There are signs in town claiming that this saloon has the meanest or angriest bartender. I would say more along the lines of least friendliest or least talkative would be more appropriate. The beer was cheap and the saloon inside had potential. The bar table was clean but the walls, mirrors, and glass don't look like they have been cleaned in decades. I think with a good cleaning, it would look really nice. I expected the bartender to be more fun jerky. Instead they were more interested in watching an old Western movie then anything else. You can get a microwave pizza here if your looking for some food

This place is really staying in the Old West. The rooms are modern, clean and comfortable, but there is no refrigerator. The Saloon is a gem. Cold beer, cranky (not really) bartender and frozen pizza for dinner. You will not believe the stars.

I do not remember just how many rooms there are, but they are in two buildings. Maybe eight rooms. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and quiet. Walk out at night and look up. You can actually see stars. A lot of stars. Very nice change from the light pollution of so many areas. You check in at the saloon. The bartender multitasks. Spend a half hour or so, just looking around the saloon. In the light of day, there are many interesting things to see around the motel.

The Santa Fe Saloon has the best Bloody Mary. The bartender is always friendly, no matter who it has been over the years. Very welcome place to get off the road and find out some local history while you wet your whistle for a bit.

We rolled into Goldfield quite by accident, during a larger road trip from Arizona to Oregon. The town is fascinating! Impressive historic architecture leftover from its gold-mining history, an "art car museum" and interesting local residents piqued our interest. We saw a sign pointing towards the Santa Fe Motel and we went to check it out. The motel check-in desk is inside the historic bar. I walked in to see an elderly dog snoozing at its owner's feet and an assortment of local folks enjoying beverages, smoking cigarettes and telling fun stories. Though we had camping reservations in California for the night, three hours farther away, we'd been driving all day and it was closing in on sunset. I called to cancel the other reservations (losing my deposit) so we could stay the night here in Goldfield instead. We were simply enchanted with it! Goldfield is wild and artistic--a brawny old western town, a dreamy and strange kind of town you are lucky to find on a road trip. I enjoyed talking with the local patrons as the bartender wrote out our check-in slip. Steve, a lifelong resident, mentioned his grandparents arrived in Goldfield from Yugoslavia (My Serbian great-grandparents came from Yugoslavia too! But went to Chicago instead of Nevada). Everyone was very kind to us. They allowed our little dogs as long as I promised to "keep them off the furniture." The motel, surrounded by Joshua trees, faded wooden cottages, vintage cars and interesting old mining and railroad equipment, was surprisingly modern and well-appointed. Good AC, good hot water, nice beds, new carpet, spacious. Very quiet. Just the jackrabbits to keep us company. Our room sat right next to a mining head frame. The motel and bar sit in the midst of the "Bullfrog Goldfield Railroad Co. Freight Depot and Repair Yard" and I strolled around until it was too dark to see, taking photos and enjoying all of the beautiful sun-baked relics. Coming from a railroad/mining town in Arizona this place was right up our alley. Goldfield, we love you! The Santa Fe Motel and Saloon is such a cool place! I'd recommend to any travelers of Highway 95. We will definitely be back. Note: I think they did have WI-FI--but we didn't use it. We also did not watch any TV while there.
