Staff (I think the owner) was very friendly and helpful. The room was more than I expected and was very comfortable and clean. Beds were great, and I noticed they use very soft towels (not the sandpaper towels you find a lot at motels). The location was perfect, convenient to everything. I will say that it is right across from the railroad, so there is train noise, but I don't mind that a bit, in fact even enjoy it. I noticed that they do offer earplugs at the front office though for those affected by that noise.
And we were still disappointed. I do not know if this is the best in town but I selected it based on the overwhelming positive reviews. Our experience was NOT overwhelmingly positive. First the positives: plenty of parking, close to grocery store and restaurants (try the Side Track), functional, albeit noisy, air conditioning, refrigerator, microwave, bar of soap, reasonably comfortable bed and clean sheets, hot water in the sink, doors that lock (but need to be manually locked when you leave). Negatives: no hot water in the shower (strange because there was hot water in the sink), no shampoo (too cold to wash your hair anyway), very noisy from upstairs bedroom and trains, no coffee in the room but you can get a cup from reception as you check out. There was no pool but I was not expecting one. I would have rated this a three (average) but the lack of a hot water shower in the morning pushed me to the poor rating. We booked this hotel months in advance so this was not a last minute transaction. How others gave this motel a 4 or 5 is a mystery to me but maybe they have had different accommodations experiences than us. Even a hot shower would not make it a good (4) or exceptional (5).…
The Front Desk Individual was polite and helpful in recommending places to eat. I arrived early and the room was ready. The room was clean, the bed easy to sleep and the bathroom adequate. However, the trains pass near the hotel and can be heard.
Great location close to eating places, trails and a historical railroad museum. Trains still travel the Union Pacific line so you'll hear train whistles in the evening which was a plus for us. Close to Elgin historical school and park (20 Mile drive) and short drive North on Hwy 93 to Panaca (15 miles) and the fun historical town of Pioche (27 miles). South to Las Vegas is 152 miles. You'll hit I15 about 130 miles. Quiet, sleepy little town not far from 4 wheeling trails as well.
I got the short end of the straw on the rooms and got saddled with the smoking room. I thought, "oh wonderful. It's going to stink." I was pleasently surprised when I walked in and smelt a fresh, clean room. The furnishings are a bit dated for today's hospitality industry standards but the room is very clean and spacious. The room has a small fridge and microwave, ice bucket, body soap and a shampoo /conditioner combo. There's a good amount of towels and they're of better quality than you'd expect for a small motel. The water pressure is crazy good but the beds firmness didn't agree with my back or neck. There is no breakfast other than oatmeal but the free coffee is very good. I would recommend this quaint little place. -Housekeeping Manager for a national hotel chain.
