My husband and I stayed Friday through Sunday. I booked this hotel because it was the most affordable at the time. I did read a lot of reviews prior which concerned me due to some reporting issues with cleanliness and that the area was sketchy. We arrived Friday early but spent time at the Science museum (which is free) to kill time because check in isn’t until 3pm and checking in early is a $25 fee. We arrived around 430pm and were promptly checked in by Kevin. We were supposed to stay in room 305 but our room keys would not work and Missy quickly changed us to room 310 after reporting that that room continually has that issue. The room was clean and smelled fine. The hotel is in an ok area, not somewhere you would wander. Anywhere in St. Louis you are at risk of having your car broken into and signs are posted all over the city regarding this so please make sure no belongings are left in the car (even phone chargers). We had no issues with our room other than the next day the room key wouldn’t work and we were told they accidentally forgot the additional day, but it was fixed in under 2 minutes. Check out was a breeze, you do have to check out before 11am or it is a $25 fee. A lot of people were there for the cardinals game, but it was quiet at night and we slept well. We never ate breakfast there so I cannot speak to that. Theirs no longer a pool. Would recommend for those looking for somewhere clean to sleep while they enjoy the city. It doesn’t have the extra amenities the other hotels do downtown, but you get what you pay for. All staff was very helpful and courteous.

Good location.Non smoking room smelled like an ashtray that's why 2* only. Friendly staff. Cleaning up all the corners may help with rating. Little trashy outside near entrance cleaningnes not priority here.

(4/13/2019) We made a reservation to stay at Hotel Avyan for our visit to St Louis for the Taco and Tequila Crawl we attended. Two days before the event I called to make sure I had a reservation there and to discuss check in options. I explained that our event started at 11am and that I could see that check in time was 3pm. The lady on the phone told me I could check in at 10am but that it would cost an additional $25. I explained that I didn't need IN the room but rather was simply wondering if I could check in and get my keys and leave my bags in my car so I didn't have to tipsy check in later. I asked if I could do that for no additional charge since I wouldn't be in the room until late that night and she told me absolutely I could do that. She said just let the front desk staff know what I shared with her and that they would get me all set up. WRONG. Upon arriving I was greeted by a woman and upon explaining what I had discussed with a staff member was very RUDELY treated. She said no one would say that and "WHO did you talk to that would say that?" And "NO. That I HAD to pay the $25 to get the room key early." So I left. Annoyed by how rudely she was treating me. So we sat in the parking lot waiting for our Uber to pick us up and she went outside to smoke and was icing us dirty looks the entire time she was out there. It was honestly hilarious but also completely unprofessional. We came back that night to check in for real and there was such a sweet and helpful woman working the front counter. She got us all set up and into our room in no time. The room was nice. Everything was clean and worked for our over night needs. (4/14/2019) upon waking up I walked downstairs to get a coffee because the rest of my room was still sleeping. She handed me a menu and told me I could order food from the top list and that they would make it for me. I looked but everything on the top list was wheat or flour products (pancakes, biscuits, breakfast sandwich, ect) and because I have a gluten allergy simply asked if I could order from the À la cart menu. I was informed that I could not do that. So I simply ordered my coffee and was surprised to hear I owed $1.95 for the tiniest cup of coffee (like, traditional cheap hotel coffee) so I paid it and as I was waiting for them to make it for me another man ordered food and the young woman working the register asked him if he had "a complimentary breakfast voucher?" He said "no?" And then an older woman behind the counter says "DONT ASK THEM THAT!" so I thought that was odd. Like you COULD get a complimentary continental breakfast if you knew to ask for it. It wouldn't of mattered to me since I couldn't order anything without gluten from their menu. Overall the hotel its self was exactly what you would expect for the price but it gets low star reviews bc of how poorly I was treated during check in and how unaccommodating they were when I tried to order a bite (that was listed on their menu) to eat ‍ You should also know the area isn't the best. They had a robbery in January of this year and again in 2017. The businesses surrounding the hotel have bullet proof glass separating attendants and customers. I watched a drug exchange happen between two men while waiting for my Uber. Once we were inside our room we felt safe but I definitely didn't feel safe outside. You could have an overall better experience another place for $20 more. I highly recommend you do that.

I was bery surprised rather pleasantly about this hotel. I read reviews prior to staying there and some were good and some were not so good. I experienced a great visit and stay at this hotel. The staff was very welcoming, efficient and cordial. The room was wonderful, clean and well decorated. My only issue is there weren't enough hangers in the room. other than that I enjoyed my stay and will stay there again. I also highly recommend this hotel for the value, proximity to venues and peacefulness.

I'm sorry, I'm not used to write bad feedback, but I've never been treated like this before. I've got some credit card problems during my stay and they nearly called the Police, saying I was going to leave without paying my bill and so on!! The Amministrative Director (I think she is) has been greatly rough dialing with me and finally asked me for my passport and closed it in a room without leaving the keys to the operating personnel... I couldn't believe it, I've never lived such hard times, 8000 km from home!! I'm sorry for the rest of the personnel that's been nice and kind with me, but I can't give a good feedback.
