An Art Deco masterpiece in the heart of downtown, the Hotel Phillips is a popular choice with guests who appreciate the charm and character of a grand and historic hotel. The hotel's address was once occupied by a haberdashery operated by President Harry S. Truman and his brother. Today, the hotel's top floor suite is named in his honor. Built in the 1930's, this 20-story luxury hotel, a national landmark, continues to exude all the elegance of the period with modern amenities. Many of the original details remain, including the walnut paneling, intricate metalwork, 20-story mail chute, Art Deco light fixtures and a gilded winged statue of the goddess Dawn. The 216 rooms are cozy, characteristic of a historic hotel, and comfortable, with modern amenities such as complimentary WiFi, multiple charging outlets, flat screen TVs, plump duvets, high-end linens, C.O Bigelow bath products and Keurig coffee.

We parked 2 cars using the valet parking at Hotel Phillips. The hotel policy is to charge the $30 valet fee to the guests hotel room. However, a valet told a person in our party that it would be $30 for his car. Our valet did not mention the fee. I approached the front desk and asked the woman behind the counter what the policy was and she said it would be on our bill and that a valet should not be collecting the fee. When I told her the situation, she appeared to do nothing about it. I wonder how often they get away with this scam! Beware of the valets at this hotel!!’

Hotel's Favorite
I had read some of the previous reviews and I will not say they are not true, but I can say that my stay was nothing short of great. I have a gold status with Hilton hotels so when I was going to KC for a wedding and this was the hotel choice for the guests I was very happy. Upon check-in the front desk was great. The hotel is something that I think is very cool being an older building that has been upgraded to be a hotel. My room as perfect for what I needed. One king bed and open space with a desk and plenty of room to not feel cramped. The bathroom was great and had all that I needed. The hotel has a deal with a gym that is just around the corner near the grocery store. I went there and it was great! Nice bar/restaurant below the lobby that anyone would enjoy. If I go back to downtown KC, this is where I would stay.

Such a lovely hotel with beautiful appointments and very comfortable bed in the suite we chose. The restaurant food was great and and the wine selection excellent. Valet service is available and extremely easy to use. .

As many people have said this may have been a nice hotel at one time but, It is clear that no effort has been made to maintain the rooms since the renovation. Save your money and stay somewhere else. Stay somewhere else!!! The hotel was dark and felt very creepy. We were in town for a volleyball tournament at the Convention Center and Hy-vee arena which made this hotel a great location and that where the positives stop. We used the valet service and it was absolutely terrible, we had to get our vehicle two different times as the valet was under staffed and this was not Covid related, there were 10 people waiting for cars for over 30 mins on Saturday morning and there was only 1 person at the valet stand @ 7:00 am, so DO NOT USE THE VALET SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. The rooms are small and uncomfortable our bathroom had been somewhat cleaned the toilet was dirty and the mirror had toothpaste splatter on it and was dusty, we had to ask for more shampoo at the front desk and they handed us to half empty bottle so I can only imagine what they are leaving in the rooms. hot water did not heat up. bed was uncomfortable, carpet was filthy! No microwave or mini fridge. Tiny ice machines on odd floor only that barley worked. There was cracked plaster, chipped paint, and several other thing that made this hotel feel like a dive roadside motel on the outskirts of town and not a 4 star hotel in the heart of downtown. The only nice thing about the hotel is it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the lobby was cool architecturally speaking

We used to really like Hotel Phillips so we booked it instead of The Hotel Kansas City a block away which was hosting our corporate function. To illicit charm, older downtown hotels must have over the top service- this one does not. Twice I called down in advance to get our car brought around and twice I ended up just asking for the keys and getting the car myself. There are many other options in downtown Kansas City, my recommendation is you try one of them.
