Interior was great. Clean and well maintained. Nice rooms. Out by pool though was pretty run down. Landscaping wasn't kept up and lots of tiles in pool was missing. Really a shame, because if the pool are would've been as nice as the rest of the place, I would've given 5 stars.

Hotel's Favorite
We stayed for 2 nights while in town for a conference. The inside of the hotel is beautiful with plenty of room for sitting and relaxing in the giant atrium. We arrived a little earlier than check-in but the front desk rep, Chris, was very accommodating. They'd had 200+ guests check out that morning so housekeeping was busy! But it wasn't 5 minutes after we arrived that he informed us our room was ready! He was super-friendly & helpful! We were given a "poolside" room but the pool had already been drained for the season (which was fine with us...we wouldn't have necessarily enjoyed being by the pool during pool season!). The room/suite was clean and very spacious with a king-size bed, a couch, chair, and small table but still plenty of room to walk around. Our room did come with a mini fridge, which was an unexpected bonus! The curtains were a little frayed and one panel was missing on the blackout curtains. As a general rule, hotels need more outlets by the bed! There was a 6-outlet adapter but it was located on the other side of the room; not very handy if you want to charge devices by the bed overnight. Thankfully, we always travel with an extension cord for such scenarios! Despite being on the ground level and right next to the elevator, the hotel was pretty quiet. Only the occasional sounds of suitcase wheels on the floor as people exited the elevator. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again!

There are two outlets in the room that are NOT conveniently located. One behind the bed which unplugs very easily. The other one by the corner far from reach, that one also unplugs easily. There is a lamp on a nightstand that is non functional as the TV and Fridge are plugged in so you can’t use the lamp. There is a small alarm radio on the other night stand it does not work either, you either plug in your phone or the alarm clock. The mattress on the bed is tilted towards one side and it is just uncomfortable. Housekeeping get 1 out of 5 stars. Not a comfortable stay. How the heck people give this place more than 2 stars, I dont know.

Being picked up from the airport the driver and owner of the hotel gave a great tour of the town along with a history lesson. I won’t spoil it but a famous actor is from Springfield. The ride was about 15 minutes to the hotel. The shuttle runs to the airport every 30 minutes. The room was large with big windows. There is a nice sink area outside the bathroom if you’re sharing the room. The shower area was a little tight but clean and a nice hot shower. The bed was clean and comfortable and extra soft pillows. Downtown is about four blocks away and the famous Walnut Street is on the other side of the parking lot. I Highly recommend eating in one of the local restaurants on Walnut since they are in old historic homes. Many commercial restaurants as well within walking distance. MSU campus and stadium is less than a half mile and easily walkable from the hotel. The hotel boasts a large outdoor pool and a small indoor fitness center. The fitness center has free weights and up to 50 pounds, elliptical machines, bikes and treadmills. There are many places to sit and hangout with a large bar. Outside has tables and an outdoor fire pit. At the time of this writing was during the COVID19 crisis so the gym, pool, bar, and morning buffet were closed.

Went to Springfield for business and to see my college student. Early check-in requires a fee which is their choice but not typical to my experience. Also atypical, was the unwelcoming demeanor of the front desk clerk. On their side, they had a political convention at the hotel and clearly were overwhelmed. Also overwhelmed, the parking lot. There was zero access to the building by car and we had to traverse the outgoing lane to get anywhere near the hotel. The front desk was not interested in holding our luggage until a room opened and did not provide a room until the 4 pm allowed time (a late time for most hotels). The room itself was ok. Granite counters in the bath areas and decorated very traditionally. It was clean. Pillows were lumpy. Convention guests felt free to liberate their children in the common areas and hallways in the evening until just before midnight. No parental supervision provided. This is surely a parent issue but also a hotel issue. Maybe they should have given these kids the same attitude as we got at check-in. We woke up early and went to get the 'free' breakfast' we were promised when signing up online. When we asked the front desk clerk how we took advantage of the opportunity we were informed that online guest through third parties were not welcome to the free breakfast. Management needs to correct this on their postings with these third parties. We went for breakfast elsewhere and were much happier with the food for the same price. We will not return. It is a shame as it is close to the university. However, the likelihood of further conventions or other significant activities at the university to cause staff stress are too great to risk experiencing that again. We'll go farther away from MO State, get the same quality, same price and get better service.

Dear 833Jilla, Thank you for taking time to share your experience regarding your stay with us at University Plaza. I will follow up with our Front Desk team regarding the items you mentioned to ensure they are isolated occurrences. I apologize if the information on the third party site offered complimentary breakfast. That is not an amenity we offer outside of a room package. We hope you will give us another opportunity to be your host and show you that customer service is truly a priority of the staff. Sincerely, Brent Parker General Manager University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center
