Too cute. If you've ever wondered what it was like to stay in a hotel in the early 1900s, here you go. Even more impressive is, while it still has that old feel, they done as good of a job as you can to make sure it doesn't feel old. Fun little casino, great limits and room rates. If you... More

I checked in July 14,2016 and the lobby was wonderful but as I walked through the different areas I could see room for much improvement. First off the carpet is very worn and dingy and replacement would only be a plus. I just don't think shampoo would help! After getting to the room the key wouldn't unlock the door but... More

Was told by a local to check out the Golden Nugget and was glad we did until we ran into the RUDEST casino cocktail waitress we have ever met. Stay away from the older blond waitress with the short hair and snarly attitude. She refused twice to serve us SOFT DRINKS while we were gambling. She claimed we weren't gambling,... More

In the middle of Fremont street on the open mall is the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino. The rooms look clean from the pictures on the internet. We did not stay there, but we did walk through the casino, typical of an older hotel, and the pool looks wonderful. Very inviting. We did eat at the restaurant. Not an upscale... More

I stayed at Golden Nugget for 4 nights this month, and LOVED it!!! I did not give it a 5 star only because of the pool. We stayed in the Rush tower, and it was beautiful and roomy! Very spacious. I will tell you however, ask for it to be away from Freemont St, because it is LOUD. Most of... More

I wanted to throw the dice at the oldest casino in Vegas and have one of the famous shrimp cocktails. They're not .99 cents any more but they're very good and pretty cheap. Food was home style and the restaurant was nicely appointed in a 60's look. I leaned a few things at the craps table but sometimes you need... More

If you're expecting large luxurious rooms, this ISN'T the place for you. Rooms are small...But honestly I love the hotel. Have stayed here probably 5 or 6 nights. Yes the bathrooms are old and I don't mean retro. To newcomers, if you're sensitive to noise, ask for a room away from Fremont street otherwise you'll be up until 2. Casino... More

We booked a room for 3 persons, incl a 20$ extra fee for the third person, but got a room with one queen bed and no possibility to add an extra bed. So the three person room was actually just the same as a double, only more expensive. Forced to upgrade to a room with two quern beds we only... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Accurately billed as Las Vegas' "Most Historic Hotel," the Golden Gate has stood the test of time and then some. Since opening as the Hotel Nevada in 1906, this modest and cozy corner establishment has stood placidly at One Fremont Street while the town -- and the world -- changed around it. Most notably, the Fremont Street Experience was built right outside its door. Very little has changed to compromise the hotel's old school charm in the intervening years, although the Golden Gate has made improvements and modernized. The hotel remains proudly dwarfed by its neighbors, at just 106 rooms. The rooms themselves, on the other hand, have been updated and include modern amenities like flat screen televisions and iHome clock radios. The casino is just as active as opening day -- and just as intimate -- although now its boasts Dealer Dancers from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. nightly. Its shrimp cocktail -- widely acknowledged as the first ever served in Las Vegas -- is as popular as the day it was introduced. Even as Las Vegas builds toward the heavens, the Golden Gate keeps close to the ground, rooted in its rich and wildly successful history. ... more   less
