Lovely, comfortable room but on a Sunday to Tuesday, the pub is not open so it was not easy to eat on property. Suggest glassware, plates, and silverware on those days so guests can enjoy the patio and eat outside. We would have loved a handout on the history of the Inn. Spooky but interesting nearby "family" cemetery. Picnic tables available on the Mill Pond/Oyster River after a short walk downhill.
My sisters and I stayed here while visiting our brother in Lee, NH. We were fascinated by the history behind the inn, and we felt the benign presence of their resident ghost, Hannah. The staff could not be friendlier, and it is obvious they love their jobs and their guests. Hannah (not related to the ghost…or is she?) willingly dropped everything to take us on a tour of the original building. Our room, 25, was on the third floor of the carriage house. It was perfect for 3-very roomy with 2 Queen-sized beds and 2 day beds. We had 2 dinners in the Inn. We ate in the original kitchen, and both nights Romayne served us. She advised we come early on Thursday for the prime rib special, as it runs out. And we got the last 3 servings. All meals were generously portioned. Because of COVID housekeeping delivered sheets, towels, and toiletries outside our door as well as an adequate continental breakfast by 8. Durham and New Market are charming towns. A lovely spot for R&R or a perfect place for a wedding.…
No heat in the bathroom. If this is a delux room then I would be afraid to see a standard one. Bathroom is hideous and looks like I am staying at a camp ground. I can see why the reviews are so low. The whole room looks like a cheap camp site. What a waste of money especially after staying at a real Inn in Maine and NH.
I came to Three Chimneys for a few days of R&R. I really enjoyed it! The front desk was friendly and responsive, my room was clean and comfortable, not to mention rustic and spacious. Although the restaurant was not open for in-person dining during my stay, I was able to order dinner (roast pork and brie melt with apple compote in a great sourdough bread sandwich, and the crispiest, tastiest fries ever) to my room. Due to the pandemic, my continental breakfast consisting of yogurt, not-from-concentrate OJ, a hard boiled egg, croissant, a couple slices of cheddar cheese, granola, coffee, tea, and condiments) was delivered to my door each morning along with fresh towels, and soaps. I can see the river from my room in the Carriage House, and there are beautiful blue spruce trees outside my window. The room is very clean. The only drawback - and it is significant - is that the wifi is extraordinarily slow. I don't know if it's where the room is located in the building or if something is interfering with it. I even repeatedly unplugged the router to reset it but that didn't really help. I'm sure it is more the room than anything else. I would definitely come back!…
Dog travelers know hotel rooms for dogs won’t be stellar - but we expect clean. Spider webs above the bed & in the bathroom skylight. Bathroom door doesn’t engage into strike plate so couldn’t shut. Shower smelled horrific, we did not use it (shower curtain likely culprit). Shower floor stained, ceiling cracked, frame chipped, bed posts dog chewed. Outlet next to entry door not covering the wall. Gas fireplace but no controls - and told we couldn't use the heat (it was chilly even with the a/c off). People upstairs heavily walked endlessly. So...how to weigh this out...GREAT staff...unclean room. Maybe they don't know it's unclean. Which room? Walk into a dog-friendly room and look around and you will know - unless they're all like this... Something dirty can be cleaned - rundown furniture and nicked walls and spaces between an outlet cover and the wall can be repaired - but someone can't learn to be genuinely people-friendly and they have that down pat. 'Average' rating is for the room - but I do give them 5 stars for incredible employees. Unfortunately, our appreciating that a staff is as excellent as they are reputed to be does not take the lead when a room is so unclean, you have to wait until you check into a different hotel the next day to shower.…
