At the University Plaza Hotel & Convention Center, guests have called out the inviting common areas despite rooms receiving criticism for their outdated decor. The noise level has been a point of contention, with disturbances from AC units and poolside activity affecting sleep. While the hotel's cleanliness earns praise, value perceptions are mixed due to aged amenities and extra costs. However, its prime location is popular among travelers, and services like the shuttle and family-friendly amenities like pools are appreciated, even as some guests note they could benefit from updates. Staff service receives positive mentions for its attentiveness and helpfulness.

Being picked up from the airport the driver and owner of the hotel gave a great tour of the town along with a history lesson. I won’t spoil it but a famous actor is from Springfield. The ride was about 15 minutes to the hotel. The shuttle runs to the airport every 30 minutes.

The room was large with big windows. There is a nice sink area outside the bathroom if you’re sharing the room. The shower area was a little tight but clean and a nice hot shower. The bed was clean and comfortable and extra soft pillows.

Downtown is about four blocks away and the famous Walnut Street is on the other side of the parking lot. I Highly recommend eating in one of the local restaurants on Walnut since they are in old historic homes. Many commercial restaurants as well within walking distance.

MSU campus and stadium is less than a half mile and easily walkable from the hotel.

The hotel boasts a large outdoor pool and a small indoor fitness center. The fitness center has free weights and up to 50 pounds, elliptical machines, bikes and treadmills.

There are many places to sit and hangout with a large bar. Outside has tables and an outdoor fire pit.

At the time of this writing was during the COVID19 crisis so the gym, pool, bar, and morning buffet were closed.

Not sure how old this attractive looking hotel is. The interior looks like it was either once a Embassy Suites or styled after the interior design. Great colors for the lobby and guest first floor.

Rooms are spacious but lack basic needs like a refrigerator or USB ports. Bathroom needs updating badly, stains on popcorn ceiling and the room drapes would not close 100%. Bed was old and worn down. Owners need to spend some $$$ on this place to update it.

Staff was nice and professional but did have to ask for toilet paper as we had 1/2 of a single roll when we checked in.

Great location for anything associated with Missouri State University. Only 4 blocks away.

I stayed at this hotel for a work conference. The room was very clean and well kept! Employees were helpful and pleasant to talk to. I'm giving it 4 stars for two reasons: first, there are no water bottle fillers except for one fountain off the main lobby. It's difficult to fill your water from a fountain because it's never full - I know it sounds like a little thing, but we were here for a choir conference. Singers need water often :)

Second, and more importantly, there are no nursing mother spaces in this hotel. Spending a few days away from my baby, I needed to pump often, and the only place to do it (while attending conference meetings and not wanting to go back to my room) was in the bathrooms. There was no seating in any of them, so I awkwardly stood at the sink every 2-3 hours and made lots of awkward small talk. It would be nice if more hotels considered nursing mothers.

Other than that, excellent hotel!

Our main complaint was that large crowds of people were allowed to gather in the atrium of the hotel and they were continuously chanting and yelling loudly. These people gathered both evenings that we were there and the loud noise disturbance lasted for hours and continued until about 12:00 am each night. The management obviously does not enforce quite hours and does not enforce the use of face masks by their guests either. The hotel atrium had became a massive covid spreading party that was allowed and not controlled by the management of the hotel.

The website states that breakfast and room service is available and we discovered that they do not have either of them available when we checked in. I even received an email after booking the room from the hotel asking if I would like to add breakfast each morning at a discounted rate of $7 per person. They obviously do not update their website or their reservation email system.

The beds were not very comfortable and the sheets looked old and dirty. The shower curtain liner had mold on it and the tub did not drain well.

Looking for a place we could check in early afternoon so the kids could nap. I called the hotel. I was told that check-in is usually 4 pm. I said we are looking for an earlier check-in. The man said we always have the rooms ready by 3:15. So I booked 2 rooms. 1 with 2 double beds and 1 with a king bed. Arrived at 3:30went to check in. A man behind the counter practically yelled telling me that they had only had 3 hours to clean all the rooms. Finally checked in. When my daughter got to her room it was not a king bed. Went to the desk and they said they didn't have any king rooms left. He finally said we found one but it is a wheel chair accessible one with out carpet. Moved my daughter and her family to that room. This room the bathroom ceiling was leaking, wallpaper was peeling, sheetrock behind was flaking off all over the floor. 1 year old grand daughter was completely gray from knees to feet from the filthy floor. Again we went down to the desk and asked to speak to a manager. Manager wasn''t available. He proceeded to tell me they were booked solid and had not other rooms available so I told him we wanted our money back for both rooms and we would go elsewhere. Came back and said they were upgrading our daughter to an executive suite. Shower doesn't drain and Air conditioning doesn't keep up with the heat. Concrete chips in the outdoor pool and the ladders for indoor pool are pulling out of the concrete. actually pulled up out of the cement when you tried to use them.

The AC ran for 2 hours and the room temperature was over 80 degrees. The hotel is fully aware the room was over the kitchen of the restaurant and it would not cool down until the kitchen closed. Totally unacceptable to book customers in a room that you’re fully aware has an issue with heat due to the location. Moving rooms at 10:30 at night is not my idea of a good experience. Beware of rooms over kitchen on 2nd floor.

I don’t even know where to begin. I am currently laying awake past midnight writing this review because I cannot sleep. The a/c in my room does absolutely nothing even after being set to as low as possible for 9 hours. The WiFi is so slow I can’t watch a simple YouTube video at more than 240p and it still freezes often. There is a constant and loud vibrating/humming noise in the wall next to the bed’s headboard that I can do nothing to stop. I am in a handicap accessible room which I was not informed of and instead of a shower with a tub there is an open shower with a shower head that doesn’t attach to the wall and sprays water all over the bathroom unless held at all times. There are people yelling in the common lobby area even this late at night and the office chair and desk are virtually unusable due to their short height and shakiness. I want to ask for a refund or at least a different room but I’m sure it would take multiple hours to talk to a staff member because the hotel is booked full but there was only one front desk employee in sight. You would think that a convention center hotel would be used to accommodating large numbers of guests but they seem to not be functioning at all. This is the first review of a hotel I have ever made because this weekend hotel experience has been the worst of my life.

Not a great experience!! We get that people are short staffed but it took almost 4 hours to get our rooms after attempting to Check in with our reservations. There are areas that are run down and safety issues like the indoor pool stairs that have sharp metal corroding areas on it. . The staff was not friendly at all and never once attempted to make the wait worth it. The web site is vague and breakfast is not included in the room price. Will not be staying here again

Stayed 3 nights no fridge in room. I was on 3rd floor only ice machines were on 7th 8th and 9th floor. No drapes in room only had sheer curtains, outside lights keep room bright all night. The pancakes with the breakfast were too hard to cut even with a knife.

My wife and I have stayed here the last couple years while visiting our son at the nearby university. Great location, within walking distance of the campus. Was glad to see that restaurant services have returned, but the non-complimentary breakfast is simply not worth the $15 buffet fee.

Check-in employees are friendly and helpful. Some updates help with the overall atrium ambiance, such as newer carpeting, but many parts of the hotel are in need of updates. Our room had small aesthetic issues, such as worn carpet and drapery that dragged the floor by at least a foot, but overall still comfortable.
