All I can say is wow. We chose the Inn and specifically our cottage based on the nice picture. What we got was something out of Deliverance. It was dark when we arrived, so we missed the cabin on the first pass and had to drive past all the other cabins and around again. No big deal except for the other guests, staring us down like we were there to steal their heroine. Once we found our room, we found a bed. In fact it's easier to say what we didn't find: bedside tables, working outlets, soap, a cable connecting the TV to the modem, a functioning smoke alarm, a chair, any sort of cup... (*correction, we did find the soap, it was in the sink drain) We called "management" to get a cable for the tv and despite a promise to send the housekeeper over, we heard nothing. What we did hear was the family next to us, teaching their toddler daughter their favorite language. Parent: Holy sh*t, Lacey Lacey, in 3 year old toddler voice: Holy sh*t! The only reprieve was when they left for dinner around 8pm (umm, toddler?), but then their dog had to express its sadness about being left alone by crying like it just lost its first born pup. We spent the evening playing on our phones and drinking wine from the bottle until they arrived back around midnight, enjoying themselves and their pride in Lacey enough to prompt us to once again call "management" to assist in getting them to quiet down. I think I heard Lacey tell us to F off through the wall. Because we also had no coffee maker, and again, no cups to drink it in anyway, we headed up to the Circle K the next morning for some breakfast and a $5 bar of soap. That was likely the best part of the stay, they had great coffee! But it was then we noticed the For Sale sign, so it started making sense. Suck the money from as many unknowing guests as possible before you're foreclosed on.... or rent to long term heroine users and families with poor values. Do not recommend.

An absolute dump! Nothing like the advertisement. There were junk cars, old broken furniture and trash strewn about the overgrown property. The room was supposed to be a two bedroom but was a bed and a cot of some sort jammed into a tiny, filthy room. We immediately left. I called the owner and he tried to say I went to the wrong room - no manager or owner on site - we were told the door would be unlocked. I told him they couldn't pay me to stay there. Still trying to get a refund. Both the "Inn" and Booking.com are unresponsive.

Do not even bother with this place! The photos are a total catfish and so is the booking process! We booked a 2 bedroom “cottage” for 3 nights, it was supposed to be a self check-in due to Covid and they had suspended their breakfast services. When we pulled in it looked like something from a horror movie, run down and frankly scary looking. I debated turning around right there and losing the money they had already taken from my account before check in. When we went to go into the cottage, which is a very generous term, there was someone already in there. The office was closed with a hand written sign on the door with a phone number if you needed assistance. No one answered and the voicemail was full. I then found another number for the property and again received no answer. I left a message and decided I was quickly going to book another property. We were almost to the new location when the owner called. He had a nasty attitude and tried telling me I went to the wrong room. When I told him we were definitely NOT staying there I was informed I needed to go through the travel app I used for a refund. Luckily I did get my refund and we ended up having a great vacation somewhere else. Save yourself the time and disgust and don’t even think about this place. There was a for sale sign on the property and hopefully someone buys it and renovates it!

Any good review must be fake or posted by a family member who feels bad for them. Today, when my fiancé was trying to get a refund from the owner and suggested he should hire new cleaning staff he told her she doesn't get to tell him how to run his business. Actually, considering you wasted my family's time driving out there after a busy day with the kids only to walk into a room so disgusting it resulted in us having to find a different place to stay last minute at 9pm, I'd suggest you lose that toxic frame of mind. If I ran my business with the same care, I wouldn't have a business anymore. We checked in late around 9pm. I went in the room and thought I was in a crack house. Dirty towels stuffed in a broken fridge, black, moldy looking chunk of ice in the freezer, the bathroom floor was covered in dirt and mouse turds. The shower curtain was disgusting. Seriously how much is a shower curtain, $6? How about replacing it more than once every 20 years. The bunk beds had dirty sheets and the trundle bed didn't even have any sheets. We found old candy wrappers, empty Pringle cans and other assorted trash on the bunk beds. Needless to say, I wasn't putting my kids anywhere near those beds. I counted 5 spiders on the wall above the main bed. The whole wall above the bed was covered in cobwebs - that'll help you sleep nice and sound. I went out and called the number written on a white board at the main house because I was in shock that someone would leave a room like this with someone checking in and the lady I finally got in touch with had nothing but excuses. I explained that whether the unit has 2 beds or 20 beds, or anywhere in between, it's standard practice to use mattress protectors and to strip each bed and replace the bedding before the next check in. She let me know that she knows this because she used to own a cleaning company. Couldn't help but laugh on that one. They apparently didn't clean the whole room because only two people stayed the previous night... So they basically made the one main bed real quick, probably with the same sheets, and called it good. I was not about to put my family in this place over night so we packed back up and drove about 40 minutes down the road to a Comfort Inn where they had a clean room, clean bathroom, clean beds, no spiders, and a working fridge. Today, I'm fighting to get a refund after they declined to with Expedia. They finally agreed to issue a refund check because they apparently don't know how to do a refund with Expedia. Judging by how they apparently can't afford to hire anyone with a brain to prep the units, or let alone afford clean sheets, towels, shower curtains or a working mini fridge, I'm hoping it doesn't bounce...

The only reason I booked this place was for the heated pool for my 5 year old. Get here and it’s closed and no plans this summer to reopen. I wish I had read the their website, but I booked from booking.com Also, they are not serving breakfast. And it literally says bed and breakfast on the sign.

The pool doesn't exist (closed for a few years), and breakfast is not available ("due to covid" for the last couple years). They will not know who you are or what your reservation is... bring your room number... the computer system doesn't work. The playground is gonna fall over. Your room will not be ready. The whole place is falling apart due to neglect. It's a piece of crap. Avoid it.

I understand certain restrictions due to covid/ many places are short staffed and I was looking for a place to stay last minute on my way back to Michigan from Maine. The owner was very nice on the phone and even waived the pet fee. The cottage was unlocked and key exactly where it was supposed to be and the air conditioning was running. However once I arrived I found out there was no breakfast being served, Then after hunting down something to eat nearby I came back to my room to get some rest before continuing my trip home… The first picture are of the bed sheets and the second picture is of a cut straw that my dog dropped at my feet..needless to say I slept terrible and there isn’t even coffee available so once I get dressed and reload my luggage and dog into the car I’ll have to find a place that serves coffee at 6 am- yikes!

As the current generation says, part of the terrible experience was "my bad". You see, I learned from an innkeeper a little while ago that they keep more revenue when guests register and pay directly on their websites, rather than use one of the large booking sites. So, I found the Bartlett Inn on one of those websites, saw that it had decent average review scores, then went to the Inn's website and booked directly. Bad move, because I did not delve into the ratings. Take a look here at Tripadvisor's rating for this place--it's (currently) 3.3, not great, but not terrible either. Now actually read the reviews in order, from most recent to earlier ones. It's clear that the place has been crumbling for years. And alas, we had pretty much all of the bad experiences of the negative reviews: 1) the cottage was not ready when we arrived after the 4:00 check-in time. 2) It was dirty when we arrived, despite the housekeepers being there "cleaning" it when we got there. It was poorly swept, clearly not mopped, and there was a sandy feel to the all the floors (check), 3) no dish soap, dish towels, or paper towels, despite the fact that we had rented a cottage room with an allegedly full kitchenette (check), 4) the only sources of heat were electric space heaters, which barely kept the place livable, as the floors were especially drafty (check), 5) no soap in the bathroom (check); 6) kitchenette was VERY poorly equipped with one small saucepan, and one large skillet (check); 7) several of the electrical outlets did not work, including the one for the table lamp next to the bed (check), 8, there were no hangers or coat hooks in the entire place, despite being advertised as "skier friendly". All bad, bad, bad. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable. Getting out of bed, however, was like stepping into the tundra. When I asked the caretakers (via text, they don't answer their phones) to get some soaps and paper towels, her first response was "We don't provide those" and directed me to a nearby store. That was a stunning response, because I don't recall ever staying at a VRBO or inn that had a kitchen/kitchenette that did not provide these basics. She did, however, eventually deliver on those requests, but it was at around 9:00 pm of the SECOND NIGHT OF A TWO NIGHT STAY! (Yes, I'm shouting). Several final points: 1) I am an experienced traveller--been to 34 countries, 45 or so US states, and 8 Canadian provinces and territories. I've stayed probably several hundred nights in hotels, inns, B&B's and VRBO properties for work and leisure travel. The Bartlett Inn was one of the worst experiences I've had. 2) I have some sympathy for the caretakers--they're clearly understaffed and overworked, but, 3) having paid just about $500 for the lousy two nights, I think the owners are morally obliged to close the dump. It certainly was much worse than "not worth the money". It was a total rip-off. P.S. I would strongly advise not to stay there, if you have not already arrived at that conclusion.

Don’t Book Here. Not really one for writing a negative review, but since I’ve noticed that they do not care enough about their business or reputation to acknowledge or respond to anyone’s reviews, here you go. The fact that this property knew in advance that I run a hotel myself and would be returning to my hometown for a celebration of life, I was hoping for at least just a little bit of professional courtesy. What I did received was verry disturbing to me. I was born and raised in Bartlett, and we were there for the weekend to attend the Celebration of Life for my aunt, my mom’s twin sister who were both also born and raised there. We had booked the Saco Cottage for 2 nights Fri/Sat with a pet and received a confirmation E-mail explaining the Covid protocols for check in. They explained self-check in, and no breakfast and that was fine. When we arrived, I found the Saco Cottage, it was dark due to a burned-out light bulb, still okay, understandable and tolerable. The driveway and walkway into the cottage weren’t shoveled or cleared of snow or ice as a couple of inches of snow had fallen the day before. It was also noticed that there were no other tire tracks or footprints leading into the Saco cabin. Upon entering I saw a bag on the table and thought oh how nice a little gift bag. My mistake. The inside of the cottage was beyond dirty. What I thought was a gift bag turned out to be a bag of trash left on the table! The bed was horrific with at least people/dog hair, mouse droppings and dirt on the sheets. Obviously, the bedding had not been changed recently. In the bathroom there were soiled towels on the floor, bathroom trash can was full, there were dead bugs in the shower and used bar soaps on the sink. The toilet bowl was black, and you are definitely on your own for toilet paper. Bartlett Inn could not have paid me $377.33 to stay for 2 nights, all of which was charged to my card prior to check-in. Yet they expected that I would pay that to stay for 2 nights. After I surveyed the accommodations, I tried to call the front desk only to be dumped into a voicemail box. I explained in my message that I would not be staying at the property, that it was disgusting, beyond dirty and I was very disappointed. I then sent an email stating that I would not be staying. I received a voicemail back the next morning saying that they were sorry for my disappointment in the accommodations and that they would inquire with housekeeping. Not certain what they did or did not understand about the fact that "I would not be staying there". Because I was so annoyed at the time, I choose not to return his call. As an Innkeeper for 18 years, I wanted to give this property the benefit of the doubt even after seeing all the poor reviews. All of us working in the industry have had to make sacrifices and changes and learn through Covid. If you don’t have staffing to clean the rooms, you don’t sell the rooms. Period. The ownership of this property is a disgrace to the Hospitality/Lodging Industry and the town of Bartlett. There are simply “Bad Operators” that should not be in business.

I was very upset when I pulled the covers down and there was sand on the bedsheets! We checked the second bed and there was sand and crumbs. Apparently the beds had not been changed! That grossed me right out! I could live with the rest of it but not that! Very disappointing!
