Nestled in a picturesque setting, the Lodge at Whitefish Lake receives accolades for its prime location and charming atmosphere, with many guests finding the decor and ambiance impressive. While the hotel offers well-equipped rooms and praised cleanliness, some guests have noted service can be inconsistent and the value questionable given the high prices. Mixed feedback on amenities points to satisfaction with room equipment and boat rentals, despite some accessibility concerns and underwhelming service experiences.

If I could give more than five stars I would. The Lodge at Whitefish Lake was all that I hoped it would be for our MT vacation. Our room was well appointed and exactly as the pictures showed on the website. The food was delicious. We had breakfast and dinner at the Boat Club, lunch at the Boat Club Bar, and we tried the room service several times. We rented a Jeep from the Lodge and when we wanted to add an extra day to our car rental, it was no problem. All the staff from the valet, front desk, restaurant, and concierge were attentive and made us feel welcome. I highly recommend The Lodge at Whitefish Lake.

We had a delightful 3 night stay at The Lodge at Whitefish while exploring Glacier National Park. We were in the Viking Lodge, which is across the street from the main lodge, restaurants and outdoor pool. It has its own parking lot and was actually much easier to get in and out of each day. The lodge has a indoor bridge that connects the two buildings so you don’t have to go outside to get between buildings. We were in room 180 which was the very last room on the first floor. This room was HUGE!!! I’m talking you could have done a few cartwheels across the room kind of huge. It had a huge comfortable king bed, a wonderful gas fireplace and a very nicely appointed bathroom with a separate shower and tub. There was also a small patio and 2 chairs that looks out onto the nature walk area. But what made this room a perfect location was that it was just next to a side door that had a driveway from the parking lot. This made it so convenient to load up the car each morning (cooler, picnic basket etc.) for our day out at Glacier. It was also extremely quite in that area. Service at the front desk was quick, efficient and friendly. We ate at The Boat Club Lounge 2x and it was very tasty. I totally recommend the Italian style Flatbread and the Caesar Salad. Our server, McKenzie was excellent. I do recommend that if you want to have dinner in the main restaurant of The Boat House to call ahead of your trip/arrival. Due to covid space restrictions they were completely booked all 3 nights we were there. Although our main objective was visiting Glacier, we did have a few hours on afternoon to enjoy the outside pool, which is heated and the adjoining hot tub that is located by the lake. Unfortunately we were there during the time that smoke from the west coast fires was hindering the view but we did enjoy the grounds near the lake. The only negative I have to say is that the “heated” indoor pool located in the Viking Lodge was ice cold. Colder then the outdoor pool, and the hot tub in this area was much, much too hot. I did mention the pool temperature to the front desk so hopefully they fixed it. We did enjoy a complimentary s’more that you can get a kit from the front desk and make by the fire pit in the front. This was fun!! Over all the lodge is beautiful and if we lived closer would certainly make it a place we would spend long weekends at. As it is a bit far from home, I would definitely book their again if/ when I’m ever up in Glacier area again

Dear PDXtraveler99, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are always glad to hear when a room is a perfect match for our guests. As you mentioned, we do suggest reservations in the Boat Club restaurant due to those reduced capacities. We also appreciate you letting the desk know of the concern with the indoor pool; I am happy to report that it has been corrected. Hope to welcome you back with clearer skies soon! Best, Rachel DeCuir Assistant General Manager

The Lodge at Whitefish Lake combines a beautiful location (a pristine lake surrounded by mountains), elegant rooms and amenities plus very good service (all things considered given the pandemic). While on the pricier end of the range, we felt like we got very good value for our money and would stay there again in the future.

Amenities include: Pool/hot tub, poolside tiki bar (with fun cocktails!), private beach, private marina with boat rentals (kayak, jet ski, SUP, etc.), indoor and outdoor dining, spacious bathrooms, min-kitchen, air conditioning, etc. There is plenty to do just at the resort itself in addition to all of the amazing activities nearby both inside and outside of Glacier National Park.

We also found the service to be quite good. It was very busy, so there were times that the staff was slammed, but if you can go with the flow (come on, it's a pandemic) then overall you can have a good experience. Our waitress McKenzie at the patio bar was particularly good, along with the staff at the marina who managed to get us time on the jet skis and also the front desk staff who provided good "local advice", had coffee ready at the crack of dawn and made our checkout easy.

Given that it was the summer season, the Lodge at Whitefish Lake was very crowded, but was still less chaotic that anything inside or near Glacier National Park or the surrounding areas. We found it to be a nice oasis on our summer Montana trip.

As noted, The Lodge at Whitefish Lake is on the higher end as far as price, but interestingly, it wasn't materially more expensive than the Lodges inside Glacier National Park or even the hotels and motels near the Park whose rates are all significantly jacked up during the summer season. However, the Lodge at Whitefish Lake is SIGNIFICANTLY better in terms of its amenities (pool, boat rental, AC, mini-kitchen, spacious bathroom) compared to options in or near the park and also has FAR MORE good dining options both onsite and in nearby Whitefish (dining options are extremely limited in and around the Park). If you don't mind driving an extra 40 minutes each way to get to GNP, the Lodge at Whitefish Lake is a no-brainer compared to any of the options in or near the Park.

I expected more from this lodge especially during the pandemic. I certainly did not object to the lack of cleaning of the rooms, but nothing was done to make up for this fact. We stayed there three nights and it seemed like we had to ask for more shampoo or towels or coffee every day. No one from the hotel anticipated needs in this respect. For over $350 a night, a change in towels or a bottle of water would have been ok. And for instance the "convenience shop" was closed at 1pm(or earlier) every day. The vending machine did not work and we could not get a bottle of water without leaving the premises. We had a nice kitchen set up, but there was not so much as a spoon to use. It was useless. were they expecting us to bring plates and pans and glasses. Even paper plates or plastic utensils would have at least allowed us to use the facilities. The room itself was lake facing with a beautiful view ,was comfortably appointed and had a fireplace. We parked in a convenient underground garage though no one actually informed us about parking or frankly anything else at check in. If the property were more service oriented, this would have been a nice experience. IWhen I was at the vending machine that was not working a service person happened to be there. I inquired about whether any of the vending machines were working and he said "no" but this person went to a closet on the floor and pulled out a bottle and he gave it to me and said " they would want me to charge you, but here it is- not charge. Would that the front desk have this service orientation. I hope they improve, because it is in a great location.

On the surface this lodge has the Western feel you would be expecting, but it's a bit worn.

Room/bathroom: Our room was spacious with a small kitchen which included a fridge and a living area with two armchairs in front of the fireplace and TV. The bathroom was large with two sinks, a large soaker tub, a shower stall and a toilet. The lighting in the bathroom was fair, and the counter space was standard.

Room comfort: The climate in the room was comfortable, and we never changed the thermostat or used the fireplace. The bed was comfortable with two pillows per person. There were plentiful towels, and we didn't need to request any additional for the two nights we stayed there.

Food: The food we had here for breakfast and dinner was good. The service in the restaurant was a bit less than friendly and accommodating. They told me they couldn't make a pizza without cheese on it, and they were a bit brusque when we put our names on the list for a table.Overall the food and service was good, however.

Location: The location was good for our purposes. It was a short walk to hiking trails and the downtown area.

Hotel amenities: We did not use any hotel amenities except for the gift shop which had a good selection of item.

Cleanliness: I saved this for last, because it is the reason for the low score I gave. The toilet was visibly dirty when we arrived. To their credit, the housekeeping manager came within minutes and disinfected it thoroughly. However my biggest concern was that the hotel was not leaving any time between guests in rooms since it has been operating at 100% nearly all summer, and the light switches were not visibly clean. Normally I wouldn't expect them to be, but given their high occupancy and inability to leave rooms sitting empty for 24 hours, I felt like they should have been doing extra cleaning to account for that. If you're concerned about Covid, this is not the hotel for you at this time. If you are less concerned about things being super clean, it's fine.

I wouldn't stay here again, likely, but it was fine for this visit. The quality of the food, helped make up for some of the other deficits.

We’re return visitors to the Lodge and it wasn’t a major irritant that was disappointing, but so many small things that in a COVID world with no housekeeping should be taken care of to show care to guests. The pool deck was extremely dirty not getting cleaned that we could see in our time there (7 nights). The restroom near the workout room was also not cleaned as I took notice of the same toilet paper laying on the floor all week. Twice we had to call multiple times to front desk (our phone didn’t work in room) to exchange towels and specifically wash clothes, but they didn’t pick up our towels and we never could get them to give us the requested wash clothes first try. The stair exit door also didn’t work and as said previously the WiFi is very poor. The good in the trip was the Marina help, they were all super friendly and helpful. We had such a great experience our first visit a couple years ago, so disappointed that we most likely will be looking for a new place.

Overall review: The customer service is just not good, but the location is great.

We were very disappointed in our stay here! We have a good family friend who has lived in Montana off and on for years who recommended it. Upon arrival, my husband ringed the bell to check in and the lady who came gave him the eye like she was annoyed with our presence AND it took her a minute to put her mask on. Our room wasn’t ready but she didn’t offer up anything to help. We had to ask where the bar was and how the credit we received work. She was not welcoming and not helpful. At 4pm we returned to find another uninterested front desk staff who spoke to us as a robot. Our room was ready but we never received a text. When we arrived to our room we overlooked a mobile home with moss growing on the roof. It was certainly not the Lakeview room we paid for. When we returned to the front desk, the robot told us they were completely booked and could do nothing. I had to ask for the manager and got an asst manager who was unwilling to help- we’re booked, sorry! I was infuriated at this point. We even tried to find other accommodations but could not find availability with such short notice. Plus the WiFi at the hotel is terrible at best. It took a call from our family friend before they were willing to move us to another room the next night. All we got was “sorry,” no good will gesture or anything. And when we checked out of our first room we had two charges that were not ours- one from the coffee bar that wasn’t even opened when we arrived and the second from the Tiki bar where we paid in full and didn’t even know the room number when we were down there. No signature on either receipt- just applied to our room!

When we tried to have dinner at the hotel, they had no availability, period. When we tried to book to the next night, we were offered a late reservation (8:45). Again just a “sorry.” And in fact one night, we were told there was no waiting list for the Lounge and we were recommended a restaurant down the street. When we came back hoping to get a table to watch the sunset, all the sudden there was a waiting list. WTF. At breakfast our server barely waited on us and my husband and had to go get the coffee to refill his own mug. I am not trying to sound like I am spoiled but if you make a reservation at a Four Diamond rated property, there are simple expectations that were not met during our stay. We simply did not get what we paid for.

We did have a very nice server at the Lounge one night for dinner and the lady who checked us out was nice as well. It wasn’t all a negative experience.

While I hope to return to Whitefish one day, I don’t think I would stay at the Lodge, nor would I recommend it to a friend. Leaving very disappointed!!

I wanted to really like this place, but sadly it was about what I expected. The hotel staff is unenthusiastic and unhelpful, the hotel is very dated and really needs a complete renovation. The rooms are very basic- even in the suite that we stayed in. No plates, cups, utensils or anything in the kitchen and the coffee maker was about 4 inches tall. The beds are extremely uncomfortable and feel as if they’re as old as the lodge itself. We would not stay here again.

My significant other and I attend a wedding weekend here recently. We stayed Thursday-Sunday and were pretty much inside the resort the whole time due to weather (overcast always in whitefish). The weekend was so relaxing. From the built in fireplace in the room to excellent amenities such as their indoor and outdoor hot tubs, lunches with a view of the water, coffee bar, the list goes on... As someone who has stayed at many resorts all over the world this one is top notch. They think of everything: complimentary water bottles next to the bed, turn down service, extra large fluffy towels, a large in room tub, and an extremely comfy bed. The front desk staff were wonderful and accommodating. I had an absolutely divine massage at their extremely luxurious spa. Pretty much from beginning to end our stay was more than we could’ve imagined. The only two things that could use improvement were; our TV did not work even though we had called maintenance to look at it and the road noise in our room 261 was INCREDIBLY loud due to unfortunate room location. Thanks for the wonderful stay!!

We decided to splurge for a milestone birthday and booked two nights at nearly $500/night. We checked in and discovered that we needed to haul or luggage across the street to the Viking wing -- no carts or porters available. Our room was on the first floor with a view of the parking lot, which meant that we had to keep the heavy curtains closed at all times. Looking around the resort, it appears that a good share of the rooms face the busy road or a parking lot. The room was large and clean. As far as relaxing at the resort, forget that. The only thing available was kayaks. There were no chairs at the crowded pool and the beach is gravel with limited chairs and no towels or umbrellas. Luckily, we couldn't book a massage at the resort because we found a wonderful place in town that was considerably cheaper.

You need to book dinner ahead of time. The food is mediocre (some good restaurants in time but make sure to book ahead). The dining room staff were friendly and professional as were the shuttle drivers. The rest of the staff seldom smiled and seemed disinterested in helping. For example, I needed to break a $20 so that I could tip and was told they could not and didn't know where i could.

As far as we could tell, you get nothing for an expensive room. Housekeeping is by request only, there are no additional services other than the shuttle, and no resort feel.

Greetings - the weather is usually pleasant in September, although it grows increasingly cool and wet as autumn moves along. The Lodge is, via car, approximately 45 minutes from Lake McDonald and the Going to the Sun Road.
