My Go-To Hotel in Kansas City - InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza
When I'm traveling to KC, I always stay at the InterContinental KC at the Plaza! The location is convenient to so many restaurants, the rooms are clean and spacious and the restaurant/bar in the lobby (American Slang) is a great place to wind down at the end of a long day. Definitely recommend the hotel and the friendly staff!
We appreciate you taking the time to give us such a wonderful review. We are pleased to be your"go-to" hotel! Thank you for sharing and we look forward to serving you again the next time you are in Kansas City. Safe Travels

    Was Alright.
My husband and I recently stayed a long weekend for our 10th anniversary. I booked this based on the view, price and reviews. The short of it: this was a nice looking hotel with elegance but way over priced food and drinks Cons: let’s start with check in! The line was very long and slow. The food menu is very limited, we both ordered 10oz steak. My steak was tiny. Neither had any flavor and only came with fries. For $36 I was very annoyed. A Corona was $9 and mojito was $16 and it wasn’t good. There was some room party or something next to us snd they were loud And made the whole hallway and our room smell like weed. The bed was hard, pillows were flat and no extra blanket. Also we paid for a room with a view, we basically looked straight at the Raphael hotel so there wasn’t that much of a view. Also I was annoyed that during check in, the person checking us in didn’t tell us about the live band or the specials going on for Valentine’s Day. We would have really enjoyed that. But since we park on the floor our room was on, we never saw a need to go downstairs, which was where the live band was. Pros: it was very elegant and clean around the hotel. Our room was very spacious. The TV was much larger than most hotels we have stayed in. The lightening in the bathroom was perfect for putting on my makeup and just overall in general. Most hotel bathrooms are dim. We were not bugged every morning by housekeeping even though we were staying multiple nights. We have experienced that at other hotels. There were plenty of towels in the restroom. The Keurig was very nice to have. Quick and easy and the selection of coffee And tea was perfect! Things Covid changed: no room service. I was sooooo looking forward to ordering breakfast so that was a big bummer. And no gift shop. I actually needed that shop because I had forgotten my tooth brush and some toiletries. Stupid Covid-19! Overall I would stay again. But I wouldn’t eat there and I would ask about entertainment.
Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts on your stay, we truly appreciate it. We do apologize for the issues with your food and the lack of information from the front desk at check-in. We will be sure to rectify these issues so your next stay exceeds your expectations. Thank you again and we hope to have the opportunity to serve you again soon. -Jeff Keeley, General Manager

    STAY HERE!
Location: Excellent. Everything in the Plaza is within a block away. Food: There's a restaurant in the hotel however we (my brother and I) decided to walk around the Plaza and eat at one of the local restaurants. There are many of them and all are very good! Room: Our room was at a reasonable price. We had a room with two queen beds. What a great night sleep! Very comfy and very quiet. Our room overlooked the Plaza side so at night, we could see all the lights that are strung, outlining all of the buildings. It's a beautiful sight! Service: I made our reservations on line and then about 4 hours later, received an email for a 25% off rate coupon. I printed it out and brought it with me. Even though the coupon apparently had to be used at the time of making a reservation using its link, they gave me the 25% off. I was very pleased! IHG Membership bonus: If you aren't an IHG member, join. One of the perks for us was an early evening happy hour (finger foods and open bar) in a special room on the 11th floor. Later on beginning around 7:00, there was a dessert buffet we could also go to. How wonderful was that!!! Service: Easy and friendly check in. Parking: On site; I believe if you park your car yourself vs. valet parking, it's $18. Not bad compared to other places. Overall, this is a lovely hotel. Very nice atmosphere and the location is excellent. I highly recommend it.
Dear ToastAloha, Thank you for the comprehensive review of your experience at the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza. It sounds like this was your first visit to the hotel, and we’re glad you chose to stay here. The Country Club Plaza has been Kansas City’s Crown Jewel for almost 100 years and with 15 square blocks of shops, restaurant and entertainment venues, it offers something for everyone regardless of age. With the hotel in the heart of the Plaza, it’s very easy to explore all the Plaza has to offer. You experienced first hand why the concierge level is so popular with all the value adds, especially considering that all the food and beverage items served in the Concierge’s Lounge are complimentary. We’ll let our team know how much you enjoyed their service. Please know we appreciate your recommendation of the hotel to other travelers, and we look forward to welcoming you back as a returning guest! Sincerely, Don Breckenridge General Manager

BEWARE!!!! HOT SPOT FOR CAR THEFT (INSIDE JOB) AND THE WORST HOTEL I'VE EVER STAYED AT. Where to begin...well first off I work for the Kansas City Royals and worked a game this past weekend. I decided to stay at this hotel after with my boyfriend for our anniversary... what we thought was a 4-star hotel on Google turned out to be a nightmare!!! When we first checked in nobody was able to assist us... and several other guests were outside waiting in cars to be served. This hotel claims they have valet service but it is very sketchy and nonchalant....The first red flag at check-in was a group of older white women complaining about their stay and asking to speak with a manager as soon as we arrived...(I later ran into one of the women on the elevator and she told me this hotel has changed drastically and that she had sick relatives (the only reason she was staying there) and the hotel was making her stay very difficult...Upon check-in, we also found out we were DOUBLE CHARGED and given the wrong booking info(STILL WAITING FOR THE MANAGER MICHELLE KENDRICK & GM JEFF KEELEY TO REIMBURSE AND CORRECT THIS BUT THEYRE PLAYING PHONE TAG, UN-HELPFUL AND VERY UNPROFESSIONAL). Shortly after this, we had to change rooms because the 1st room they gave us was not only dirty, there was unkept carpet and scary out-of-the-ordinary things (SEE PICTURES ATTACHED). The second room we got was only a little better ..but I saw roaches and other nasty things around the hotel. While I was in the pool I was watched by one of their night workers who horrified me in the dark. Not only did I feel violated but very unsafe (WHY WAS HE JUST WATCHING ME AND NOT WORKING??).... I SAVED THE BEST FOR LAST!!!! When it was checkout time we grabbed some breakfast which ended up making my boyfriend sick (chicken and waffles) were not only undercooked but portions and prices did not add up. When we go out to grab our truck to leave we find out it has been STOLEN...INSIDE the GATED PARKING GARAGE!!!! We were told you needed a hotel key to get inside/out of the gate so this would mean someone in the hotel ONLY had access to take it. We later found out from the KC POLICE DEPARTMENT, KC DETECTIVES, and other valet workers that this IS NOT TRUE (ANOTHER LIE FROM THE HOTEL WORKERS ALI/ARI AND MANAGERS) and that ANYBODY CAN COME PULL THE GATE UP AT ANYTIME(HOW UNSAFE AND SCARY)!!! We had parked our truck on the 2nd level and it was BY A CAMERA THEY HAVE INSTALLED(NEGLECTING!! WHAT'S THE POINT OF HAVING CAMERAS ?!!!) HOW DOES A 4-STAR HOTEL WITH A VALET, SECURITY, AND A SERVALANCED GATED PARKING GARAGE ALLOW FOR A GUEST TRUCK TO GET STOLEN? My boyfriend and I had driven from Lawrence (45-50 MIN AWAY) so this left us STRANDED and the hotel did not care about us at all....we asked to see video and if we could stay another night since we had to wait for the police and had no way home...the MOST EVIL AND UNCONCEDERATE MANAGER LATISHA AND GM JEFF KEELEY DID NOTHING TO HELP US...and when the POLICE finally got there THEY LIED TO THE POLICE AND TOLD THEM THERE WAS NO FOOTAGE WHEN THE GM TOLD US THERE WAS AND GAVE A DESCRIPTION OF EVERYTHING HE SAW ON CAMERA...I WAS VERY SHOCKED THAT THEY WOULD LIE TO LAW ENFORCEMENT WHICH MADE US BELIEVE THAT THEY WERE IN ON THE ROBBERY AND THEFT OF OUR VEHICLE....WE WERE NOT OFFERED A FREE OR COMPENSATED ROOM AND HAD TO BOOK ANOTHER NIGHT WHERE I WAS THEN AGAIN OVERCHARGED!!! I've had to contact corporate, and IHG rewards since we're paying members and will tell all my KANSAS CITY ROYALS and ATHLETIC affiliates to NEVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL EVEN IF THEIR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT!! STAY FAR AWAY OR YOUR CAR AND MONEY WILL BE MISSING/GONE AND THEY WILL ACT LIKE IT IS YOUR FAULT. PLEASE ENJOY THESE VIDEOS AND IMAGES I TOOK FOR EVIDENCE. I'M ALSO A JOURNALIST AND WILL BE REACHING OUT TO MAYOR LUCAS, NEWS OUTLETS, MISSOURI CHIEF OF POLICE & BLASTING THIS ALL OVER SOCIAL MEDIA SINCE THIS HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. THIS IS WRONG WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO PEOPLE AND NO ONE HAS OFFERED AN APOLOGY OR PHONE CALL BACK!!!!

We had a wonderful stay while visiting the City for the Lions/Chiefs game this past weekend! I was not sure if we should stay in the Power & Light District or this area and I definitely made the right choice here! Happy Hour with Don on the concierge level kicked off our stay. Don is always smiling, awesome and has the best energy. “Oh yeah”! Make sure you meet Happy Hour Don while you’re there. The whole staff was super friendly and we loved it. Location is great! Directly across from Capital Grille, restaurants and shopping. Some areas of the hotel are a little dated but the service and staff were exceptional. Highly recommend!!

This seems like a hotel that used to be really nice, and is now just old. The updates are akin to putting lipstick on a pig. The room was spacious, and mostly clean, although i suspect someone previously stayed in the room with a pet because my kid’s allergies were terrible only inside the room. Beds are comfortable, but the doors are thin and you can hear any and everyone talking in the hallway. Try to get a higher floor, otherwise you’ll hear traffic and music (sat night) from the restaurants across the street. The gym is good, and has a nice locker room and dry sauna. The pool area isn’t the best. The design is odd, and they were out of towels when we were down there, so i had to get them from the gym. Location is really great, juts a quick block from County Club Plaza. Parking is easy, but not free. Overall, it was an average stay for an above average stay price. I will only stay here again if it’s the only place available.

I have lived in Kansas City all my life and just stopped at the InterContinental for breakfast in between meetings. What an enormous disappointment this hotel has become. It is run-down, dirty and desperately needs to be refurbished. This is not anywhere close to the prestigious quality that this landmark hotel used to be as the Alameda Plaza, Ritz-Carlton and Fairmont. The food and service in the restaurant were terrible. I probably won't go back unless I hear that it has been renovated or purchased by another line.

Desserts with Don was the best part of my trip! He’s in the concierge at night and you’ll be entertained and well taken care of! He was attentive and made sure we had drinks and entertainment. The hotel was accommodating as well when my room was too warm, they upgraded me to a suite. Would stay again!

The room was clean and the furnishings were nice. But the thermostat did not seem to be operable from the room. It blasted out frigid air at one temp and fan speed no matter what buttons we pressed. On top of that the beds did not have warm enough blankets. Our room was right next to the bank of elevators. It was an uncomfortable night and noisy when the elevators started up at the crack of dawn. When we left, we left our key cards in the room, but you need a key to exit the parking garage. Not impressed.

So many downs but unfortunately I’m really reaching for ups. The location is great. Walking distance to a ton of things. Some decent amenities but for the price we really expected more. Over $300 per night and no complimentary coffee? The room was very small. Bed was comfortable. The bathroom especially was super beat up. Peeling wallpaper, cracked caulking and sink, chipped paint everywhere. Just felt like a really old building with a bunch of half hearted cosmetic bandaids. It was very hot that weekend and the air was not able to keep the room cool enough. The hallways, pool area, and parking garage were thick with grime and age. Staff was also not welcoming or friendly. The valets were the exception here. Those guys were excellent. Overall a bummer of a stay.
