It was 105 degrees when we pulled into St. Louis, our 3rd stop on a cross-country trip. So sadly, we were not able to explore the area much at all, as the hotel is situated not far from Wash U in an area that seems really interesting. Check-in was a breeze, staff wore face masks, our room was quiet, clean, nicely decorated, good bathroom, comfortable bed. There is lots of moon & space decor throughout the hotel, Jetson-esque furnishings, definitely a theme going on. The restaurant was not open due to lack of staff, but there was 1 chef working and we ultimately decided to eat in the (enclosed) rooftop bar (it was a Monday, many places were closed). The bar staff could not have been nicer, the drinks were good, food was .. pretty good and definitely acceptable for a nosh-type dinner.…
We are small touring party with many VIP needs. While the Moonrise may not be the fanciest hotel in town, it is the most comfortable, warm and attentive to its VIP guests needs. The general manager, Clay, went above and beyond to accomodate us at almost zero notice. Their team came together to meet our every need like a well oiled machine. Chef, Tasha, Jasmine and Cedarius made us feel like we were in their own home at the Eclipse restaurant. The food was delicious with a Caribbean theme we weren’t expecting in St. Louis. The cocktails were amazing! Clay not only worked diligently to make our client and stay comfortable, but he also acted as an amabassador for other vendors and services that made our stay more enjoyable. His discretion and care was much appreciated. While I don’t immediately associate St. Louis with hospitality, I have to say we enjoyed the five star white glove treatment we received at the Moonrise Hotel. Certainly the are other five star hotels in St. Louis, none offered a better location for walking, restaurants and a feeling of safety.…
We'd heard about the Moonrise from friends who stayed at the hotel several years ago and were looking forward to our stay. Sadly, we couldn't wait to check out soon after we arrived. On first glance, the hotel appeals with quirky design features and a good location on the Delmar Loop. However, look a little deeper and that's where it all ends. Principally, the hotel suffers from poor management. The staff is at a loss when it comes to basic information about the hotel. When we asked for a room on the quiet side of the hotel we were assigned a room facing a noisy club venue. Simple requests for additional pillows were forgotten and required three reminders. When I asked if we could swap out artificial fill pillows with feather pillows, no one knew whether or not the hotel had feather pillows. They didn't. Worst of,all the beds are lumpy and cave in at the center. It's next to impossible to get a comfortable night's sleep. When I asked if there might be a room with a firmer bed, my request was brushed off by a "manager" with a curt "no, they're all like that." Well, If they're all like that, perhaps they might consider making some improvements. When we visited the rooftop bar we were turned back at the door and told by a bouncer that the bar had "run out of glasses." When we spoke with a staff member about our concerns, she offered to communicate our comments to management and said they would offer us some kind of gift card toward breakfast or dinner. Nothing ever came of it. We travel frequently and this was by far the worst hotel experiences we've ever had. Certainly not worth the daily rate for a room here. Look elsewhere when looking for accommodations in St. Louis!…
First, I have stayed here off and on since it's opening and always enjoyed it. This trip when we tried to get something to eat, We were told the kitchen was down and no one had any info on it's opening. I asked about roomservice since there was a dirty room service tray next to our room but that was "forgotten". I emailed the manager and his response was " We were open for breakfast and unfortunately had to close the kitchen but when I left this evening I was informed it should be back open at 6:30am tomorrow for breakfast but not sure yet about dinner service. Once I have more information I will follow up with you." I never heard from him and as far as I know when we checked out two days later the restaurant was still closed even though there was another dirty room service tray in the hall. Next trip I guess it's the Chase Park Plaza for us. So sad…
Our daughter was running a race at Washington University, and this turned how to be a perfect overnight spot for my wife and myself. The hotel has a very cool funky vibe to it. This is not your cookie cutter courtyard hotel. The decor within the lobby, hallways, and rooms, work perfectly. The beds are very comfortable. Room 524, even surprised us when we shut off the lights, and had an illuminated sky over our bed, very cool! The rooftop bar was an added perk, a beautiful night, were we able to enjoy the skylight and have a couple of cocktails. The strip along Delmar, offers so much for you to do, a very safe walk up and down the street. We were greeted at the front desk, by Justin and Clay. They both carried a very friendly low-key Personna that fit the mood of the hotel. Clay sort of became our go to guy for advice on the area etc. and I even called him when I returned home to thank him for everything. Despite the rooftop bar on the top floor that is open to public, they do not have access to the floors where guest sleep. There is plenty of free parking in back of the hotel. I really wish we had more time to roam around the hotel a little bit more to find out all of its nooks and crannies, but this was a wonderful stay, but maybe not for the stuffed shirts. Kudos to management, for putting together a hotel that doesn’t feel like every other hotel.…
This is one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Couldn't wait to check out! My wife and I are ardent travelers, having been all over the world. So we know what to expect and not...This one is pretty bad...on so many levels. First, it is extremely unprofessionally managed. The staff seems not like true hotel-trained staff, but instead like a bunch of trainees, trying to figure out what to do to run a hotel. None of the staff wear uniforms of any kind, so all of them...from the Front Desk to Housekeeping... appear in their own clothes, often dirty and/or unkempt-looking, with hoodies, and fleeces of their own selections. Frankly, you can't tell who is even running the place. Second, the design is so preposterous, as to be funny. It is gimmicky in its concept of "moonrise..." with crazy decor and lights (neon ones on staircases). It doesn't work. The dark, gloomy hallways open into rooms that have mixed together varying styles. Ridiculous in concept and execution. Third, Housekeeping is terrible. Their concept of "making up the room" is to pull back the top sheet and hastily stack the pillows. The bottom sheets are barely tucked in and fully crumpled after a night's stay. Not appealing to jump back into bed. I also found someone else's dirty sock under the desk...ugh! Whoever runs this place should turn to a proper hotel mgt company to run the place if it has a hope of being appealing, plus it needs a thorough cleaning and a complete redo of its design!…
To be fair, my first impression when entering the hotel was "who in heavens name designed this hotel and what was he on..." yet after 3 nights my resolution is- I will return. Situated in a fantastic spot, near all the right cafe's, bars, walking distance to the park and museums this hotel has the MOST friendly staff I have met in a long time. Great terrace bar upstairs, large rooms and decent amenities.
This trip was great! Boo and I found the room adorable and charming. We enjoyed the service at the front desk but in the morning we decided to order room service and was gravely disappointed in the food and the service. We ordered omelettes that were terrible and good spicy potatoes. We ordered two coffees and got one and asked twice for cream but still got none. It wasn’t good. Although we liked the hotel and parking arrangements, we probably won’t be returning.
Pros: great location within walking distance to many restaurants and shops. Parking is super easy in a large lot behind the hotel. We actually heard one guy complaining that they had to park their own cars (currently no valet) but it's like a hundred feet away! *eye roll* the hotel itself is beautiful! The moon theme was really cool and we loved the colors in our room. The room itself was a decent size and the bed was comfortable. The shower has a rainfall shower head which some people don't like but we didn't mind it. They have awesome Aveda products and provide a soft robe and towels. The manager placed us in a room on the 7th floor with a view of the Arch prior to our arrival because we were there for my husband's birthday. We are gold status members through a travel site which allows us to get an upgrade but they did not upgrade our room. Still, the king size regular room was comfortable. With our gold status we received a $16 credit for food and drinks so we used it at the upstairs bar. It was too cold to sit outside but the bar inside is nice. Would be a neat place to go in the warmer months! You need your key card to go up in the elevator which was a nice security feature. We did not interact with the employees very much but they were mostly friendly when we did. The room was also very clean, even behind the TV and other furniture. The hotel was quiet except for a few rude people who kept slamming their doors (another reason we really wanted the top floor). Cons: as mentioned, the manager reserved a specific room for us way before our arrival. It was not clean when we arrived (we were 30 min early) and we said we had no problem waiting but one of the male employees still tried to put us in a room on the fourth floor. After we realized what they had done we went back to the front desk to change it back to the room the manager reserved for us. They then tried to put us on the 7th Floor facing away from the arch. Since we did not get an upgraded room even though we are supposed to with our gold status membership, we at least wanted the room with the best view. After some time and mentioning again that we will wait for it to be clean they gave us the room the manager reserved for us. The male employee had a bad attitude and we were not trying to be difficult but we were looking forward to the reserved room. It WAS a great view, even though the Arch is quite far away, and worth the hassle. The only other "flaw" was that housekeeping never took away our used washcloths, we actually found the line of them atop the shower amusing. And they only restocked the toiletries some of the days. I would have liked the makeup removers every day, etc. Also, the hotel has a strict no smoking policy. I had to call front desk because our entire floor reeked of marijuana one night. They said they'd send someone up but I'm not sure if they ever did. Those people should have been kicked out (see picture)! The area seemed safe enough even tho a few homeless people asked us for money. There's an Asian market a couple blocks down that has a great selection as well! Despite some of the negatives I would still recommend this hotel.…
My husband & I stayed at the Moonrise when In opened in 2009 and it was fabulous then and even more fantastic now. There were some similar paintings and lighted staircases, so we recreated our first experience there. Anyhow, the check in experience was smooth and we were impressed by the hospitality and attention to detail. The room was good. We had an awkward view of just over the roof of where you drive up to the check in. But otherwise, we could see Delmar nicely. I picked this hotel because I had an event at Forest Park and it was very conveniently located. I also explored other restaurants & businesses (hello Pin-Up Bowl) on Delmar. Overall this was a great experience!
