bed was saggy and tired… had a big bar in the middle. The room decor was depressingly, beige, and dark.
The worst thing was the fumes coming out of the air system. I think this is what happened when an outside company owns it and doesn’t take a look at it day-to-day. they obviously know about the fumes because it had happened before but they didn’t take enough care to fix it. That was pretty terrifying. I would not ever stay here again.

Got there Sunday. Found that the restaurant (which is very good) and bar are closed on Sundays and Mondays. We stayed multiple days. Housekeeping did not do any maintenance in the room. They used to place cookies on your desk and candy on your pillow, every night. That is no longer done. It did add a nice touch. You will pay a premium price to stay at this hotel, but it is starting to get a bit run down. Front desk take a credit card upon arrival, for "incidentals". Well, when the receipt was slipped under the door on departure day, there was a $10 "facility fee" , per day, on the bill. Woman at front desk could not accurately describe exactly what a "facility fee" was. I think they are having trouble making a profit nowadays. Not my fault.

We used a gift card from New England Inns and Resorts. The room was very small-nothing like the rooms pictured on the website. We stayed a Sunday and Monday night when there were very few guests, so I know larger rooms were available. No one was in the room next door the first night, but the next night someone took the room. I could clearly hear laughter and talking through the thin wall at 11:30 pm.
The continental breakfast was very disappointing. Muffins and bagels which had previously been frozen, dry cereal, milk, coffee, apple juice and orange juice. It was presented without any care.
Beautiful grounds and places to relax outdoors.

We stayed here while visiting our son at Phillips Exeter. You can't beat the proximity. It was a gorgeous inn. The room was nicely furnished and the bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean. We appreciated being able to enjoy the bar at night and the continental breakfast was very nice. Fresh baked muffins, deviled egg dip and plenty of other options. Check in staff was friendly and we will be back again!

Some ‘Inns’ in small school towns can feel a bit dated but I found the Exeter Inn to have a healthy combination of old school charm and modern comforts. Room was a good size and had everything you need to relax or do a bit of work and the bar/restaurant area was a good place to grab a bite or a drink to end the day.
Staff was also incredibly nice and helpful/responsive to a few requests I had.

Thank you so much for you interest in staying with us. We are currently closed but will re-open summer 2021. We look forward to welcoming all of our guests back very soon! Happy Holidays!
There are rooms on the first floor and I did notice ramps.
Full breakfast was available, but not included in our rate, Fresh cookies were usually available at the front desk.
I guess I might call it a boutique hotel
