Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
The location is near the River Walk and is within walking distance of many resorts and five downtown casinos. The room was spacious for a hotel room. We didn't use any of the amenities, so I can't comment on those. The staff was very helpful and responsive. There is no meal service at the hotel on a daily basis, so you will have to go out in the mornings and evenings. There is a convenience store on the corner so you can buy items to store in the refrigerator. There is also a movie theater nearby and several restaurants and pubs.

The Plaza is in a perfect location for the traveler who wants something other than the casino experience. The hotel is quiet, just across the street from the Truckee River where there is a walking trail. I have stayed at this hotel 3 times, 2 in the winter and once in the spring. I loved the location because there is so much in walking distance.
The staff is very accommodating. Be sure to ask for the "dish pack" if you are planning on snacks and coffee in your room, The upgraded room came with a table and 4 chairs, small frig and microwave. Great for warming up muffins or leftovers ;P.

The hotel was nice and clean. The staff was friendly. They didn’t provide room service for everyday without the extra charge and parking was an additional charge because they valet it in and out for you each time. I personally would like free access to get my vehicle whenever I like but they were usually timely in retrieving the car. Other than that the service was good. We had one person that was playing loud music next to us and they were fast about addressing the complaint. I did like that they had games available for guests to play and they have a pool table as well.

The pride in ownership is apparent throughout. This is a timeshare/hotel which was built in the 70s however is in excellent condition for an asset of that age. It’s tastefully decorated with antiques and memorabilia which speak of the days of old. The lobby is circa 1920s. The attention to detail shows a thoughtful and caring owner. Doors are stained glass. Renovations left some of the original 70s character, like the inlay tile floors on floor 7. Each floor has a different theme. We stayed on the 12th floor which was the Tahoe themed floor. Breakfast was available for $8/person which is a good value for the area. The indoor pool is sparkling clean with a nice surround including a large screen tv and bar. Front desk and valet staff are friendly and informative. Parking is free but valet only which was nice because it was below freezing and we got to wait inside while someone pulled the car around for us. Rooms are big with super comfy beds but do still have popcorn ceilings. If that’s what deters you from a hotel, this is not your place. If you can overlook it, this place is a gem. Great views of “The Row” and the riverfront. No train noise like some other nearby establishments. Walkable to the Row (group of casinos at the top of Virginia St). A great value for the money. This is probably our new “go-to” for hotels in Reno.

Lobby has outdated feel but heated pool and fitness room was nice for my teen kids. 7th floor little confusing with so many mirrors, two elevators, many doors, pool, dining room, pool room, fitness room and turns everywhere.Homeless people frequent nearby park by river or outside hotel but they don't bother. There is only valet parking, no self-parking so tipping valet was getting costly. There is some metered parking on road. Two of valet were so friendly and very helpful. Would be nice if there was a power strip bedside for phones instead of plugging into the alarm clock. Room cleaning personal are very loud (constant laughing, socializing) in hallway as they go from room to room. After 6 days, it get a bit annoying.

Hotel was nice, but the lack of housekeeping was a little disappointing. We were here for 4 days/3nights and not once had our room cleaned, towels / toiletries replaced garbage taken out, nothing. A warning online, prior to booking would have been appreciated. I was told at check in that there would be no housekeeper and I needed to go downstairs when I needed something. They didn’t even offer to at least bring what we needed. We had some AC problems. Also, being charged for a 2nd vehicle was irritating as it wasn’t stated anywhere that we were only allowed 1 vehicle between the 4 people staying in the room. I think we paid too much for what we got. If you aren’t providing housekeeping, you should lower your rates.

Newly engaged, we jumped from Northstar to Reno. When Hotels.com didn’t fully process our reservation, the front desk attendant still honored the King suite price. We stayed in room 1502. It had a wonderful view, comfortable bed, and the amenities on the seventh floor were amazing for the price: Indoor heated pool, full breakfast made-to-order for only $8 a person, and right on the river. It was a two-block walk to fun gambling and events. We will be back!

Outdated resort but better amenities, a bit more space in the rooms & authentic Victorian feel. Customer service could improve, always asked if I was there for a time share, I am an owner but because I wasn't using points or weeks stays, automatically I was denied above & beyond service. Beds were comfy, rooms were decent & to mention, guests may purchase breakfast vouchers for $8 plus tax. each, was worth it being it was a buffet and omelet station. (Front desk Vicki gave by far the worst customer service, beware)

Been coming to the Plaza Resort for the past 12 years and always enjoy our stay. It has a nice decor and great proximity to the river, restaurants and casinos. The pool area is especially nice and the rooms are very large with floor to ceiling windows looking out over the city of Reno. Hint: request the City View (East facing) side, up high for the best views.
That said, each time we come here the resort feels as if it is in a steady state of decline. The jacuzzi was removed a few years ago and never replaced. The gym room is very small and the equipment is literally falling apart. Management should either replace the aging equipment or do away with the gym altogether. Light fixtures over the pool are falling apart - can't imagine it would cost "that much" to replace them. Cabinets in the room are loose and could easily be fixed if management would take the time to address the issue. Also, the blanket on our bed had a huge hole in it. With all of this is mind, I'm not sure how this resort still has a gold crown rating.
So, would we stay there again. Yes, we would. It's a great value and we love visiting Reno so are willing to put up with some of the cons. Hopefully, management will start addressing some of the "dated" issues mentioned in my review. Otherwise, the Plaza Resort will continue to decline to the point where we may need to consider a different place to stay when visiting Reno in the future.

We booked two rooms for a week through RCI on checking the ranking given by RCI. Property has been rated Gold Crown for more than a decade. However our experience was mixed.
Pros
Spacious studio rooms with full furnishing. Furnishing is dated but well maintained.
Location is big positive as nearby riverside is hub of all activities.
Restaurants serving all type of cuisines are within walking distance.
Parking is within the building.
Activity center is well maintained.
Cons..
No service for the entire period of seven days. No staff is seen with masks. Covid seems to be more of an excuse.
Front office staff although courteous and helpful has been instructed to deny basic services to timeshare clients. We could see other guests also pleading to lend vacuum cleaner for self cleaning the rooms. We went through the same stress. Only saving grace was offer from front office to change the rooms.
Final recommendation... it is okay to book this place for couple of days. Avoid if you are planning long stay.

We were just there a few weeks ago. We were pleased with the room, but we did not have a Jacuzzi. There was a regular tub/shower. Maybe other rooms have Jacuzzis. Try calling the hotel directly. They would know the answer to both of your questions.
Dear Jgray0615,
All of our current rooms do have a microwave and a small refrigerator. We look forward to serving you on your next visit. Thank you!
Thank you for your inquiry. We regularly review our services and policies, and at this time, we are not allowing pets. We know that pets are part of the family and are being accepted at more and more properties for a nightly fee. For now and into the foreseeable future, though, we will maintain our policy that we do not allow pets.
