We spent 2 nights here while exploring the area. The hotel has been lovingly restored, and while our room wasn't luxurious, the whole place feels like it's from a bygone era of cowboys and land barons. It's worth a stay for the atmosphere alone, but keep in mind the rooms aren't very soundproof. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant... More

The whole town of Fort Benton had a feel of being frozen in time -- somewhere between the late 19th century, and the 1950s. But in a good way. Grand Union Hotel was obviously once an important hotel in an important city -- I gather that Montana history really started there. Now it's a sleepy old hotel, in a sleepy... More

We live in Montana but have never been to Fort Benton so decided to take an overnight trip to stay at the Grand Union, have a nice diner and visit the museums. Dinner was awesome--delicious food and great service. The hotel is beautiful and has been well restored. We had a single queen room with a river view. You choose... More

Very, very nice stay!! We stayed here the night before we did a canoe trip on the Upper Missouri and were very happy. Historic room was room, clean pretty cool and comfy. The hotel lobby and dining room were very nice, breakfast the best we've had. The staff was exceptionally friendly!

This is a well restored old hotel which offers all the amenities one would expect in more modern hotels with the added benefit of a charming atmosphere. Everything was spic and span, and girl at the front desk was wonderfully helpful. We had diner in the hotel restaurants outside patio which faces the river and enjoyed it completely. Highly recommended... More

We had a great two night stay here. The building is beautiful and I loved learning about its history. The lobby is just as it was 134 years ago when the hotel first opened. However, we had a few small issues which stopped us giving it five stars: the wifi was very slow, the walls very thin (we know it's... More

We were attracted to this hotel as Fort Benton was billed as extremely historic and the hotel itself had its heyday in the 30s. The building has been lovingly renovated and the rooms have a few modern touches. I'm glad we paid the extra to have what was described as a mini-suite as even this was barely large enough to... We made a special effort to stay in this fine restored hotel. The owners have mixed old detail with modern upgrades to help us remember what small town hotels were like 75 years ago. A gorgeous facade, gracious first floor rooms and bedrooms with modern comforts. We ate in the dining room for dinner and enjoyed the fare on a.limited... More

The Grand Union Hotel is one of my favorite Montana journeys. Located on the north bank of the Missouri River, the historic hotel promises a sense of bygone days, when Fort Benton was the "World's Innermost Ports." From the front hotel step, you can almost imagine a steamboat from St. Louis arriving laden with goods bound for gold mining camps.... More

We stayed 2 nights at the Grand Union historic hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly, the rooms were quaint and inviting. The bed was comfortable. We received wonderful service from everyone. We liked the small bar, loved the outdoor patio overlooking the Missouri River. The restaurant was beautiful and the food prepared by the chef was excellent. The included... More
