This is an older hotel built back in the early 1970’s. Probably used to be quite a grand hotel back in the day. The front desk staff provided an efficient and quick check in, but were not particularly friendly. My guest room on the 15th floor looked out at the downtown which was quite beautiful after dark. The bed was very comfortable and I slept well. The hotel has a very nice fitness center and an outdoor swimming pool. Be sure and catch a free ride on the RideKC Streetcar to downtown across the street at Union Station.

Overnight trip with our 3 year old grandson. The Westin is the perfect location. We walked to the aquarium and lunch at Fritz. Our grandson loved the glass elevator and the view from our corner room. The room itself had a nice TV and was clean. We would definitely stay here again.

Cannot say enough about the location. Right across from Union Station and connected with skyways to it and other places like the aquarium And Legoland. Directly across the street from the WWI memorial and museum, which is a must see. But rooms were adequate sized and everyone was pleasant on staff.

Well, to say this hotel is past its prime would be an understatement. It looks okay in photos but really, I would not stay here again. They are in dire need of a major remodel which I doubt would financially make sense. This was built to be a very grand contemporary hotel for the Hallmark Company when greeting cards were a huge thing. So, think early 1970s. It's in a version of LA's Century City that's getting a little tired. The self-parking entrance is being redone so you have to park in the mall next door then try to figure out where the hotel entrance is. This took us about 30 minutes of driving around a claustrophobic garage and would have taken the rest of my life if not for a very kind security guard who had us follow him to the parking area on the ground floor. There is NO signage for self-parking. Once you get into the hotel, it doesn't get much better. This was built to be very fancy and one-of-a-kind but it is really, really dated. The front desk staff was exceptionally friendly so I appreciate that. We were upgraded to a corner suite with a fantastic city skyline view. ALAS, it also overlooks KC's massive rail yards. Which are very busy night and day and you can HEAR the trains through the old sliding doors which are not sealed. It was a great view but we knew we'd get no sleep. So we were moved to a lesser suite facing some nondescript, empty 70s office buildings which was large but just as oddly shaped. However, that wasn't the problem. It was the absolutely filthy, dirty carpet and furniture that I couldn't get past. I mean, just gross. We'd already changed rooms once so there was no point to complain. I think they are all in equally bad shape. We got out and went to dinner elsewhere as quickly as possible. In the morning, we went to the Starbucks in the mall next door for a cheap, fast breakfast and checked out asap. What's interesting about this hotel is it was built to be a showpiece and now is just a dated footnote to what used to be a very influential company. Sad but fascinating. They need to spend a lot of money to make this hotel work again and I don't see any reason for that to happen. Only stay here if you want to spend a night in bizarre, fantastically faded time warp.

This hotel was very nice. The staff was very nice and extremely quick with requests. The pool was my favorite part. Most hotel pools these days are shallow only. This pool had a deep end that was roped off for adults to do laps- it was great! I stayed with my dogs and they put us in a room with a balcony that led right to a grassy area, which was very convenient. I didn’t eat at the restaurant in the hotel, but the concierge gave me a recommendation for a very yummy German spot around the corner. I only stayed one night, but I had a great time in Kansas City because of the hotel.

At check in, I asked if my room would be at a quiet end of the hallway...the employee that was doing the check-in, worked some magic (and did some joking around since it was Folk Alliance weekend and some music floors can be pretty noisy) and we had a lovely room with a great view of Union Station. Thanks Westin for another great visit! The only downfall was that their coffee shop was closed and so if you just wanted a light snack for breakfast and some chai, you had to order the entire buffet breakfast...and coffee only. No thanks. Good thing there is a Starbucks in Crown Center. Easy walk.

Restaurant is usually closed and forced to eat in crowded bar avenue with limited menu. Few decent walkable restaurants near hotel. Covid cancelled any room service; but we were asked to share a table with another couple in bar area for breakfast? Union Station has two decent restaurants but nothing else nearby hotel. Food court in adjoining shopping mall is not the answer,

Our family stayed at the Westin last month for one night and enjoyed our stay. Our niece is getting married in July and reserved a block of rooms at the Westin for out-of-town guests. She was given a reduced rate for the block of rooms. The only way to get this discount is to call the hotel to make the reservation. After calling the hotel two other times to make the reservation I had to hang up after being on hold for 10 minutes because I had no more time to wait on hold. Today I decided to try again. After being on hold for almost 20 minutes, I was disconnected. Frustrating and unprofessional on the part of the Westin. I guess the Westin does not need or want any more guests.

Even though the time for this recent short stay went by so fast, it was a rather sweet stay in a Garden suite and a generous complimentary adjoining king bedroom. I invited a friend to stay and sleep in the king bedroom , and that worked out well because when I first entered the Garden suite and the bedroom, it looked very large for one person although some travelers had accounts of doing ok with both rooms by themselves. Everything was great about the stay as usual except for such negatives like some scattered crumb debris on the hallway carpet(s), I did not like the look of the light fixtures in the suite’s hallway to the adjoining king room and the one on the ceiling over the lounge area in the Garden suite. There was dried spilled sticky residue on the built in chest, a wooden bottom of a drawer of that chest permanently pulled back with a gap showing ( the structure of that whole chest may need to be repaired or rebuilt), even though the Murphy bed was fine to sleep on, sturdy and not uncomfortable, but there were screws missing in the hinges on the wood panel behind the top of the bed, and there were some small debris, scattered about and stuck to the carpet along with small stains in front of the sofa. The Garden Suite was not ready until after the king bedroom and I remember when we got into the king bedroom, we could hear a vacuum running next door. When the room was ready and I entered the hallway to open the door, I saw a stack of chairs in the hallway near the outside door of the corner room. I don’t know if there were previous guests in the Garden suite who were family, work colleagues, or friends who had some kind of gathering party, made a mess while eating, and then some of the occupants stayed over until checkout time. Anyway, it seemed like housekeeping cleaned up what they could quickly by a little after 4:00pm as they did. Even though they could have done a little better, I understand if the previous guests left an expansive mess and if there were in fact a shortage of housekeeping workers to meet the demand of getting rooms cleaned up and ready. Besides that, the king room and everything was excellent. The views out of each set of windows were incredible and I had eventually forgotten about the leftover unvacuumed areas of debris and relaxed in that room with no problems.

Here for two nights and the hotel only cleans every third day so no coffee or tea replenished, dirty garbage cans, wet towels for us. Nowhere does it state they have no service. Hotel shop closes early so no access to snacks or sodas. Rooms are standard, nothing special, definitely not worth the rates. I’d look elsewhere.
