I’ll take the negative first, and it is significant. The food is not at all up to the level that you’d expect for what you pay. There is just one very overworked person handling the food for all guests and staff 3 meals a day. No wonder quality and creativity suffers. It’s served buffet style in a way where the line is jammed between a table and a door. The kitchen is split between a cluttered and dirty residential kitchen in the main lodge where most of the guest rooms are located and the cluttered and messy garage on the opposite end of the lodge. There is a desperate need for a commercial kitchen that is sealed off from public view and a professional chef to operate it. Numerous meals were over cooked or under cooked. One breakfast was served with leftovers from the night before. It’s a real shame because the opening night dinner was excellent. We had high hopes that were quickly dashed. This area should be addressed as the absolute #1 priority of the new owners. Second, the rooms in the lodge were really really hot during the unseasonably warm weather. They didn’t seem prepared to know how to address this. There were portable AC units in the rooms, but they were not equipped with the proper ducting to take the exhaust heat out of the room. Otherwise, the rooms had lovely views and were clean (if not a bit dated). On to the good - the location is fantastic. Beautiful property. Horse trails are in beautiful forest areas that back up to the property. There is a stocked pond with easy access to fly fishing supplies. But where this ranch REALLY shines is the activities. They are first rate and plentiful. You can ride horses, take riding / roping lessons, and participate in the guest rodeo to your heart’s content. The fly fishing will easily yield you many hours of fun and relaxation. The lake has paddleboards available. Skeet shooting was a lot of fun, as was archery. One night, we had line dancing after dinner. The night of our guest rodeo, we were treated to a visit to the local rodeo where we could watch the pros with a newfound appreciation. One day we took a whitewater rapid ride down the Flathead River, finishing just outside the west gate to Glacier National Park. It was amazing. Another day we took shuttles and met our horses for a day ride that took us right to the Canadian border and past two stunning lakes. Finally, on to the staff. The staff was very personable and helpful. They were all hard working and enthusiastic. It is made up primarily of college age girls - which leads me to a final suggestion. There were two elements that I think would help. First, I would have the most outgoing staff member take on a cruise director type of role and serve as the primary face to the guests for activities, guest needs, etc. Second, there are so many young staff members, I think that they would operate in a much more cohesive way if they had a few more seasoned hands in the mix to provide leadership. The ownership changed in March 2021, so they are still working to make improvements. While they have no experience in the hospitality industry, they seem to be good people with a strong desire to improve the business. I gather that they are applying a good bit of capital in that direction, and I truly hope that they will succeed.

Property's Favorite Review
Our family stayed at the Bar W Guest Ranch for my father's 70th birthday. We had kids as young as 2 up to my dad at 70. An epic time was had by all. Dave and crew could not have been more gracious or accommodating. The ranch is set in a little slice of heaven in the most picturesque valley outside Whitefish. There were daily cowpoke activities for the kids and incredible horseback rides throughout the area. There is also a lake to go boating or swimming. It had it all. But what really separates Bar W from the others are the people. We really felt like we and the other guest were part of one big family and we still keep in touch with many. If you are looking for a dude ranch for a family, couple, friends, or just by yourself, look no further than the magical Bar W Guest Ranch!!!

Hi Chris, Glad you and your family had such an excellent time with your Father at the ranch for his 70th birthday. We thoroughly enjoyed having you all here and appreciate your wonderful comments about our ranch and the staff. They really do work hard to make sure they take the very best care of you and all our guests, and it's great to get the feedback that they hit the mark. We wish you all the best and invite you back again!

Just spent a week of a lifetime at the Bar W’s Cowgirl Up week. It was the perfect adventure for a horse lover, with non stop daily activities. I was assigned my own horse for the week, a wonderful Quarter Horse mare named Whiskey. Trail rides; barrel racing; team penning and sorting; all day rides, and cattle drive, all in the beautiful Montana wilderness. My sister and I stayed in one of Glamping Tents overlooking the pasture and surrounding forest. It was very comfortable and offered coffee maker, refrigerator, heater and our own private bath just outside. Food was great, breakfast and lunch in the main lodge or outside venues, and to go fare on the longer outings. We also had wine tasting, line dancing and guest entertainment in the evenings. If you’re a rider, of any level, this will be a vacation you’ll always remember!

Everything was awesome. My horse was terrific, wranglers and staff very friendly, knowledgeable, safe and fun. Non stop activities to choose from. Cattle drive was great, learned also how to barrel race, keyhole race, team penning and cutting, skeet shooting, archery and got excellent pointers on improving my riding skills. Everything was included in the base price. Went to ride continental divide on Canadian border. All rides very scenic. Wine tasting, whiskey tasting, margaritas nights for no charge. Hot tub was good as well as food and accommodations. Low ratio of guests per wrangler too. Highly recommend this ranch for any age.

My family and I stayed at this ranch for a whole week. My mother, my husband, myself and 3 children ages 9, 10, and 12. Every single one of us enjoyed ourselves to the fullest and we will NEVER forget the time we spent there!!!! By the end of our week stay none of us wanted to leave! This ranch is all inclusive and serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their Chef named Mark and his assistant Mitch served us amazing food!! We had steaks, pork chops, beef brisket and more. They do not cheat on their meals that they serve by any means!!!! The entire staff from the people who worked in the kitchen ( shout out to Sara, Hannah, Brian, and Braxton) to the wranglers who showed us everything we need to know about our horses( shout out to Megan, Logan, Cody, Alex, Emily, Avi, Graham, and Lindsay) to the owner Dave, the office ladies who worked endlessly to make our stay as perfect as possible, every single person on this ranch is amazing!!!! By the end of the week they all felt like family honestly! Everyone is so pleasant, so helpful, and no matter what you throw their way they are the nicest people I have ever met!!!!!!!!!!❤❤ we were so sad to have to leave and we all wanted to move in! Bar W Guest ranch is by far the greatest place I have ever been!!! On top of the amazing ranch, all other activities were just as amazing. They shuttle you off the ranch to do things like all day rides to canada, whitewater rapids, and more!!!! Anything you may need in town, they will get for you and you don't even have to leave!!! All activities, food, and fun that we experienced was included in the all inclusive fee!!!!! In my opinion you definitely get MORE for your money!!!! We wish we can go every single year to this amazing place! Anyone looking for a vacation of your lifetime, you have to check out Bar W Guest Ranch for sure!!!! Don't miss out on this phenomenal experience, book today!!!!! WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH BAR W STAFF, YOU ALL ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING PEOPLE AND WE MISS YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN SOON!!!!
