We stayed here while biking the Katy Trail and they are very accommodating to cyclists. We were able to take our bikes up to our room where we had ample room to store them safely overnight. Our room was on the top floor with a nice view of downtown Sedalia. The bed was comfy with plenty of pillows and there were lots of charging outlets and good wifi. We actually had a full bath and a half bath in our room! It appeared that the room had been modernized & enlarged by combining 2 original rooms. The complimentary breakfast was good, with homemade sausage gravy on our biscuits. It’s a lovely historic hotel and a nice change from chain hotels.

Hotel's Favorite
If you are riding the Katy Trail this is a must-do stay. The hotel is super friendly and accommodating to bicyclists. This is a historic hotel so some of the rooms are smaller than you might be used to at more modern hotels. The stay was comfortable. Last year the breakfast was better (IMO). The local coffee shop was more desirable than the free breakfast this time. We will be back though! The staff is wonderful.

TERRIBLE experience. I’ll start this off by stating that my husband and I got married in June 2022. I called the hotel & set up room blocks AND reserved the bridal suite for our dates back in OCTOBER 2021 . I provided my credit card info & then was assured everything was booked & taken care of. About a month later, I get a call. A relative attempted to book a room within our block & used the code the hotel provided us only to be told that the hotel has NO room blocks & has NO wedding that weekend. My mother-in-law went to the hotel in person (since I do not live in Sedalia) to figure everything out. It was “fixed” & we were told that the booking was “in their other system.” Which I do not believe & they just took my credit card info. We get it worked out & everything is fine; I’m assured we still have the bridal suite. Few months before our wedding, I have a friend tell us that they had trouble booking & the rate was almost double what they were expecting. When I set everything up, I was given a cost & immediately put it online. Our guests were told that there were no blocks & the price is about $150/room with tax. I was told the cost would be $90/room. We get it all sorted out with the manager whom then sent me & my mother-in-law a text with confirmation of room blocks; again it was “in their other system.” my mother-in-law had gone to the hotel the day before I arrived for our wedding weekend, spoke to the assistant manager whom assured her that the bridal suite was booked for us & she paid for it in full for Friday & Saturday night & then it was possible we might stay Sunday night too- all of which he agreed & put in their system. Fast forward to the NIGHT BEFORE MY WEDDING. I check in & provide the receptionist with my name & happily tell her I’m in the bridal suite. She checks the system, then tells me that 1.) there is NO reservation for my name (I provided both my maiden name & then had her check my soon-to-be husband’s last name) & 2.) BOTH of the bridal suites are booked for the weekend & the guests have already checked in so those rooms are unavailable. I told her that can’t be right since my mother-in-law was just in YESTERDAY & paid in full, confirmed we had the bridal suite. Receptionist continues to tell me that there’s nothing booked. I immediately call my mother-in-law who then comes to the hotel. While she is talking to the receptionist, their system conveniently stops working. My mother-in-law then calls the manager that she talked to the day before- who THEN tells her that the room that was booked & paid for was NOT the bridal suite. The AM should NOT have lead us on to believe we had the suite. He should have been completely transparent & told us the suites were unavailable even though we had booked it clear back in October. The receptionist then checks “the OTHER SYSTEM” & then says: “oh. Theres your room. Sorry, there’s several systems.” At that point, I’m extremely upset because none of this should have happened & I inquired about just getting a refund & figuring out a different place to stay because I’m tired of the incompetence we’ve been dealing with for the last 8 months leading up to my wedding. The receptionist is then instructed by the manager on the phone to just give me the key to the Executive suite. I go up to drop my things off- as I’m already running extremely late to our pre-wedding party with family. After our wedding was done, I then call the hotel to tell them that we had decided not to stay Sunday night & to cancel the reservation that my mother-in-law had set. Receptionist tells us THERE’S NO RESERVATION for our name or the room we stayed in. I just told her to make sure the card isn’t charged for Sunday night & to “check the other system” before I hung up. Our friends told us their rooms smelled like sewage, blood was on their bed, & they witnessed the receptionist give the wrong keys to wedding guests. they walked in & there were already people sleeping on the bed. UNACCEPTABLE. I highly regret ever recommending Hotel Bothwell to my wedding guests.

We stated 1 night coming off the Katy Trail. Staff were nice. Room was clean. It's an interesting building to stay in - in a good way. The area for improvement is definitely the breakfast. Items are too limited (no hot items) and the staff didn't seem that interested in keeping the coffee stocked. If they can improve the breakfast here, it would be perfect.

Room was clean and the bed was very comfortable, but there was a strong odor of cigarette smoke throughout the hallway of the floor I was staying on. It made me nauseous. Although my room didn't have this smell, it permeated into my room from the hallway. I ended up sleeping with a window open to air the room out. I can't tell if the cigarette smell was recent from a current guest or an accumulation of odor from many guests over months and years, but it was prevalent throughout the entire floor so I am inclined to believe it was the latter. Hotel service was great and check-in and check-out process was smooth. I mentioned the foul odor to the front desk clerks and they seemed genuinely surprised by this. I didn't visit other floors during my stay, so I'm not sure if this is the case throughout the hotel, but if you are sensitive to this I would recommend staying in a room that's not on the 6th floor. Overall the stay wasn't terrible but for what I paid and based on previous reviews, I expected better.

We stayed here while riding across Missouri on the Katy Trail. The hotel is old and historic. Rooms were clean, roomy, and comfortable. Many Katy Trail riders stay here and the hotel is very accommodating to riders. There is even a bike washing station in the parking lot. We also had a great dinner in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast, however, was very minimal.

This was our first night stop on my bike tour on the Katy Trail. I used Crossroads bike touring, they chose this 1927 hotel and it was great. Nice room and location is right downtown. They stored our bikes safely. Breakfast was nothing great, but there is a good dinner across the street.

This is one great hotel. Clean and well appointed rooms, excellent drinks in the Oak Room and a fabulous dinner in the Ivory Grill. We really appreciated the staff - from the front desk staff to the bar staff to the grill staff to housekeeping. Great job guys. Thanks too to the hotel manager that we met upon our checkout. You’ve done a great job in putting together a wonderful staff.

This very nice historic hotel is such a surprise in Sedalia. This hotel is beautifully restored with all kinds of interesting architectural details. Original brass elevators, marble steps in the staircase, wonderful tile work in the restaurant. These are just a few of the interesting features. I think the ballroom is very attractive and if it were not so far away from where I live, I would hold an event there. I can see that it’s a lovely wedding venue, and I am not a fan of generic hotel ballrooms. But this one would not be generic. Our room was comfortable, really very nice. We stayed in August and the air conditioner was more than adequate. It was quite chilly and we had to turn it down. This hotel felt like a stay in Europe for the night we were there. Next time we will book two nights and stay a while in Sedalia to see nearby sites. The restaurant attached to the hotel is excellent. This hotel caters to bicyclists from the KATY Trail. That is cool. It has a bike washing station outside of the hotel in the parking lot. They allow people to park their bikes in the lobby. I thought that was a nice touch.

We were on the top floor in on of their larger rooms and the noise level from the air condition ducts were unbearable. We had a terrible night of sleeping. On top of that I forgot an item at the hotel and was told to provide a credit card number and a form for them to mail it back to me. I did and after a week still waiting the item to arrive with no answer to my emails. I hope management reads this and takes notice. Also this hotel is frequently used with bicycle riders on the Katy trail and they don't have a place to store bikes. We were told to take our bicycles to our room. Beware!
