Stayed here weekend of 5/30. Hotel was a ghost town which is to be expected. Hotel was at low occupancy yet we were clumped together staying aside other guests....weird they didnt distance that. Hotel is showing its age and staff is not doing a good job at keeping everything tidy in the rooms and in the halls. The dust pile up was almost unacceptable. I like this location and have stayed here before but there are cleaner places on the plaza to stay that offer same amenities since everything here was shut down. Yes, I understand COVID has made a wreck of things but you can still clean your property.

VANDALIZED and BURGLARIZED at this HOTEL. If we could give this rating a zero, we would. We picked this hotel because of the Intercontinental reputation for safety and security and a high-quality hotel. Awful. We parked in the attached hotel parking lot. And when we came to our car in the morning, our car had been smashed and most of our contents taken. (We were traveling across Country so hoped our car would be safe at this hotel.). The GM and hotel response was terrible. There was no security at this hotel!! At all or anywhere! There was no security gate or arms on the parking lot garage. They claim that the security cameras had been cut. They took absolutely no responsibility for any of our problems and barely helped us with the problem. The GM never came to help or talk to us. The director of marketing tried, but was not very good at it. We asked for the GM to call us and it took two days and only after I called him and asked he return my call. The GM later told us it was our risk and problem and nothing he could do. Told us next time to use a valet park as then it would be our fault but sorry we don’t have Valet at this hotel?!!! We have written to Intercontinental corporate headquarters and been told that they can do nothing for us. They referred us back to the GM who was actually the person responsible for creating the problems in the first place! Pathetic all around. To add insult, we were locked out of our rooms at 1030 at night due to batteries going dead on door. Had to wait nearly 30 minutes to be let into room. Overall terrible experience and leadership and ownership of this hotel. I urge BOYCOTT of Intercontinentals given their handling. How can anyone feel safe if this is how they run their hotels?

When I come to Kansas City I always look forward to staying at the InterContinental Hotel! Not only does it have a great view of the plaza, the rooms are HUGE, the hotel is spotlessly clean and the service is exemplary. Be sure to get a balcony room and spend time sitting there. It's such a beautiful sight.

Dear 749sierras, First of all, thank you for your loyalty to the InterContinental Kansas City at the Plaza. We have been blessed over the years with so many loyal guests, which is something we value greatly and will never take for granted. Your comments about the spotlessly clean environment and exemplary service were shared with our entire team this morning. We take a lot of pride in both areas and it’s always rewarding to receive the positive feedback. The private balconies off of each room are one of the very unique features when compared to the other very nice hotels in this area. In the Tower, the balconies in the Superior and Concierge view rooms offer a commanding view of the hotel’s pool and the Plaza. In the Wing, the balconies in the Deluxe rooms also offer an amazing Plaza view and they are large enough to accommodate a small table and two chairs. We appreciate your taking the time to share the most recent experience on Tripadvisor, and we look forward to the next opportunity to welcome you back and be of service! Sincerely, Don Breckenridge General Manager

I just checked out of the Intercontinental this past weekend for a COVID safe weekend in KC. Country Club Plaza is as beautiful as ever, with pristine landscaping throughout, charming fountains, and magnificent architecture. Everything is 'Disney Perfect' until you pull into the InterContinental. Here, weed filled planters, dead foliage, trash filled landscaping, and major exterior deferred maintenance issues greet you upon arrival. No effort seems to have been put into the exterior of this property in months. I understand its 'Covid'...but there is simply no excuse for this neglect. Look across the street people! Pealing paint, and missing architectural features My room was fine, and recently refurbished....but DIRTY! How can a housekeeper not see 3 potato chips under the TV cabinet in the living area? How about the gathering of several VERY long hairs in the bathroom floor. Shall i go on??? You promote a Covid safe environment, yet the housekeepers on my floor NEVER had a mask on when i passed them in the hallway. NEVER! Even the promotion advertised in the elevators had expired in June. Really? No breakfast offering other than a Starbucks franchise, and a lunch offering that we found disappointing. Im coming back....but i think I will be staying across the street, which is where we went to have breakfast each morning. Seems to be a MUCH nicer property.... Its a shame.... I remember when this was the Ritz. I remember when this property was the pride of Country Club Plaza.....

Dear JamesE339, Thank you for your feedback. I don’t know when you stayed at the hotel. What I do know after my tour of the exterior yesterday, which is done at least once each week, is there were not any weed filled planters. There was not any trash in the landscaping. All the landscaping was trimmed and the trees pruned. The lawns were freshly cut and the many flowers in full bloom. There was a formal inspection of the hotel done this week by an outside party who inspects the property annually. They mentioned how nice everything looked. We are glad you liked your room. Please accept my apologies for some of the things we missed from a cleanliness standpoint. This should not have happened and it doesn’t reflect our four-diamond standards. If you would like to let me know your room number, we will be able to follow-up internally with the associates assigned to your room. All associates, without exception, are required to have a mask covering their nose and mouth at all times when in public areas. Our staff is aware of this. Your comment was shared with our housekeeping team this morning. I explained to the team that although I walk the guestroom corridors daily and have never seen an associate without a mask on, I will be making more rounds and reminded everyone that failure to comply will result in corrective action being taken. That's how serious we are about this. We do promote a COVID safe environment and we are proud of this. There are shields between the guests and staff at the registration desks. Each party is provided with a Personal Protective Equipment Welcome Kit upon arrival that includes a face mask, two sanitizing wipes and some hand sanitizer. Additionally, there is COVID signage and at least 33 hand sanitizing stations strategically deployed throughout the hotel. Every associate is screened for COVID, including their temperature being taken, each day. All non-essential "clutter" has been removed from the guestrooms. IHG has set very exact and industry leading COVID related standards for all their hotels. We embrace these requirements as they are the right thing to do in today's times. During our annual IHG Quality Audit this month, which takes into account COVID standards compliance , the hotel scored 100%. Once again, thank you for your feedback. Sincerely, Don Breckenridge General Manager dbreckenridge@kansascityic.com

We travel often and I’m sad to report I was disappointed with this “4 star hotel”. I’ve stayed here on business before for one night and it was ok primarily because we had a view of the plaza. This time we gave it another shot and stayed for two nights and will not be staying at the Intercontinental Kansas City again. Upon arrival we learned I did not book what I thought was the plaza view (my mistake ok) but the upgrade was $100 more so we passed primarily because of the vibe we received at check-in. We entered our room to find poor workmanship and deferred maintenance throughout our room. The warm water on the sink was a mere light stream and didn’t produce any warm water and to top it off there was a bug in the sink. The overdone caulking job and peeling wallpaper was an eyesore. The bathroom curtain and floor had hair trimmings or pubes. The carpet needed stretched in the main area and was loose. The balcony did not have a table or chair as advertised. The bed was stiff but it did have a comfortable down comforter that helped and we utilized to help with head support overnight. Because of Covid there was no room service which is understandable but there are no vending machines to grab a drink or snack. The pool was ok but limited seats so we only stayed 15 min. Best part of the pool experience was the down to earth pool entry worker. $20 self parking per day and no valet was a joke. Had a wonderful breakfast across the street at the Raphael recommended by a Inter. Employee (thanks for the true 4-5 star Recommendation!) Hotel restaurant is closed on Sundays. Starbucks market was conveniently open and the staff there were friendly! As frequently as we like to visit KC we will continue to stay elsewhere. This experience and the hotel is far from a 4 star hotel. Save your money and stay elsewhere. The Raphael across the street is also conveniently located near the plaza. There is also the wonderful Marriott where we’ve stayed.

Dear aimee316, Thank you for your feedback and please accept my apologies for not all aspects of your stay being acceptable. If you reserved a room without a Plaza view, it would not have been advertised as having a table and chairs on the balcony. Only Plaza view rooms in the Wing section of the hotel offer this. For future reference, drinks and snacks are available at the front desk 24/7. Your room should not have been in the condition you describe, which certainly does not meet our four-diamond standards. We always welcome guests to let us know of any issues while they are here so immediate attention may be given. In this case, it would have been our pleasure to provide you with a different room. We are glad you enjoyed our Starbucks Market, the pool and our staff, and we hope to have another opportunity to be of service. Sincerely, Don Breckenridge General Manager
