Visited with 10 women, all riders, and joined by one other who fit right in with the “Tribe”. Transport from Great Falls a definite perk.Cabins were spotless, well appointed with good quality linens, some on a soothing creek, others with a pasture view. There are no undesirable cabins. Food was delicious and nutritious. Fresh salads/ fruits at all meals, homemade desserts, ribs, turkey, steak) , well prepared and tasty. Activities included mountain sunset viewing, , creek swimming, skeet shooting, Missouri float trip, , cave exploration, museum tour. Not sure if In a “normal” season there would be enough to interest small children. Riding..... mostly ex pack horses, surefooted and gentle. Tack and horses in good shape. If you are looking to fly across the fields, this is probably not the ranch to chose. Divide ride highly recommended, magnificent views and awe inspiring since the trail goes from Canada to MX., again a slow ride due to footing. Nights at the Hideout were great fun .. slept under the star studded sky, cooled our feet in a nearby brook, nightly campfire. The wranglers were accommodating, Interactive, knowledgeable, polite and truly seemed to enjoy our company. They did not disappear at day’s end or keep to themselves. Sandra Renner, owner/ manager is directly involved, committed to providing a great experience to guests, and available if an issue/need arises. Have only been gone 4 days but wish I was still at the Blacktail for another week(month?)

Visited Blacktail Ranch with friends and had a great time. Cabins, which are located throughout property, are comfortable and well appointed and each with unique view. The property itself is beautiful and made morning sunrise walks a pleasure. Fresh fruits and vegetables accompanied each well prepared and delicious meal. The horses were sure footed and well trained, all tack in good shape. The wranglers were absolutely top notch - accommodating, courteous, interactive. It is evident they enjoy what they do. Trails are scenic, especially the Continental Divide ride, which should not be missed. No rigid schedule each day but a relaxed approach to enjoying the area with riding, skeet shooting, cave exploration, swimming holes and a float down the Missouri River. Sandra Renner, owner, is present, involved and a fantastic host. Our time at the ranch was one we will all remember for years to come and we count the day until our return.

We just returned from an amazing week at Blacktail Ranch. We felt like friends from the moment they picked us up at the airport. Our cabin was comfortable and clean. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The meals were delicious and Jodi made sure to have a variety of options for everyone. We even rode our horses to a nice steak dinner by the creek one evening. We spent our days in the saddle and our evenings around the campfire. Whether you are an experienced rider or new to riding, they will match you with a horse and ride to enjoy your time on the trails. There are options of morning and/or afternoon rides, or longer rides where you eat lunch on the trail. Our wranglers (Will, Haelee, Rachel and Sydney) were friendly and wanted to be sure everyone stayed safe and enjoyed their rides. They also offer a raft trip down the river, fishing and a trip into the cave on the ranch so there is something for everyone to enjoy. The history of the cave and the people who settled the land add to the experience. They even have a museum on the ranch to share the history. It’s a great place for everyone (families, couples or singles). We made lots of new friends with staff and guests. All staff did their best to make it a wonderful experience for all guests. This is our third visit to a ranch in Montana; Blacktail Ranch has views that surpassed the others. Whether you are riding through the meadows, creeks, aspen groves or mountains, the views are breathtaking. Thank you so much to Sandra, Will, Scott and all the staff who made sure we had a wonderful vacation. We are already planning to return next year with our new friend we at the ranch.

We had a family group of 13 for our summer vacation. Couldn't have pick a better place to vacation. Our group included some experienced riders down to an 8 year old that had limited riding skills. The head wrangler, Will, matched each individual with the appropriate horse and made sure the saddles and equipment were adjusted correctly to body size which is essential in have a comfortable outing. We rode everyday morning and evening for about 2 hours each session over the 8,000 acres of the most gorgeous mountains, valley's and countryside with every trail being different. Our wranglers Will, Hailey, Rachael and Sydney were experienced and knew all about the ranch, riding and had a passion for the riding the area. The ranch has been run by the same family for generations and they have a museum of artifacts used and found on the property. Explore a Native American Cave, have an old fashion refreshing swim in a 'crik' pool, float down the Missouri River for a relaxing afternoon and have a dinner ride picnic are some of the other events. If you're looking for authentic western experience look no further, Sandra Renner's Black Tail Ranch is the place. What an experience and can't wait to do it again!

My husband and I had such an excellent time that he immediately said he can't wait to return but stay longer next time. Our cabin was cute and cozy, the bed incredibly comfortable, as were the pillows. The views all around were outstanding. It was pure pleasure to sit on the cabin deck in the morning, sipping coffee and drinking in the stunning mountain views. The meals were delicious! All homemade, fresh, quality food. We loved the river rafting trip, the horseback riding, including a picnic dinner, riding on UTV's to the top of the continental divide, and cave exploring. The on-site museum was interesting and it we loved the merchandise we brought home from Sandra's gift shop. Sandra, the owner, was very friendly, made you feel at home, and attended to all the guests needs. Her wranglers and cook staff were all exceptionally professional and pleasant. All in all, outstanding!

This ranch is fantastic!! I went two summers in a row. If I could afford it I’d go every year. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is delicious and nutritious. I stayed in the homestead cabin both years. It’s the perfect size for 1 person. They horses are well trained and are well taken care of. I went on the divide ride this year. The cabin they have that the group shares is nice. It has a bathroom that has a shower that runs on a generator. They send a cook up with the group and she did a great job. We all chose to sleep out under the stars. I definitely plan on going back sometime.

I just spent a week at the ranch. June 27-July 3. This ranch is spectacular!!! All of the ranch staff is friendly and wonderful to be around. I rode a spirited Arabian “Arial “. She was a delight. I stayed in the Homestead cabin and it was perfect for one person. The meals are wonderful and are healthy. The steak at the cookout was so tender and juicy and it came from a neighboring rancher. We went floating down a river in a raft and we stopped at a old train tunnel and walked through it. And the ranch has a nice swimming hole in the creek. It’s cold and it really helps your muscles that are sore from ridding. Because of the extreme heat the ridding wasn’t as much as they offer when it’s cooler but I did two five hour rides plus a one hour morning and evening ride. The owner and her husband’s grandson are wonderful patient people and I appreciate them sharing their ranch. And just wait till you see the museum and cave. I’ll definitely go back.

If you love adventure and horses, this is your vacation. The people at the ranch from owner to wranglers to cooks to cleaning and maintenance….everyone is friendly and dedicated to making sure you have the best time they can possibly create. My husband and I chose this ranch specifically for the Continental Divide ride and we were not disappointed! Will, the owner’s grandson and the future of the guest ranch operation guides the divide rides. He is charming, capable and attentive to every detail to make sure every ride is safe and enjoyable. The divide ride was unlike anything I had ever experienced on horseback (and we own horses). The ride is 16 miles, climbs 3000 feet, follows the divide trail along the top approximately 5 miles and then descends via switchbacks to the valley floor. The horses are surefooted and trained to make this trip. Several in our group were novice riders and made the trip with no issues. We don’t normally like to repeat places we have been for vacation, however we will return to this ranch because of the people and the views. As other reviewers have said lots of other activities, great food and nice lodging. Everything is Top notch!!

Just returned from our stay at the Blacktail Ranch and everything was amazing (Thank you Sandra). All of the guides were helpful and fun (Thank you Parker, Will, and Marie). The rides were amazing, the raft trip a long haul with a little adventure mixed in. You couldn't ask for better scenery, more wonderful people, and enjoyable rides with lots of wildlife. I am a vegetarian and sometimes end up eating salad for meals but the food at the ranch was beyond wonderful (Thank you, Jodi). We even got to add in a trip to the state fair and rodeo. If you are a horse lover, rider, adventurer, or want to go off the grid and relax, this is the ranch for you. Actually, if you want a wonderful vacation of any kind, take a trip to the Blacktail Ranch.

Blacktail ranch had beautiful mountain views. Excellent accommodations delicious meals, knowledgeable helpful staff. The horseback riding was second to none they matched the horse to the riders abilities perfectly. We went rafting that was scenic and relaxing after a morning of horseback riding. They also offered fishing and numerous outdoor activities. We did some cave exploration and had lunch on the trail. I would definitely recommend Blacktail ranch to anyone who wants a Montana adventure.
