Be prepared for an additional $45.00 to your room rate, each night. All kinds of fees and taxes. Nothing to do in the town. We walked the Old Town, many empty store fronts. So just hanging out at the pool seemed to be only activity. Highlight of our meals was the breakfast, and waitress Sue, it was excellent. The pricey dinner not at all worth it. Husbands Wagyu steak had to be sent back for more cooking. My smoked chicken was smoked dry. The room was quite small, and the air conditioner, so loud when it came on every 20 minutes all night. Wished we hadn’t splurged on 2 nights, and just stayed 1. That’s all it took to want to go home.
We stayed at The Elms because we enjoy the "old historic hotel" experience and this hotel did not disappoint. It is rich in history with an upscale feel. I would highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys old historic properties. It is a lovely get-away destination, particularly for couples. We did not partake of the Paranormal experience, and did not encounter any unexpected "guests" in our quarters! :-)
The stay for my girlfriends birthday was excellent. We were both first timers at the Elms. The staff exceeded my expectations. The couples massage was perfect (my massuse was Ashley) and the food at the 3 Owls, aside from them being out of a lot of the menu, was excellent. Bartender was top notch. Manager came by our table and she was excellent as well. Only complaint...bed didn't help my back but if you like a soft mattress, you're gold!
My husband and I had a great 2 night stay at the Elms. The highlight for us was definitely the spa. We experienced the Halo Cave and love the grotto. We enjoyed time by the pool. Staff was super helpful and friendly. Room was nice and clean. We upgraded to a suite and had plenty of room. Would definitely recommend the Elms Hotel and Spa.
We stayed here for four nights on a family road trip to the KC area and elsewhere. I loved the exterior and lobby. Very old-school glamour/luxury and easy to imagine the place when it was new being a place for the 1920s elite. The indoor and outdoor pools were both great. We ended up using the basement pool more as it was uncomfortably hot outside during our stay. We had a two-room suite (room 410) that was on a corner, providing views to the north and west. I loved the views, but I wish the windows were cleaner so we could enjoy it--they were covered with grime and cobwebs (outside--not inside). Our room was very nice and roomy for us and our two kids, but the paint on the walls in the living room was all scraped up and in need of a new coat. Slight knock. Everything else was exceptionally good. No free breakfast here. We used the coffee shop to buy muffins and cinnamon rolls and stuff like that. We did the ghost tour. I don't know if I'd recommend that, considering it added $80 to our bill. The tour guide just talked really really fast and at times I had a hard time understanding him. It was neat that he had a story about our room. The morning before I thought I had felt something paranormal in the room--so it was reassuring to know there had been other stories about the room. Even if you're not a believer, it certainly is an interesting place. Side note--it was 100 degrees the entire time we were in KC and the room's air conditioner handled it wonderfully. I was concerned since the building is 110 years old....but it was perfect!…
We enjoyed the entire stay. Very unique place with little surprises everywhere. Two pools, indoor and outdoor, both nice. Indoor one was not like every other indoor pool. More like a lazy river with tubs on the end to relax in. Really quiet. The whole place has kept the feel from the era it was built with some modern updates. Staff was really great!
My stay here was amazing! We went there for a girl's trip, and we had a blast! We were able to do everything we wanted while we were there. I could have definitely stayed another week, and did not want to go home-but I had to go back to reality! The food was great, the ambiance was amazing, and the staff was attentive. The restaurant manager was delightful, and so was Psu. They were just superb, and customer service was top notch with these 2 ladies. The spa was great. The Grotto was amazing-and it was crazy how time just seemed to freeze down there. I would definitely go back there again. Soon, hopefully!
Room was very humid and hot. The toilet got clogged and it took a long time to get someone up there so we checked out early and went home. We always like the spa but this was our first time at the hotel and we would prefer a bnb in town
Beautiful hotel, but sits in the middle of town. Everything there is so expensive. The ghost tour was fun, but not worth paying for. It should be included in the price of your stay. The pool is very nice. The spa is very over priced, so we got pedicures in town at a local shop. The restaurant is so expensive. Everything is a la carte and over priced. A side salad for 13 dollars, come on now. The rooms are nice and the bed super comfy. I slept very well! If you are a smoker, they offer no smoking area or place for cigarette butts, so people throw them everywhere on the property! We put ours in a pop can. The amount of trash around was terrible as well, because you couldn't find a trash can in the hotel or on the grounds. The tavern is only open at night on weekends.
Such an amazing, history filled property! The staff is awesome - and I mean every single staff member we came across was super nice - from checking in to the maintenance crew, to the cleaning staff, to the bar staff - all were pleasant and that is a very rare find while traveling.
