We were unsure about booking the Moulin because we couldn't find many recent reviews - but we shouldn't have worried! It's a beautiful hidden away hotel about 20 min drive from Aix, so hidden we drove past it and had to ask for directions. The welcome was warm and the couple running the place are very friendly and helpful - they booked a great restaurant for us on the first night. We jumped straight in the pool when we arrived, it's the best imaginable, straight from the stream, big, clean, fresh and cooling. The view of Saint Victoir from the grounds are incredible, especially in the peachy evening sunshine. There's great sun bathing round the pool, which we wished to enjoy more. Breakfast was excellent - lots of jams and fresh honey, local bread, yoghurt and pastries. You can book dinner with advance notice, but we chose to have a picnic nearby instead. Our room was on the ground floor near the pool and terrace, a good size and nice bathroom with shower room. The first night was a bit warm but the second night was ok, we used a mosquito plug there just to be safe. They only take cash, but be sure to book direct (€150 per night) to avoid booking fees. Highly recommended if you want somewhere near Aix-en-Provence in the countryside.…
Situated in an old watermill you find this charming and in many ways breathtaking place with a few delightfully furbished rooms. Breakfast by the pool with the sound of the brook in the background is sheer heaven. Dinner on the terrace comes with an astonishing view of the Mont St. Victoire, which by the way was among french painter Paul Cézannes favorite subjects. (Cézanne is said to have stayed one night in the hay at this mill on his way to study the mountain when surprised by a storm). The buildings are charmingly restored and the garden is neatly arranged with a lot of lovely details. It is a little pricy though breakfast is included. It is possible to order both lunch and dinner at the place. The hosts, a couple from Paris, are nice and informative, and yet I have a feeling of wanting a little more professionalism in their treatment. Apart from the chambres d'hotes it is also possible to rent a the gite - a separate house for up to four people.…
Le Moulin en Provence is a beautiful, charming, historic old mill set at the base of Mont St. Victoire. Amazing views of the mountain and nature! Great pool fed by mountain stream in the garden. Charming, clean rooms with terraces! Breakfasts include freshly baked bread and pastries, homemade yogurt and jams in a variety of flavors like fig with pistachio. Romantic! Child-friendly. Very nice, helpful owners. So serene - one of the most beautiful properties that I have ever seen!
Our stay was brief but delightful. A chance to see Mont Sainte-Victoire up close and see it change with the light and weather. Cézanne's paintings have deeper meaning after this visit. The history of the mill was enthusiastically shared. A serene location. Bravo!
My stay at the Moulin was at the very beginning of the season, I was the only guest and well taken care of. Though the restaurant wasn't open yet, we discussed what I would like and Dominique served a lovely meal, simple, but with wonderful herbs and flavours. From the terrace I had a view of the Mt St Victoire, which was the reason for me to be there: two days of extensive hiking on the mountain. The trails start just 300m from Le Moulin. The rooms all have doors opening into the garden, with nice places to sit, and the small river fills the pool. My bed was very comfortable, the night quiet. It is a very peaceful place. My stay was too short.
We absolutely loved our stay at Le Moulin en Provence. Dominique and Pierre were lovely, attentive and charismatic hosts. The property itself is beautiful, secluded and provides you with an opportunity to appreciate the natural beauty of this region of France. The included breakfast was served by the large pool each morning and included fresh and local produce. We also enjoyed a delicious home cooked meal prepared by Dominique and Pierre, served outside with a beautiful view of Sainte Victorie Mountain. We highly recommend Le Moulin en Provence to families and couples!
