We had planned to get a hotel for our 29th anniversary instead of camping this night. Motel 6 in the area was the cheapest hotel at $295 a night. Ridiculous!!! So camping again was the plan. Traveling late and could not find a camp spot anywhere!!! My daughter got online for home and found this place and booked online for us. Pulled into camp ground around 9 pm. They were showing a movie in the main grass area on a big blow up screen. So cool! Owners greeted us, with a cold soda and snack. They could tell it was a long day and we were frustrated trying to find a place to stay. Showed us to our spot and checked us right in from the camp spot. They told us they were new owners and planned lots of upgrades to the place. We had a tent site. Nice big spot and picnic table. Bathrooms have just been re done and awesome!!! Showers were just like you were at home!!! They have laundry facility and all. At the area they have 24 hr gas with card. There is a mini mart for most anything you need. Next to the mini mart is espresso/gift shop with lots of sweet treats. Can not say enough good things about this couple running this place. If you need a nice safe, clean camp ground this is the place!!!…
I stopped here for the night. The RV park is right off the interstate, very easy to get to. There is some road noise from the freeway though. The shower/bathroom cost $10 extra, it it was clean and the water was hot. I arrived after 4:30, so the store was closed though gas was available. I called the owner to check in, there is no one on site after 4:30. I had changed my reservation by a day, and they were helpful. The WiFi worked well. Overall a decent place to stay at if you are passing through.
Beautiful campground. Nice level sites. No tables or fire rings though. Bathroom/ showers were clean but needed work! Rust on floor, no bench, no bath mat, no place in shower for your personal items. Dumpster was spilling over. Store and ice cream shop was fantastic. Bottom line $45 for water and electric. I expect a bit better amenities.
The Moose Crossing Sweets & Gift shop in the NE corner of the Cardwell Store makes great coffee. It is pretty rare to find this good of espresso and cappuccino in rural Montana. They also have a good selection of ice cream and candy, especially gummies. Friendly, well trained staff. No place to sit inside.
As noted earlier, trying to find a RV site in the cooler months can be quite the challenge. En-route to Butte, we stumbled by a billboard advertising this cute little park. We called and found that they had space with water and power. The park was clean and snow free. Diesel fuel on site. There are some permanent dwellers but they are all kept together in one specific area. Showers and restrooms are available.
Finding campgrounds that are open in the northern part of the USA during the cooler months (November to March) is NOT easy. Finding this one was a blessing! Making sure to pull in whilst still daylight, we checked in at the gas station, per sign's instructions. The gas station is directly in front of the RV park. (Another plus as we did not have to go far to fill truck up with diesel once unhitched.) Once checked in we proceeded to find our 50 amp spot. (NO map was provided except the one shown to us in the gas station.) The sites are gravel but we had no troubling leveling. The 50amps are also long which was great for our 42' fifth wheel. WiFi was reasonable. That code is provided for you when you check in, along with the camp rules. The only additional request/demand that was made was that we turn the water off at night. This is totally reasonable for the time of year as it does and did go below freezing. Due to having everything we need in the camper we did NOT use the laundry or shower facilities. Easy to access off of I90 in Cardwell, you will experience some road noise from the interstate. Having not been used to that for a while it did wake me up a few times. Would we stay here again? Yes, if passing through this way. Probably not a campground we would want to spend a long time at. NO playground for kids but there is a pond. Campground was clean.…
We stayed two nights at this campground. During that time, the bathroom wasn't cleaned at all. I asked at the front desk when it gets cleaned, and was told once a week. The shower and bathroom floors were filthy. There were no paper towels, and I was told they ran out. The washing machine was set for cold water, but was steaming hot instead. It is noisy at night because you are right next to I90 and the all-night truck noise. The only good things were the very fast WiFi and the not-too-pricey supplies offered in the store. If you do stay here (or close by), be sure to go on the cavern tour at Lewis & Clark park.
We drove past this campground on our way to the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park and even though we managed to get a spot there, it was without hookups and very sparse. We then opted to go back and try Cardwell and it was simply wonderful. Everything here is clean, quiet and nicely laid out. Showers are included free of charge too! Having the convenience of the store / gas station right there was also a plus in my book. Even though we stayed just the one night (on our way to Yellowstone), I would certainly return as it is an awesome location to park and explore the area. Thank you Cardwell for a great experience!
Stayed here for a week in our campers. The campground was nice, quiet and well maintained. No issues. Internet was a little slow but who needs that when you are on vacation. Would go back if we are ever in the area.
