I call here every Sunday morning for my breakfast on my way up to my static caravan at Stanhope. The food, quality, service and staff are fantastic at a very competitive price. Most of the other places to get a breakfast in this area on a Sunday morning don’t open till 9 or 10 o clock, where the Brown Horse you can get a good breakfast from 8 o clock. They also do a fantastic carvery on a Sunday lunch.

I have to say that we were made very welcome and the staff were so friendly it was nice and relaxing. The food was plain pub grub but the quality was very good, it was nicely presented and the portion sizes were large. We will be back for sure, thank you.

Our two cars containing 10 family members pulled up in a hurry as we were looking fit somewhere to eat on our journey home from Hadrians Wall to Leeds. From the outside I must admit we were a little hesitant as it appeared more like a truck stop type place. Me and my dad shouldered the responsibility of going in to check out the menu and make a decision. We were greeted with a very pleasant lady and we were thrilled to be told that they had two menu options in an English and Indian. A quick look into the restaurant area although empty seemed pleasant enough. We decided to give it a go and boy I’m glad we did!!! The service was friendly the food a reasonable price and when it arrived we all knew that deserts wouldn’t be required! The portions were large and more importantly the food tasted amazing. I fancied Indian and had a chicken chat starter £4.95 (I think) and the Jalfrazi Naan Wrap (£7.95). The wrap was massive and full of flavour! Our table ate from both the Indian, English and Kids menu and all the food looked great. Unfortunately I doubt I will ever pass again but if I do I will be pulling in for a feed!

Another visit. The bridal suite is now a family room with an additional zbed in the wardrobe. The additional bedding i wouldnt touch as it was covered in felt tip pen n grubby marks. Carpet had weird pink stains. As usual 2 many cushions with the addition of more sequinned ones!! More pillows are needed not cushions. Coffee etc.......more milks needed. But room still nice. Breakfast gone downhill since its now in the cafe. Coffee is awful. Worst part of the stay was some of the food n service. Waited 30 mins for a starter when there was only 3 tables occupied. Dont have the seafood linguine or should that be linguine with hunt the seafood. Too much sauce (bib required). Too much chilli. Too much pasta and not enough seafood. I ate 2 bits n left it. Same as dessert. Not impressed. But had some bits off the indian menu. A lot better but sag aloo could have done with more potato, things could do with a bit more kick if rated with 2 chilli symbols and portion size for some things rather stingy. Drink range improved. Benny is a riot and a lovely bloke.
