We love The Exeter Inn. The rooms and the beds are very comfortable. More importantly, the staff is incredible. From the moment we arrived and throughout our stay, the staff was incredibly courteous and helpful. We can’t wait to visit again during the fall season!

We had a wonderful stay over Easter weekend. The suite was very clean and comfortable. We had a problem with the coffee maker and the manager of housekeeping came in and showed us how to use the machine. The staff is amazing and so helpful. You will not be disappointed!

We are repeat guests of the Exeter Inn and have never been disappointed. The rooms have a quaint feel with fixtures of an era past and the beds are comfortable. All of the staff is no nice and helpful, too. There were even delicious cookies when we arrived. We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and brunch at the on-site restaurant as well and couldn't have wished for a more perfect weekend get-away.

A little slice of the authentic Exeter experience. The Inn is a landmark in town. Rooms are not especially big but there's lots of charm, all the essentials and the most comfortable bed in town. I want one of those! The staff is always excellent - from the front desk to the bar and restaurant.

Room Tip: If you anticipate hosting friends in your room, get a suite. The extra space is really nice.

A disastrous visit. There were noxious fumes coming out of the heater all night. . I had to open the window because of the horrifying smell. I couldn’t sleep. Later I found out that there had been a gas leak in the kitchen prior to this and I think it was happening again. The food was at best, very mediocre. The breakfast was a selection with only paper cups for tea, prepackaged muffins, The rolls were frozen inside, and the salad was wilted with incrementally dressing. At breakfast, only paper cups for tea available - prepackaged muffins, bowl of apples etc. The dinner staff was lovely. But the food was extremely salty. The fish tasted like it had been rinsed in bleach water. The rolls were frozen inside. We were in a suite and the sofa bed was saggy and tired… had a big bar in the middle. The room decor was depressingly, beige, and dark. The worst thing was the fumes coming out of the air system. I think this is what happened when an outside company owns it and doesn’t take a look at it day-to-day. they obviously know about the fumes because it had happened before but they didn’t take enough care to fix it. That was pretty terrifying. I would not ever stay here again.

Staff very accommodating and pleasant. My room was small and immaculate. Was raining so was not able to see the grounds, but the outdoor space looked great! Comfy beds! The restaurant was really good as well.

The lobby is great, the exterior is quaint, the staff is awesome, and the rooms border on terrible. The beds are soft and likely very old, the bathrooms are in poor condition, and the rooms are dreary. The Inn certainly does not measure up with the historic town and preparatory school with which it shares a name.

A marvelous location in the gorgeous town of Exeter! The room was a tad small for two adults, but the ambiance and the staff made up for the room size. Additionally the Exeter bar area and grounds are amazing.

Very nice little hotel. I had to email notifying of a later than expected arrival, and was reminded the restaurant closed at 9:00, so might want to grab a bite to eat on the way in, and told a later check in was no problem at all. We had a standard room, paid an extra bit to get an upper floor (there are only 3 floors, I was on the second floor). Check in was great, they give you a little card that mentions their continental breakfast (didn't know about that), and every afternoon at 4:00 they put out cookies in their little lobby. Room was a bit strange, I am not sure what the previous use of the building was, but our room door was through a little outside doorway with another room door. I am guessing if you wanted connecting rooms, they would have given you a key to the outside door, and the inside doors could stay open. There was nobody in the room next to us, or they were super quiet, we never heard that door open. Based on the door arrangement, I don't think a wheel chair or walker would have been usable, older doors are just narrow, and a strange arrangement of doors. There was an elevator, and guessing that some of the rooms might be of a design that could fit a walker or wheel chair better. Our room was a nice corner room on the front of the building, three windows, two in bedroom and one in bathroom. I imagine the back would have been quieter. The road in front of the hotel is pretty busy, and our window blinds did not completely close so cars woke us up, and then the sun coming in made the room quite bright. Rooms did have a little coffee maker, but no fridge. We travel with a little plug in cooler, which is on the louder side, so did have some "white noise" to cover up some of the noise from cars and trucks. A blind fold and ear plugs might be helpful for a light sleeper. Room was kind of a "updated antique," or that was how I would describe it. We had a queen bed, chair and a half (not quite a loveseat, but bigger than a normal chair), a desk with chair, dresser, two night stands with lamps, and a queen bed. That took up most of the floor space, it was a small room, but didn't feel crowded (a larger bed probably would not have fit in there). There was a TV on top of the dresser. The bathroom had white tile with dark grout, making it look older, a bowl sink, and a walk in shower. I suggest you walk into the shower first and look at the controls before reaching through the glass to figure it out. Two knobs, one on and off, the other temp control. And it had the largest closet I have ever seen in a hotel. As with many hotels, there is no daily "maid service" but if you needed anything we were told you could request it at the main desk. Only two nights, we didn't need anything. The hotel was quite cute, I could see it would be great for something like a small wedding (or maybe a smaller wedding reception). There is a restaurant in the hotel, but with so many good restaurants in Exeter, we choose to eat out. There were a few meeting rooms, a larger indoor room (for a small wedding or rehearsal dinner would be perfect), or on the back lawn would be perfect. They had some corn hole boards, ladder game, a few fire pits, little sitting areas, it was spitting rain so we did walk around the hotel, but didn't spend much time outside. Inside, in the basement we did see a small work out room. I guess this is owned/ operated by a management company, had a sign outside saying the name of the management company, but felt like an old fashioned little private hotel. Nice, quiet, no complaints at all, would gladly stay there again.

Did not live up to expectations and could have been so much better. Arrived to find the bathroom had not been cleaned. Got a room change and nether room looked like the photos - small, dark, basic furnishings. Breakfast was continental and very limited choice - all was in disposable packaging and self-service - not what you expect from this standard of hotel. Ate in the restaurant one night, but also very disappointing in terms of food quality and service.
