My husband and I had dinner in the Cellblock Steakhouse at the Jailhouse Motel & Casino. He had the ribeye which was very good but I chose the prime rib and it was terrible. It was 1/2 fat and there was so much gristle I couldn't swallow one piece. When I mentioned it to the waitress she said prime rib is 'notorious' for this and that is not true at all. The meal was very expensive and not worth it at all.

Really great fun jailhouse theme throughout restaurant with seating set up in individual jail cells complete with bars. Historical jail themed items adorn the walls adding to the ambiance. The Pork Ribs was absolutely amazing! Terrific glaze and cooked perfectly. The Lemon Pepper Chicken was exceptional. A great meal at reasonable prices in a fun setting. Its a win win!

Checked in 8-28-21 at 2:28pm. I usually stay at the Hotel Nevada (great place!) but wanted to try something new. I'd driven 7 hours, Jailhouse Motel seemed likely ... until I found the check in counter. I was very tired and not feeling well. Two clerks were deeply involved in convo at one of the registers. Neither of them glanced at me for 6 minutes. Then both clerks came over, continuing their personal convo, this stretched into a 15 minute retelling of why one clerk's drawer was short. It was a long, detailed story that I didn't need to hear. I asked for a room for the night, one person, cash payment. Clerk stated "I forgot how to do a cash transaction." I guess that she also forgot to return my $25.xx that I had to return to their counter to retrieve. Waiting for the "staff" to take my money and give me a key, I clutched on the counter, almost vomiting on the floor, overcome with dizziness and thought, "I've never felt like this before ... I'm going to fall down." It's difficult to think those two gossipy women couldn't see this senior citizen having a crisis as their conversation went on and on ... I asked, "Ladies, I'm not feeling well could I please get checked in," and one of them snapped, "We're getting there ..." and their convo continued ... OMG. I've worked at a 4* hotel for 5 years and THIS is not how you behave! Help the guest first, take the money, process the transaction and Guest Be Gone to their room. The only person at the hotel who was pleasant (and earned a tip) was the maid, lovely lady, thank you for trying to salvage this horrible stay. As a side note, thank you to the kind man in Ely who got me going on the right road; to the man at a gas station who directed me to Radio Shack (yes, they still exist under independent ownership), the man at the Radio Shack (he is a Prince of charm and goodwill and even refused a tip when I offered after he didn't have the part I needed in stock ... a tip was offered because he went out of his way to assist and explain. I'd love to return to Ely, a treasure of a town, but the two women @ Jailhouse Motel completely soured me on my Ely experience. Can't recommend and HEY THANKS YOU TWO FRONT COUNTER CLERKS for what can only be a moral depravity in ignoring someone suffering. Clean room. Ample parking. Nice maid. Conveniently situated.

Pet friendly. That's a plus. We dined in the lounge as no pets in the restaurant (understandable) the bar tender/ server was over the top awesome. He went out of his way to make our night as relaxing as possible. I ordered the rib eye steal with a stuffed potato. Saute mushroom caps and a salad. Wife had grilled bbq chicken with the sauce on the side (didn't happen) clam chowder and a stuffed potato. Soup and salad came fast, the chicken and steak...about 40 minutes later. Chicken was doused in the burnt catsup bbq sauce. We couldn't get around it so that went untouched. Potatoes were really good, my steak was delicious, I saved a few mushrooms for the top. Since we asked for bbq sauce on the side and it didn't happen, they took the whole meal off the bill. Very decent of them. Yes we would give it another try. Sometimes "things happen "

Booked this the night before as I would be traveling for 14 hrs alone and wanted to make sure I had a place to lay my head.... Even gave them my CC info and they told me what my room number would be. Called the day I was travelling and let them know what time I would be in to make sure they did not give my room away!!!... They promised they would not give my room away "That they would not do that until morning" I arrived around the time I told them over the phone I would be arriving and guess what.. They gave my Room away. The desk clerk was less than pleasant. During a holiday weekend and there were no rooms left in town.... Better customer service on the phone than in person for sure. So buyer beware... You may not get your room that you reserved!!! and they will have no remorse for you!

We had a dinner meeting at the local VFW Post. Hotel check in was 3pm. We arrived at 2. And our event started at 3pm. So they let us pay and we went to our dinner. Much later, we returned to the hotel and picked up the keys. It was not until this morning, we notice we had climbed into the smaller of the 2 beds to sleep.. it was a nice sized room. We both had an excellent night's sleep.

My husband and I checked in at midnight, took the clerk about 15 minutes to check us in, no greeting or anything. We had to drag our heavy suitcase up the stairs as there is no elevator. We were blasted with icy air from the ac upon entering, the room thermostat indicated 62 degrees. The carpet was uneven, felt oily or dirty. The tiny tv screen gave out snowy images as the cable reception was poor on every channel. The tv remote was sticky to touch - ick!! The shower head needs replacement as the water came out splotchy. The shower water tasted like rusty old pipes. The sheets on the box spring were dirty and made my husband’s back itchy. The chairs were old and stained. If we weren’t so tired, we would have slept in our car rather than stay at this motel. Avoid it like the plague!

We stopped in Eli on our way home specially to eat at this place. They open at 5pm. At pm, we were told not ready to open. 40 mins later, a different person says not ready to open. We could hear crashes from kitchen. 55mins later, another group started saying out loud. I guess they don’t want our business, a worker just walked by and said nothing. They left. I walked back up and a ride women said not ready to open we are short staffed. I said 4 workers told us not ready and you only have two people here to seat. She looked at me like I was an issue. I asked how much longer and she said I dunno we called in help. I said so I guess we need to go somewhere else and she said I dunno. We left. Walked next for to one of the nicest Italian restaurants called Gino’s. Never expected this.

Fun place with a great name ! About the only relationship to a jail is that it’s on the site of the old jailhouse, and the rooms are called “cells”. Sizable casino is in the main building across the street from the hotel rooms and there is a restaurant on site, with several other bars and restaurants within easy walking distance.

Took a trip here with a couple buddies to get away and our stay here was great! We were very satisfied with the cleaning protocols, given how old the building is and how COVID has affected the travel industry. Our meals were at the Cellblock
