I've stayed in similar athletic or social clubs as a guest of a member so I was delighted to learn that Missouri Athletic Club was available as a hotel to the general public. The rate was very good for a downtown hotel. Lots (including Busch Stadium) within walking distance. Some may not like the club atmosphere or the dress code... More

We stayed here to go to some baseball games. It's not a bad walk even at night. Several things to keep in mind when staying here. 1. It is an OLD building. It's not rundown in fact it was extremely clean. It's more historical even down to the step up to enter the bathroom, the radiators, and the antique doorknob... More

Vintage hotel with cute rooms. We give it a three because of the thin walls and the 4pm check in time. Other than that it was a perfect spot for our overnight stay. Parking was conveniently placed across the street in a garage. Easy walk to and from Busch Stadium too. I, personally, would stay here again because it was... More

Enjoyable comfortable stay in an older hotel. Two 30-something guys shared a room to attend a ballgame. My roommate took the king bed, I crashed on the couch. Couch appeared like it should have pulled out but we couldn't get it too. Would stay here again. Not a typical chain experience. Classy, old school charm, clean, respectful.

The MAC is a very old, but wonderfully vintage property. The restaurants are tasty, the ambiance has the "old money" sort of feel, and the staff is extremely friendly. There are many floors of workout facilities, pool, squash, meeting rooms, etc. Lots to see and do, all under one roof.

Was like stepping back into the 30/40s what a fantastic place wood paneling everywhere ornate decoration . A dress code and a great feature i liked was no mobile phones/laptops etc in the dining area/bar was so nice to have a meal without hearing ring tones or somebody telling everybody there life details etc an idea i think should be... Unfortunate events happened right from pulling into the side parking lot of this hotel. We pulled in and parked in the lot, went to the front desk and checked in. It's a lovely old hotel with gorgeous dark wood paneling throughout the lobby and adjacent rooms. Front desk staff was friendly and fast however when we asked where we were... More

My wife and I spent a night at the MAC before driving off in search of Lincoln's legacy sites in Illinois. This hotel hearkens back to an older time, but it was quite adequate for our short stay. Our beds were fine, topped with a choice of pillows. The bathroom shows its age, but again it was adequate. A plaque... More

The first thing you notice is the beautiful original woodwork in the lobby. There is a full floor devoted to work out and athletics. $12 for daily use. The bar has good food and a good selection of whiskey. There is a very respectable cigar selection and you can smoke in the bar. Rooms are simple and comfortable. Huge closet.... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Missouri Athletic Club Downtown, is a unique, yet classic fixture of St. Louis' historic Washington Avenue since 1904. Original mahogany wood, rich leather, and lavish hand carved detailing, lay the ambiance of this one of a kind experience. Both the Jack Buck Grill and Sportman's Club, each house their own bar atmosphere, and are known across Missouri as the best in the business for top-notch American cuisine from Chef Barton Phillips. One of the sole remaining establishments in St. Louis where cigars can both be purchased and enjoyed in traditional luxury club atmosphere, the experience is one-of-a-kind, the Art Gallery on the Lobby level is breathtaking, and the facilities are extensive to say the least. Best of all, you don't have to be a member to stay overnight in one of our 74 guest rooms and suites, and take advantage of our prime downtown location! Within walking distance to Busch Stadium, the Edward Jones Dome, St. Louis Gateway Arch, and the banks of the Mississippi River, and easily accessible to several major highways and St. Louis' own Metro Link commuter system. ... more   less
