A premium price is charged for a property that is in dire need of updating . The initial impression when walking into the lobby was from old and worn furniture. The room was worse. The thermostat, according to a Staff member “is a lie”. There is no fan adjustment on the thermostat but It shows there is one . The temperature control also did not work. The power outlet by the bed was not functioning. There were no amenities in the room , such as a coffee pot. We enjoy staying at old , historic hotels , however this was just an old ran down hotel. It certainly wasn’t worth the fee.
While my wife was admitted into the Billings Clinic recently, the People at the Northern offered me a stay there for a very inexpensive “Hospital Rate”! I had stayed at this great old hotel for many many years before it was remodeled, but not since!! I was very pleasantly surprised at what “they have done” to this Grand Old Hotel!!? The desk people )especially one nice lady who was very genuine, (so sorry I don’t remember her name), was especially concerned about -how my wife was doing, each day I returned to stay! They “Stood Behind Their Special Rate” for as long as I stayed!! The Hilton place up the street DID NOT!! After a couple of nights at THEIR “Hospital Rate” they “reneged “, and tried to charge NEARLY DOUBLE!! Thank You Northern Hotel!!
This hotel is in the center of billings and it did not disappoint us from beginning to end. The lobby is beautiful, the front desk staff nice and fast. The hotel room was very clean and modern. The bed absolutely comfortable and big. Get breakfast at their place (Bernies diner), it will not disappoint you. This was one of the best hotels we stayed in in the US and this for a very affordable price (mind you, on the eastcoast you pay 50% more just to stay in an Inn or Motel). Whenever we come back to Billings we will definitely stay here!
Excellent service Two restaurants I recommend this hotel for the wonderful hospitality , cleanliness , location and spacious rooms . Conveniently located walking distance to the science museum , shops , airport . We really enjoyed being at the hotel with our children and grandchildren. Room service is a super plus .
We had an event at the Northern and chose to stay at the Hotel after the event. The event was amazing, staff was knowledgeable and courteous. The room was clean, quiet and we had a great view of downtown. Entering the Northern always makes me feel like going back to a simpler time when people cared for one another and took a personal interest in providing over the top service. Even though we live relatively local, we enjoy an in town get away at the Northern whenever possible
Arrival is easy and hen you arrive you enter a large hall leasing toward the fire. We got in late and the front desk woman also parked our car! There was a wonderful fire in the lobby and the room was clean and spacious. There is not much else around there though. few restaurants and bars, A simple co-op shop for expensive groceries, The room was clean and well appointed though
I stay in Billings quite a lot. But I don't like staying in the Northern Hotel because it's generally over the price that I want to pay and I don't like having to maneuver the load in and load out at the street and then having to take my car to park for the night in a parking garage. They have valet parking but I hardly carry cash (for the tipping). The room was very clean and looked nice. The shower was nice too. The bathroom was VERY tiny, but maybe the higher-priced rooms are more spacious (?). I paid $150 plus taxes, for the night, and I think that I just happened to hit a sale with booking.com. This hotel is usually higher per night than $150, though I still don't like paying that much. The bed was very uncomfortable and the VERY lumpy pillows and a few hard ones too, made for a not-so-nice night. My back was in pain. This is only the second time I've stayed here. The first time, the room was clean...but it was FREEZING. So, I have to say I try to avoid staying at the Northern. I usually stay at another hotel in town, but it was sold out for the night, and the Northern was the only place with this price point and good reviews. Like I said, I didn't want to pay $150 for a room, but the other places with good reviews had prices that leaped higher than $150, so I just booked it fast so I wouldn't have to pay even higher for a room. And there are other hotels that were cheaper, but I'm highly concerned about bedbugs, so I really read reviews for cleanliness and end up spending a little more. Most of the staff at the Northern were nice...the men at the valet/entrance area were super polite and friendly. I think I passed by some of housekeeping staff and they were friendly too. Front desk...meh. I don't know if breakfast was included. The front reception person never mentioned it so I got breakfast at a restaurant in town. It's clean and nice, but find another hotel that has atmosphere as well as comfortable beds.…
We stayed for one night at this hotel before catching an early flight at the airport. It's in a great location downtown, with places to eat nearby. We appreciated the complementary parking right next to the hotel, and the staff at reception were friendly. The lobby was very nice. The room was small, but clean and comfortable, and a good hot shower. There was a gap between the door and floor, and in the middle of the night there were raised voices and noise from one of the neighbouring rooms, though we weren't sure which one. We had to turn the TV on to block out the noise and get back to sleep, so there's not much in the way of soundproofing between rooms. No coffee/tea making facility in the room which would've been nice, and at this level of hotel, was a surprise not to see. But overall, for a short stay, this was a comfortable place to be, and was worth it for the convenient location.…
Beautiful Historic hotel. Lovely king room with a nice view and excellent service. We had dinner in the restaurant which was excellent and breakfast at the Bernie’s Café in the hotel and that was fabulous. If we are ever up that way again we will definitely stay at the northern.
The smell in the room was like burning wood. The pillows were extremely lumpy! We got up to take a shower and let the water run for 15 minutes it never got hot. We left without showering. That's not acceptable! I paid $254.00 for a room like this! We didn't even have a coffee pot. I will be staying at the Hilton the next time I come to Billings!
