My husband and I decided to take a quick trip not to far away from home. I love old houses and chose Rockcliffe Mansion. The history of this house is both amazing and confusing. To own a house like this and walk away and leave it untouched for 43 years is the confusing part. The hosts couldn't have been more pleasant from answering all of our questions to making you feel right at home. Their recommendation for where to have dinner was spot on. If you like antique items and going back in time this is the place. It really felt like we were staying in a home and we were able to come and go as we please. The hosts are discreet and you can wander the rooms without feeling uncomfortable. The breakfast was good and the other guests sharing the meal with us felt like friends. I would definitely recommend Rockcliffe Mansion. p.s. no ghosts were around the night we stayed :)…
We decided to splurge and treat ourselves to a one night stay at this beautiful mansion in Hannibal, Mo. It was fabulously luxurious walking through the beautifully restored rooms. As you look at the details that have gone into restoring this home, it is clear how much passion and thought goes into each and every piece of this home. Warren and Juan have and are doing a wonderful job preserving and restoring this beautiful home. We will be back taking pleasure that we are contributing the the restoration of this beautiful landmark.
I had visited here for the tour in August and loved it so much that I wanted to return and show it off to other friends and family and enjoy the bed and breakfast option too. Warren & Juan were amazing hosts from the wine and cheese reception to the amazing 3 course breakfast in the morning. I highly recommend staying here! The only suggestion I would have is to update the bed mattresses a bit. Can keep the authentic "old" look still but upgrade the mattress for a better night sleep.
An amazing glimpse of early 1900s elegance, the Rockcliffe Mansion is remarkable in having nearly all original furnishings and wall coverings, documented by family photos. Owners Warren and Juan have undertaken a heroic task of restoring this treasure to its former glory. Our tour was conducted by Juan, who was highly informative and personable as well. We very much enjoyed our stay in the elegant Anne Louise room. Juan and Warren hosted a wine an cheese gathering for the overnight guests on one of the porches - a pleasant opportunity to get to know them and the other guests. Our stay culminated in an excellent breakfast served by Warren in the dining room. If you are going to Hannibal, don't miss this national treasure.
This was a wonderful place to stay filled with history, antique furnishings, woodwork and character. Our hosts Warren and Juan were extremely knowledgeable about the mansion and the history of the family that originally owned it. There were many pictures that were taken when the mansion was first lived in. It was very obvious the restoration incorporated many of the original furnishings, light fixtures, ice box, stove etc. If you can’t stay overnight, definitely take the tour. It is worth the time!
