We booked this hotel because it was close to Busch Stadium, the Arch and easy access to Metrolink. I was a bit hesitant in reading some of the reviews, but tried to draw a favorable conclusion.

My conclusion was met with good favor. I am very comfortable recommending this hotel to anyone.

The location is great and walkable (half mile or so) to a lot of fun things and essentials like a full-service supermarket. The area is safe for the times and by using some fundamental big city common sense.

This is not your run of the mill Embassy Suites. The building was something else in a former life, and our living area was huge (we had a two queen suite). The bedroom had 14’ ceilings and windows to match!

The reception was great with good snack food. I’m good with two drinks per person. It’s becoming a standard in the industry. On weekends, there will likely be a line for breakfast, but that’s because a lot of people are there and come at a similar time — especially families. If you want less congestion, come early. We didn’t experience any lines on weekdays.

The staff was very pleasant and did everything for us with a smile. Cleanliness and safety in the hotel were certainly acceptable.

So if you are on the fence with some of the reviews, go ahead and book. Sure there may be a few marks on the furniture and maybe a little freshening up is coming, but it’s still a class act in my book.

Everyone has different preferences in what they appreciate in a hotel stay. These are mine, ranked in order of my level of importance. I use a five star rating system with 5 being the best.

Clean Room: 5

Hot Water: 4

Strong water pressure: 2 (Needs improvement)

Quality Iron/Board: 3 (Cheap, Standard issue)

TV Channel Options: 5

Fridge/Microwave in Room: 5

Quality in Room Coffee: 4 (Standard Issue)

Availability of, “Quality” water: 5

Bed comfort: 5

A/C or Heat Temp Issues: 5

Quality Breakfast: 5

Quality Happy Hour: (Covid Killed it)

Overall, “Fun” factor: (Covid killed Fun!)

Staff Friendliness: 5

Parking: 4, no self parking option. Use the Valet. The public parking is sketchy.

Pool/Hot Tub/Sauna/Gym: 5 - I did not see or use it, but they do have stuff.

Price: 5

Reward Points extra benefits: 4 Gave me some water and a tiny bags of chips.

Misc bonuses: The room was very nice, but a little run down. Ceilings in my room were very high, the room was spacious. I am sure hotels are not spending a lot on upgrades right now, but my room could use a refresh.

Reggie, the Food and Beverage Manager told me he is doing his best to get the F&B portion of the hotel back to the standards that Embassy guests expect, but it is difficult with city restrictions. The breakfast that he provided during my stay was the best I have experienced since I started traveling again. I appreciate his efforts and wish more hotels had a Reggie.

I had to stay in St. Louis for a couple of nights for work and decided to stay in this Embassy Suites based on my previous experience staying at other Embassy Suites locations, and was not disappointed. The staff were all very friendly and professional: the check-in process went smoothly and everyone during the rest of my stay was welcoming. My room was decently sized and comfortable. It's clear that they took COVID precautions seriously: everyone was required to wear masks at all times and maintain physical distancing, and I saw staff sanitizing everything on a regular basis. This hotel is conveniently located right by the Convention Center and many restaurants, and the staff were good at recommending places that could do takeout or delivery. Not all hotel amenities were open due to COVID, so you need to check or ask the hotel before you arrive so you can plan accordingly.

When I think of a Hilton run hotel, I think of quality and excellent service. Unfortunately I did not get that.

The room I received had litter on the floor in different locations (an acrylic nail, a single Dorito, a hair tie, etc.) They we’re not in obvious places, but in the crack between the bed and the nightstand and also under the table. This makes me think that the employees are not cleaning the rooms as throughly as they should be.
Speaking of cleanliness, the tables for breakfast were dirty every time we went to eat. So if you go, I recommend bringing wet wipes or disinfectant towelettes to clean your table beforehand. (Unless you want to borrow the employees spray bottles which I was not brave enough to do.)
The valet parking also was not the greatest: I found several dings on my car when it was returned to me. I hate to assume it was the employees because I know there are careless people everywhere, but because of the above statements, I can’t help but assume it was.

I don’t have too many pros, unfortunately: mostly it’s in a convenient part of town in which you can see the Arch or the City Museum and the employees who checked us in and out were very kind.

I would consider staying here again, but for the price I paid and the service I got, I don’t think it’s worth it.

The cost for valet parking and inconvenience of parking in downtown STL is much worse than other cities. The room design, while large, has many shortcomings. The only closet is by the front door. The front door is a long way from the bedroom. The bathroom has no towel racks for even a hand towel, much less a bath towel. The lighting is also poor in the bathroom and throughout the room. Light bulbs were missing or not functioning. The shower door had a broken seal at the bottom of the door that looked like it had been that way for some time. The couch is uncomfortable. The room colors are depressing. The breakfast was ok although it is basically the same thing each day. The omelet station was nice. The weird part was the location of the bacon clear across the dining room handily next to the tip jar (hint, hint). The pool, hot tub, and gym were nice. It was also noisy even with occupants two rooms down the hall. The evening “reception” was a bag of pretzels and cheap beer or wine (you paid much more for anything above that). I’m usually not this critical, but definitely not up to standards.

Response from Mark Brown, General Manager at Embassy Suites by Hilton St. Louis Downtown
Responded Nov 7, 2021
Dear alcanc2021, We are disappointed to hear that your expectations were not met as providing a memorable and positive experience is very important to us and one that you should certainly expect when travelling. I would like to point out that we only have 4 suites that have the closet by the front door and am sorry that you did not enjoy that location. As you mentioned, our suites are very spacious and guests typically enjoy the logistics. It is true that almost all urban properties have a cost associated with parking as there are hard costs involved for properties to be able to provide that service. Our property is not necessarily on the higher end of that rate scale but I am sorry that this caused a burden on your visit. Regarding the other items you noted, I will be following up with our team to discuss your concerns and take appropriate actions to ensure they are properly addressed. Thanks for taking the time to provide your valued feedback and please feel free to reach out to me directly if you would like to discuss further. Kind regards, Mark Brown (314)678-2915 mark.brown@hilton.com

This stay was poor for the price. We spent nearly $400 a night for a premium suite for 4 days. They kept having communication issues and never came to clean our room even when I have requests clearly communicated in the app. I had communicated with them the day before and then again at noon the following day and they never showed up. When I reached out to find out what was going on, they said they didn't have me down and then showed up at 8:43 PM to clean our room. I had to ask for additional towels multiple times. There was dust on the walls and the cleanliness was mediocre. You are almost required to use valet unless you want to park way down the road and walk several blocks. The sewer is cleaned out every morning at 8 AM and it is loud. I rarely complain, but this should have been more of $150 night. The good - great breakfast, strong shower, decent pool area.

Marlita was the greatest! She welcomed us so warmly, answered all our questions, took care of all our requests, and made us feel at home. We would return to Embassy Suites St. Louis just to see her! Lol. She was delightful. Mark C. was also helpful and friendly, taking time to share restaurant recommendations with us. Everyone at the front desk spoke to us as we entered and exited the hotel. The staff at breakfast was also awesome, especially the ladies at the bacon/sausage station and the man who serviced the tables. So friendly! Valet service did a great job--acknowledging us as we entered and exited the hotel and delivering our car quickly. We enjoyed the accommodations, but the staff really made our stay extra special.

Our suite and bed were comfortable, and our room was clean. The free breakfast was really quite good and plentiful, and we appreciated the evening reception. One particular issue that's not the hotel's fault...our room faced Washington Ave., and the vehicles were sometimes loud. Luckily, we always travel with sound machines, which helped drown out the noise. I would recommend choosing a room away from Washington Ave. or having some sound device if you do stay on that side of the hotel.

This was our second enjoyable stay at Embassy Suites downtown St. Louis, and we would not hesitate staying there again.

We booked the Embassy Suites last minute (8pm!) after our original hotel turned out to have an awful cigarette smell. It met my expectations and more! The room was very clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. As far as location goes, it’s right next to the convention center and about 7 blocks from city museum. There are several restaurants within walking distance. We enjoyed the free breakfast which included made to order omelets that were delicious. Parking is either valet or a parking garage down the street. The garage is not in great condition and a bit sketchy but was cheaper than valet. I ended up doing valet the last night and the service was great although short staffed. We will definitely be staying at the Embassy Suites on our next trip to STL.

We are a family of five. We like staying in Embassy Suites due to their larger size rooms. The rooms at this ES are significantly larger than other ES that we’ve stayed in. There are many dining options close by. The only downside is the $35 nightly fee for parking. But that’s typical for downtown hotels.
