We really enjoyed staying at the Paul Ranch. The bunkhouse is set up with three bunks, a writing table, a dining table and a fridge. The very nice bathhouse just next door has a shower, sink and toilet. It is basic, but quite charming and comfortable. We enjoyed sitting on the shaded front step gazing out at the grasslands and mountains. Lots of privacy, peace and quiet. The location is very convenient to both the St. Mary and Many Glacier areas.

My husband & I stayed in the Wagon Wheel cottage at Paul Ranch for 5 days in Sept 2011 during a 12-day visit to Glacier / Waterton. If we had it to do over, we'd stay only at Paul Ranch. It’s unbelievably beautiful & secluded without being totally isolated. Janice & Colin are great hosts - had everything we needed. Location is hands-down the BEST for exploring the best of East Glacier Park (Many Glacier, east-side of Going-to-Sun Rd., & south-east Glacier). If you're planning on visiting Waterton, stay at Paul Ranch - it’s only a 45-minutes gorgeous drive & no hassle with border crossing border. Don’t stay in over-priced, touristy Waterton - just day-visit. After our stay at Paul Ranch, we crossed to West Glacier & stayed in Columbia Falls, but were disappointed with its touristy nature (plus it’s a longer drive to get back to into the park). The east & west sides of Glacier are like night & day. Maybe the west side is ok if you have small kids & want to take them to tacky waterparks, etc. Additionally, all the hype on Montana websites about the "charming" towns of Kalispell & White Mountain is just that - hype. If you like having space to yourself & want to spend your time in nature, save your time & money & just stay at Paul Ranch; besides, East Glacier is truly the far more beautiful side. Everything about the cottage was very comfortable & we could have had 2 more couples comfortably. We had TV though we seldom watched with so much beauty out the front door. Cooked our own meals & had several great ones nearby. I can't say enough about Paul Ranch or Janice & Colin. For the purpose of folks reading this review, all our lodging on the trip was in rental cottages for 4-5 night stays. It’s the only way to travel, and beats by a long shot the crowded rooms, full parking lots & lack of freedom staying in the park lodges. If you just have to be able to say you did it, stay 1 night in a lodge, and then head to Paul Ranch. Thanks Janice!

Our family stayed in the Meadowlark Meadows house while visiting Glacier Nat'l Park. The house is extremely clean, quite spacious & has pretty much anything you might need - even bear spray for hikes (& a lesson in how to use it). The beds were very comfortable as were the couches in the living room. There is plenty of land between the houses so you don't even know if the others are occupied or not. Janice & Colin treat you like longtime friends & will do whatever they can to make sure you enjoy your stay. Janice made a point of letting us know of any larger wildlife on the property to be aware of or to view. As busy as she is, she remembered our 2 sons were runners & was concerned they might have been on a run when she came & told us a bear was on the neighbor's property. We would definitely stay here again if in the area.

We stayed at the mountain views on a budget bunkhouse, one of their property's. The location was great for exploring GNP and if wanting to feel remote. Kind of felt like camping with walls. The place felt like it was falling apart. Very hot at night and extremely cold in the morning. The biggest issue was the bees. They surrounded the bunkhouse, your car, and the bathroom (which is in a seperate location) and it was hard not to let them inside. The bathroom was in a separate location so this made it difficult to use it or even go outside as we didn't want to open the door to much. Overall, would not recommend.

Extremely comfortable accommodations, with an excellent kitchen and a stunning view of the mountains and plains. We stayed in the largest home -- spacious and not at all spartan. Quite accessible to the Many Glaciers entrance to the park, and much better value than the lodges and motels in the park. Tons of wildlife on the roadsides and in the park. We would absolutely stay there again. The caretaker, Janice, was wonderfully welcoming and went out of her way to make sure that we had everything we needed.

Guests should be aware that wifi is available but limited in terms of bandwidth and that only Verizon phones seem to work on the east side of the park. If you are coming in from West Glacier/Columbia Falls, stop at a supermarket to buy most of what you'll need for the days you'll be in the East -- food options are limited, since it's pretty rural.

We enjoyed three nights in Meadowlark Meadows. The home was absolutely spotless and the location was perfect for visiting GNP and the surrounding areas. Paul Ranch is a working llama ranch located right where the prairie rises into the mountains. Spectacular views abound. I walked outside to take pictures of wildflowers that were blooming and saw literally hundreds of birds fly out of the fields. We were warmly greeted upon arrival and received lots of good information about the area from the folks at Paul Ranch. We were two couples traveling together and the cabin was perfect for us in every way.

I loved my stay the first week of August at Paul Ranch, located four miles north of Babb. The one-room bunk house served as my base for six days of serious hiking in Glacier NP. The location was perfect, providing quick access to both the Many Glacier and Rising Sun trail heads, while at the same time being removed from park activity in the late afternoons and evenings. I cannot tell you how comforting it was after long hikes to settle down on the front porch with a take home dinner, enjoying the quietness of evening and the glory of nature. I was treated to alpacas, a lama, hummingbirds, magpies, dogs, a cat, elk, deer, bears (at a safe distance), and range horses and cattle, as well as views of pastures and hill sides extending to the horizon. As Paul Ranch makes clear, the bunk house has electricity and WiFi but no indoor plumbing, so I got into the routine of showering and doing laundry after hikes at either Swiftcurrent Motor Inn (at Many Glacier) or Johnson's Campground (in St. Mary). For me, the ruggedness of the bunkhouse fit perfectly with what I was doing at Glacier, and I thought the price was right. Finally, many thanks go to Janice and Colin, my wonderful hosts at Paul Ranch.

We just returned from a 2-week road trip across the US. We stayed 2 nights at Elk Willows, and everyone in our party agreed it was one of the highlights of the trip. The pictures just do not even do the place justice. The sunrise and sunset views were spectacular. The silence there was wonderful. Our 10-year-old daughter had the best time simply playing outside with the neighborhood friendly dogs and the ranch's alpacas. She now wants to move to Montana. :)
The lodge was so very clean and comfortable. Our family of 3 was traveling with my parents. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Our only regret was that we didn't book it for longer. I would love to sit on the front porch and just watch the endless views for several days.
Glacier National Park is a simple, short drive away as is the Canadian part of the park in Waterton. The border crossing was not crowded and was easy and quick. We found the east side of Glacier nicer and more picturesque than the west side. We saw lots of bears while in and around the park. We saw elk at sunrise on the ranch. Janice was so helpful and nice. She supplied us with bear spray and told us how to use it. :) She also cleaned daily and brought us some delicious homemade caramels! She makes you feel like you've known her for ages. I had to resist the urge to hug her goodbye after just 2 days! If you want solitude and beautiful views, book Elk Willows. We loved it and hope to visit again someday.

If you enjoy a little seclusion, you should check out the Paul Ranch. We stayed in the Wagon Wheel Trailer for 5 nights in early July. The place had excellent views of Glacier's mountains, comfortable beds, a covered deck for enjoying meals outside, and entertaining alpacas! We had been to Glacier previously and bounced around different lodges (4 places). This time we picked one place and it was awesome. The ranch is in Babb, only a few minutes from Many Glacier and St. Mary's entrances to Glacier National Park. Janice, the hostess, made sure we got comfortably settled in--even though we got there late! She also cleaned every day--and even did our dishes! We would definitely stay at Paul Ranch on our next visit to Glacier.

We stayed in the Wagon Wheel and this vacation rental met our expectations. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well-equipped, the setting was relaxed and beautiful. The thirty minute drive into Glacier National Park was interesting and we saw something new every time. We enjoyed getting to know Janice, the caretaker, and hearing her stories of surviving the 40 below winters. She was attentive to our needs and it was great to come home to dishes washed and beds made and even delicious homemade cookies sometimes! We would go back in a heartbeat.

This must be a mistake. This location is a ranch in Montana

What type of roads lead into the ranch? Dirt, gravel, or blacktop?
Answer from Dollyanna1991
Canandaigua, New York13 contributions2 helpful votes
The main road is blacktop but once your turn off onto the ranches' road they are dirt and gravel. It is about 1 /2 to Âľ miles to the houses. If you are a birder check out the marshes as you are driving in for unusual birds.
