We were welcomed by everyone in the hotel. The front desk manager was delightful and went out of his way to get my wife some tea. It is hard to find anyone who takes pride in their job anymore. This was a beautiful hotel and overlooked the plaza lights. I would stay here for any other visit to Kansas City.
I just love this hotel. The service is impeccable from the moment you arrive at the front door until you (sadly) leave. The restaurant/ bar on the ground level is wonderful but the hotel is also within walking distance to many other restaurants. We arrived to a jazz band playing on the front lawn. This place is a classic. Do yourself a favor and stay here!
It was our 54th wedding anniversary, and our time at the Raphael couldn't have been more wonderful. Rarely in this day and age does one get service over and above the norm, but here, the service was truly spectacular. I made a reservation ahead at Chaz (and I will explain this pleasure under the restaurant review), but I had an idea to make our stay special for my husband. I wrote an email regarding it, and the new General Manager (John Armstrong) followed up with a phone call and then another email to tell me everything I had requested was all set. Not only that, but he seemed truly excited about making our anniversary memorable. He put a bottle of wine and nice note in our room which had a separate living room. He walked us down to Chaz and made sure we were properly seated at a table he had personally selected. He came by and chatted during the meal. I can't say enough about how special we felt, and how magical the evening truly was in every way. I have been to high end places in the U.S. and around the world, and a few have flopped miserably for special occasions. Not here! Kudos to the Raphael. Kudos to John. In this world, there still exists a place who truly cares and goes out of their way. By the way, the valet staff is amazingly efficient and friendly, and your car is parked safely. Another perk.…
The Raphael Hotel in the Country Club Plaza area of downtown is a throw-back to the old-style grandeur of hotels. The rooms are fairly large; our room had a bedroom and living area. The service is outstanding. The staff is very professional and accommodating. The hotel is across the street from the Country Club Plaza which is a shopping center. There are several expensive restaurants and stores at the Plaza, as well as every day restaurants. The Raphael Hotel has a parking garage for its guests. There are several attractions in the area. The room rates are higher than the chain hotels but worth it. By the way, the Raphael Hotel is part of the Autograph Collection by Marriott, a luxury group of hotels.
We only stayed here for a single night, but it was a wonderful hotel. The staff is the factor that put it above. It’s also well situated toward several sites around the city. We really can’t think of another hotel that we would recommend above this one in Kansas City. We wish we would have stayed another night or two, but still appreciated our time.
Excellent service and wonderful staff! Outstanding location across from shops and dozen restaurants. It is an older hotel, consider to have more character with updated amenities. Not a sleek modern hotel but the upkeep of the hotel was done well. I like and accustomed to city noise probably why they leave ear plug in the rooms for guest. Overall great stay! The restaurant and bar staff are top notch - outstanding experience!
What a quaint, boutique hotel. I stayed here on a business trip. My room was spacious, clean and had nice amenities (robes, Kurig, slippers, etc.). The hotel staff were super nice. The restaurant is quite good for breakfast and the wait staff was amazing. I would absolutely stay here again.
Everything about our stay here was lovely! The hotel itself is beautiful, our room was clean and had a nice view of the plaza. We ate breakfast two mornings at the on-site restaurant, Chaz, and it was delicious. Servers and chef were great with an allergy within our party. The location was perfect for shopping/dining at the Plaza and we were able to walk to everything we needed. The icing on the cake was the exceptional service provided by everyone we encountered…front desk, bell staff, valet attendants. Everyone went out of their way with a smile to make our stay everything we could have wanted…would highly recommend this boutique gem!
I've been coming to KC about every other year or so, for approximately 20 years, for work. I almost always stay at The Raphael Hotel. PROS - The hotel has that unique, kind-of-eccentric feel to it that I've found in some Autograph hotels. It has a personality, and feels somewhat European - Great location. There are shops, restaurants, museums, and beautiful houses within walking distance - Friendly staff. Tracee, a front desk agent, was helpful. David has been helping me with my bags for 17 years, and I understand that Bob has also been there that long. - I collected Bonvoy points - I received a complimentary upgrade to a suite. I'd requested a quiet room via the chat function, and they assigned me a room at the end of the hallway - They recycle, and have moved away from small plastic bottles to large refillable bottles - Pretty views from the top floors - I always have a drink and its charmingly-named neighborhood restaurant/bar, Chaz. It's quirky, like the rest of the property. Last time, a guy sat at the bar with his dog. This time, they had a musical duo (two older gentleman). Live music in a small setting can sometimes be annoying, but these guys were enjoyable, and the room was into it - The basic five requirements were met: The room was clean. It was dark at night. I could control the temperature. It was quiet. The bed had a top sheet. CONS - While Chaz has a certain je ne sais quoi at night, it's a little dreary at breakfast time…
Good location, nice rooms, small "European-stlyle" feel to it. But could improve on some things. Doorman service is weak so be prepared to schlep your own bags. Parking is limited and can be a hassle and sometimes involves an outside walk in bad water. And pay attention to which room you are assigned -- they are not all created equal (particularly watch out for the lower level rooms which face onto the busy entry driveway -- and have NO elevator service). Beds good and shower good, though. Recommended with modest reservations.
