We made a reservation for dinner while staying in a cabin nearby. We needn't have bothered. When we arrived the place was nearly empty. Even so the service was erratic; our waitress took the order (for drinks) from both of us and then had to run back to check she had remembered it correctly (one beer and one soda). Another... More

The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean. Some things are still outdated, but it seems as if they are making updates as they go. Not a bad choice for a reasonable rate. If you have any mobility issues, be sure to request the 1st floor. Management was able to make adjustments to accomodate us fairly easily. WiFi... More

Stayed here for 1 night. Was nice and quite. Not a lot to do in Cooke City but we enjoyed the view and beautiful day. Had dinner and breakfast at the restaurant it was very good. Meet our needs and would stay again

We stayed here during our trip in Yellowstone. We were disappointed there was no hot water in the morning, even though this was the most expensive hotel of our trip. According to the man at the reception, the hotel rooms share a few boilers, which is why there was no warm water left when we took a shower at 7:30am.... More

Right on main street. Excellent mountain and stream views behind hotel for a wilderness setting. Check-in integrates bar and restaurant facilities. Very clean and obviously well cared for by an excellent custodial staff.

Room was clean and quiet. We listened to the rushing stream out our window all night. At a cafe nearby we enjoyed a fresh Montana trout pan fried in butter, which is hard to find these days. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

My initial thoughts walking into this lodge were quite good. I thought cozy, cute, clean, friendly, wonderful lobby area to sit in, nice looking dining area and bar. We were checked in and went to our room that had some nasty smell, but the windows opened do I thought I would just air it out. The smell never went away.... More

We stayed here after an afternoon of sightseeing along the Beartooth Highway. We reserved the room a few days before our trip knowing choices might be limited as we neared YNP. The front desk area was nice, and the room was accommodating. The town is small and this lodge is along the main highway. We opened the windows for a... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Cooke City is situated in the Beartooth Absaroka mountains. Accessible via Montana Hwy 212 Beartooth Scenic Highway, Chief Joseph Scenic Hwy 296 and Yellowstone National Park. Soda Butte Lodge is located on Main Street in the center of town. Our 32 guest rooms are located on two floors of the motel. We are also, the only full service motel in Cooke City with 3-meal restaurant and sports bar full liquor. The large lobby is a great place to relax, by the fireplace or by the windows to "people watch", play cards, read or visit with friends. We are just 3 1/2 miles from the north east entrance to Yellowstone National Park and the infamous Lamar Valley where "wolf watching" is very popular. The area is ideal for wildlife viewing, horseback riding, fishing, hiking, 4 wheeling and many photo-ops. Winter in Cooke City is unlike no other. Extreme snowmobiling, snowboarding and cross country skiing at its' finest. Winter, the lodge, is only accessible through Yellowstone Park (Mammoth) or drive over Chief Joseph to Pilot Creek parking lot and snowmobile in the last 9 miles. Our area is rich in the things money can't buy: history, beauty, wildlife and hospitality. ... more   less
