Chaotic check in made so much better by Youssef whose class and service embody classic inter continental excellence the hotel is teeming with vollyballers wedding guests and two frazzled chicago travellers like us who braved 8 hours of driving and an ice storm to boot Bravo Yussef! Thank you! Top shelf Dave C

When I'm traveling to KC, I always stay at the InterContinental KC at the Plaza! The location is convenient to so many restaurants, the rooms are clean and spacious and the restaurant/bar in the lobby (American Slang) is a great place to wind down at the end of a long day. Definitely recommend the hotel and the friendly staff!

Horrible service!!! We reserved 2 rooms for 3nights/4days and neither room was EVER cleaned while we were there. Hotel was supposedly renovated in 2018, per Bellman but it was rough and that is generous. Very sad to see what once was a very nice place sink so low. Shame on management.

Great location across the bridge from the restaurants of the Plaza. Our room had a beautiful view of the Plaza lights. Annoying that I had to phone reception to ask for the sofa bed to be made up (even though I’d already stated in the reservation that the room was for 6 people). I shouldn’t have had to chase it up. The room needed some TLC. The smoke alarm was literally hanging off the wall - unsightly and off-putting. Breakfast in the restaurant was fine, good service. Be aware that they automatically added a 20% service charge (at least they did to our bill). There’s no wow factor when you first walk through the front door - but there is a really beautiful cozy sitting room with a fireplace just off the front entrance.

I am writing you to inform you I will be speaking with a personal injury lawyer regarding the theft I experienced at your hotel upon checking out December 17, 2023. After arriving to the Intercontinental to stay in the suite, I had a terrible time getting checked in early after I had requested an early check-in however, the lady at the front desk allow me to get dressed in the locker room because I did tell her that I was supposed to speak at a graduation and that was why I needed the early check in and I had to get ready. After leaving the hotel for our two nights, I left a bag in the chair, a bkack bag with my Coco Chanel $150 perfume in the pocket along with my air mattress in a different bag I called a few hours after I checked out in the evening and talked to a lady at the front desk who assured me my items were all there after I asked her to confirm that my perfume was in the bag and my air mattress was there, and she told me that it was all there and waiting at the front desk that was December 17I told her to please write my name on the items and I will be there in the morning to pick them up and she said OK. I came in the morning. I got my items and my perfume was missing from my bag. I told the front desk, and they called the director of housekeeping he came down and he was not empathetic. He looked at me like I had done something wrong. He told me that the room was not even clean and he checked the room and it was not in the room. I told him I know it’s not in the room because it was in my bag. It was in my bag and someone stole it from my bag. He said nothing. I told him what are the next steps he told me he would get the director of operations he never did get the Director of operations. I found him myself I explained the situation. He called the lady at the front desk, and she confirmed that she did not go through the bag , I’m not sure who was cleaning the room 303 on 16 December 2023 and took my items to the front desk but they definitely took out my $150 perfume. I would never stay here again I never would trust a hotel who would hire housekeeping or any staff that think THEFT is OK in any form I expected more from the front desk, I was a suite member and they didn’t even tell me I had a complementary breakfast on the 11th floor. I only found out when I heard somebody say something in the elevator. It was horrible customer service I advise you, Jeff Keeley to hire better employees, or at least train them on the right morals and values especially during this holiday season. I hope the person who is using my perfume right now smells very well, bless you and I hope that nothing bad happens to you and I hope that you will learn from your wrongs. I understand that you need growth and maturity in the head , I hope you get there. I hope you stop stealing from guests items, I know housekeeping is a hard job with little pay. As for my item.. I will be filing a police report with the hotel. I advise anyone who stays at the Intercontinental hotel on the plaza to beware of the lack of customer, service and the housekeeping theft that occurs in that hotel..

We stayed in December 2023 and paid over $850 for two nights. I thought this would be a luxurous stay, given the price. The bed was comfortable and the coffee in the restaurant was delicious, but the room and hotel were definately not worth the price paid. In hind sight, we should have stayed at a Marriott Courtyard, Hilton, a Hampton Inn, or maybe even a Best Western. Any of them would have been better accomodations at a lower price. In 30 years of nationwide business ravel I have never had to opt-in for having my room serviced. We returned later the second day only to find the bed not made or towels replaced. The front desk said the notice to specifically request a serviced room had to be made by noon. And that the notice was clearly posted, not in the room, but.....in an elevator! We called and the front desk sent up clean towels and coffee pods, but apparently we were not the only ones with this issue. The people in the room next to us had housekeeping there to service their room serviced, as well as we were leaving for an activity. Maybe they didn't see the notice in the elevator! We had an early flight after our second night and went to the restaurant for breakfast, only to be told that, unfortunately, the wait staff had not yet arrived for work. This was about 30 minutes after the resturant was supposedly open. So no breakfast, even though we had paid for it in advance. Advice to other travelers: You can do much better at some other hotel.

***AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS*** I am not one to write reviews, but my family's recent experience at the Intercontinental Kansas City needs to be posted to help others prevent a HORRENDOUS hotel stay. We checked into the hotel at 4:15pm on the afternoon of Thanksgiving. My wife and I were taking our 6 and 4 year old children to stay on the Plaza for the lighting ceremony. We booked a Premium View Queen suite to the tune of ~$450/night. Upon entering our 4th floor room, we found the THERMOSTAT READING 61 DEGREES. We immediately called guest services, who then called engineering. Due to the room being so cold for our kids, we opted to go down to the lobby bar/lounge area for drinks and snacks. We were told by the front desk associate that she would come find us and provide updates (this never happened). The furniture in this are is in dire need of updating. There was only one waiter (who, to his credit, was busting his butt) serving everyone (I would estimate 50-75 people). What we found very odd was that there were multiple employees walking around the lounge who would only clear empties and not take any orders - some cross training may help better serve guests on busy nights. After an hour and a half of waiting, I went back to the front desk and asked for an update. The employee’s response was “Well, have you called engineering”? I wasn’t aware that it was the guest’s responsibility to make phone calls on behalf of the front desk staff. The employee then called up to engineering, who had just entered the room. I went up to the room and waited while the engineer tried to fix things. This hotel is heated by an old boiler system, so he was trying to bleed the water lines. After a few times in and out of the room to go to the boiler, he left again, saying that he had one last thing to try and would be back in 10 minuets tops. After 25 minuets of waiting, and still no return, I had enough and started making my way down to the lobby to discuss options with the front desk staff. At this point, my wife and kids had been in the lobby bar for two and a half hours. I then GET STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR and have to use the stairs/fire escape, which takes me out to the opposite side of the building. Once I got back to the lobby, the front desk staff had no suitable alternatives. Our option was to have a queen room on the first floor with a limited view of the Plaza lighting. After THREE HOURS of dealing with this, I opted to check out of the hotel so that my family and I could salvage the reminder of our evening. I told the employee that I thought it was reasonable for the hotel to comp my family’s bill in the lounge while we were waiting for the heat to be fixed. He told me that the hotel and restaurant were separate, and that it was up to the restaurant. After asking for a manager, the employee magically found a way to make his way over to the restaurant, and rather than bringing the restaurant manager over to me, told me that I needed to go find him. After 15-20 min of waiting, I finally had the restaurant bill comped. I made my way back to the front desk and spoke with the same employee regarding my hotel bill. I was ASSURED at this point that everything was taken care of with the room and that there would be no charges. Well… surprise, surprise, I look at my credit card statement and find a charge for the FULL AMOUNT of the room for two nights. I called on 12/6/23 and asked to speak with a manager regarding the credit card charge. I was frantically put on hold for 10 min to "prioritize a flood of check-ins." After speaking with a manager and telling him this story, he said that he would immediately talk to the GM and call me right back. I am still waiting on a response and will soon be filing a dispute with American Express. FROM THE ROOM NOT HAVING HEAT, TO THE NON-EXISTENT HOSPITALITY, LACK OF SERVICE, OUTDATED FURNITURE, ETC., THIS THREE HOUR EXPERIENCE AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL KANSAS CITY WAS A COMPLETE S**T SHOW! I hope that other potential guests that are reading this review find another hotel to stay at. There are plenty of other options on the Plaza and downtown (the new LOEWS hotel is amazing and the staff went out of their way to make sure that every part of our stay was top of the line). With all of that being said, one of the things that irritates me the most is that WE DID NOT RECEIVE ONE APOLOGY FROM ANY OF THE INTERCONTINENTAL STAFF MEMBERS. THEY SIMPLY DO NOT CARE. Perhaps, if I was wearing a suit like other guests, I would have been taken care of with a bit of respect. This review will be posted on Google, Yelp, Trip Advisor, etc., and sent to the managers of the Intercontinental Kansas City and to IHG corporate managers. My family and I have stayed at numerous other IHG branded hotels (mainly Kimpton Hotels) across the world and have always had a wonderful experience. We are sorry to find out that the Intercontinental Kansas City, a hotel located in a popular area of our home town for visiting tourists, could potentially be someone’s first impression of Kansas City. TO IHG CORPORATE, I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT THE INTERCONTINENTAL KANSAS CITY BUILDINGS AND STAFF GO UNDER IMMEDIATE REVIEW, AS IT IS TARNISHING THE IHG BRAND.

This is a fantastic older hotel. Built in 72 it still has class. However service is not the caliber of an intercontinental. Needs more staff….needs some updating. I’ve been coming here since it opened…as a kid….I sensed it glamour even then. Please hire more staff. The ones you have are jewels!

My wife and I have stayed several times at the Inter Continental in Kansas City and had good experiences. Unfortunately this time it was not satisfactory. We added the breakfast with our room package. So when we went down in the morning for breakfast we were seated and sat there for 15 minutes with no attention. What we thought was a manager came to the table finally and said can I get you some drinks. 5 minutes later somebody else that worked there walked up and took our menus. We tried to tell him we didn't order yet but he did not here us. After another 10 minutes with no one coming to the table we decided to leave. I could have looked past that situation but here is where it really went wrong. I went to the desk to hand in my room cards and I told them about the breakfast experience. I asked if I could get a refund for the breakfast and the lady at the desk said she could not give a cash refund but would go talk to her manager. She returned saying the manager said there was nothing they could do about it. He or she did not even bother to come out and apologize or talk to me in person. For that reason I will not be returning to the Intercontinental. Sometimes there are problems with staffing but the manager is responsible and pretty sad when he or she can't even come out and address the situation in person.
