We went to Polebridge on the recommendation of our W. Glacier hotel staff who raved about the bakery at the mercantile and about the off-the-grid scene of the community. The scene was fine, but not that novel to us, and the hostel reminded us of houses from our college days in the woods of Northern California. It's hard to not... More

We drove up and camped up past the mercantile. We got there in the evening and I got a baker's dozen of my favorite huckleberry macaroons but to my disappointment they were super soft & crumbly and had very little flavor. I had hoped it was due to it being close to closing. We then stopped the next morning on... More

Long drive to get here, but really nice. Smells good outside, nice flowers, views. Smells good inside the store...like cookies and bread. Pick up some hot sandwiches and cookies and beer. Got there around 10am. The cookies are a bit crumbly though...better eat them right away so they don't fall apart. :)

Stopped at this store specifically for the bear claws. Interesting little local store with t-shirts, postcards and various gift items. There is a glass display counter to display the baked goods. There was a small farmers market outside selling vegetables. If you have a sweet tooth this is a must go to place on the way to Bowman Lake. They... More

Listen up all y'all. They make and sell this thing called a huckleberry bear claw. It's worth a 100 mile drive. So, let me lay down the scene for you. You wake up in the morning, get breakfast coffer, snacks, you then drive to Logan pass in glacier. One of the most amazing and scenic drives in the world -no... More

Our Inn was near West Glacier so we decided to take a scenic drive up the North Fork Road to Polebridge. The road is paved, then gravel, then paved and gravel again. Very interesting history of the folks who settled this remote part of Montana. They wanted solitude and you get it up here. The Bakery and general store is... More

A trip to Glacier wouldn't be complete without a trip to Polebridge. They're kinda out in the middle of nowhere in the park but they serve the best baked good and sandwiches. There's the north fork river nearby for floating and a couple of lakes. But the trip to Polebridge by itself is worth it.

If you're passing by on a visit to Bowman Lake, or for some other reason, stop by the Polebridge Mercantile and give the baked goods a try! We shared a sticky bun, bear claw and croissant. We enjoyed them all and it was a nice little treat after visiting the lake (and the stressful drive on the narrow road!). The... More

PoleBridge is a small community which is about 30 miles or so from West Glacier and also can be reached via Columbia Falls. The road is compact and is easy to drive. Summertime brings the dust! We did not know that there were cabins there and only took a day trip. The store has retained all of the historical implements... More

We are fans of the Polebridge Mercantile and have been going there for over 20 years. It is very unique and well preserved. Some visitors don't like the improvements made by the new owners but we LOVE them. Better cleanliness all around, still excellent baked goods and renovated but still rustic accommodations. Stunning scenery and access to both Bowman and... More

Built in 1914 as a general mercantile for homesteaders near Glacier's northern frontier, the Polebridge Mercantile is a must see attraction.
