Le Méridien St. Louis Clayton receives a mixed spectrum of feedback. While some guests appreciate the hotel's cleanliness and the prompt, friendly service, others have reservations about its value, pointing to issues like small room sizes and extra charges for Wi-Fi. The location is seen as convenient by travelers who value easy highway access and the essentials nearby, yet others wish for more dining and shopping options. Always polite and welcoming. The 3rd floor pool vibe was fun although, they could use more than a wait staff in the summer. They need someone to straighten chairs and get rid of discarded towels & manage the space to look fresher. The many highlights for us are the great rooms with floor to ceiling windows, comfy beds & fabulous in-room coffee makers. The Illy Cafe, bar and gelato shop is the BEST breakfast in town. The food is excellent. Jazmin, Andrew and Angela are amazing servers. So polite. The rosemary coffee cake and brioche French toast are my favs. The best bar tender and server around is Shannon Taylor. That girl is gregarious, polite, knowledgable about local life and she HUSTLES! Bravo!!!

We have stayed at Le Meridien Hotel in Clayton, MO on a handful of occasions and are always pleased with the room and the service. The location is just a short distance from our child's college and there are several restaurants within walking distance. We especially like the outdoor pool and gym with its distant view of the Arch, informative notes about calories and humorous wallpaper. However, an exercycle or two would be preferable to the two Peloton bikes that I have never seen anyone use. We'd also like to give a shout out to Tom, the afternoon valet, who is efficient and reliable at getting us our rental car, friendly and full of information about St. Louis!

I write this while still checked in at this hotel. My rating of poor is based on everything so far being below what most people would feel as reasonable expectations. Starting with a bellman who is clueless about service and decorum who showed me to a room that is compared to other hotel properties small and because of the choice of barn doors provides inadequate privacy while using the bathroom.
A need to communicate with the front desk because although Wi-Fi is shown as free, ( even on Trip Advisor), after logging on according to the front desk instruction, the connection screen only allows to connect by agreeing to pay for Wi-Fi. Complimentary coffee in room is provided but the coffee maker did not operate properly and there were 2 small creamer pods which would clearly not accommodate anything but near black coffee for 2 people. Ordering a cafe latte ( because of shortage of creamer), and a banana bread pudding from room service, and being advised, sorry no bread pudding. I wonder what is next, because I have been here so far for 4.5 hrs and already completely disappointed. Having traveled extensively, I must also state that price to value is completely out of balance. I understand that each of the points I raise, one could rationalize are minor, but cumulative they project a sour tone and create a poor experience. I hope that management takes the time to visit high end properties and learns the difference between good, very good, and great with respect to hotel properties.
Because I feel that creating a negative review without a name is not fair, but considering this is a very public forum, I post the first 5 letters of my name, (Sund).

My husband just returned from a 2 night stay in room 1106 and his ankles are covered in bed bug bites (see photos). Upon noticing his bites I immediately put all of his clothing in the wash as I have heard the bugs are a nightmare to get rid of if brought into the house. His stay was otherwise pleasant but knowing there are bed bugs in the hotel he will not stay there again.

I really like this hotel. I like the location, the layout, the boutique feeling and the staff. However....

I have been here before and there is still the same irksome problem. There are gnats in the restaurant and bar. A year ago they were there. It is the plants or the drains. Handle it! These should be managed. A year? I ended up ordering food to the room twice in the evening because I didn't want to be bothered.. I left the bar another time for the same reason.

My room wouldn't cool below 71 and this is awful when you dress for winter weather.

Towel bars not properly secured.

Shower doors have stops on the tracks to prevent the doors from slamming into the walls. You will get disturbed by the sound from other rooms when their showers don't have these engaged. See the stop moving on my shower?

I returned to my room to find a refrigerator sitting on the carpet. I didn't request it. Nobody could explain it.

The continued care isn't ongoing.

I have stayed at this hotel several times and always found the condition good and the service good as well. This past stay an employee of the hotel, most likely a housekeeper, took my Apple AirPods from the charging cord they were attached to. I didn’t realize they were gone until we were checking out and rushing to make a flight. I called the hotel to let them know and when using the MyFind function I was able to see they were across the river in Illinois and sent the hotel the address. They checked and said it wasn’t an employee and could be part of the outsourced linen cleaning company. The next day I was able to ping them again and they were at a restaurant location near the hotel. I notified them again at this point the rooms Mgr said there insurance carrier would contact me for a loss report to replace them. I never heard from them again even now one month after leaving several messages for the Rooms Mgr. So I write this review to warn travelers to maintain your valuables at this property and if there is an issue don’t expect a resolution.

Very tired property with tiny rooms and bathrooms just a hare bigger than an airline. No room to really put any toiletries or such on the sink and there is truly no storage in the bathroom unless you want to put things on the toilet tank or under the sink. 1 hook and 1 towel rack. Definitely does not live up to its brand. We had to change rooms multiple times due to odors in the halls and the rooms. No idea what they are trying to cover up but two rooms smelled like a dirty dish towel and the halls smelled of glade air freshener as if they had to work overtime to mask something even worse than that smell. The guy at the front desk was nice and tried to accommodate but he knew there was nothing he could do about the odors. The toiletry amenities were nice malin-Goetz but that’s about it as the towels were “pilly” and not very absorbent and the 1 robe in the room was very short and made of a scratchy material. I will never understand why hotels offer only 1 robe in double rooms but it didn’t matter as this one was certainly not cozy. Location is fine for Clayton and they do have parking for a fee but this property is way over due for a major rehab and re-design. I have no idea how to fix the bathroom size but none of the 3 rooms we saw had a bathroom that really made sense size-wise and you certainly cannot expect more than 1 person to live in these rooms as they are configured. Truly a disappointment. Also the room doors seem to have been designed to close with as much noise as possible so if you like to sleep late this is definitely not your spot as our room was at one end of the hall and I think I could hear every single door close with a “slam” up and down the hall all night long and all morning. I wish I could say more nice things but other than the front desk guy who was nice I cannot think of a reason to visit this property or pay the rates offered.

ChiTownTravlR- I am really sorry you felt like this experience with us was less than spectacular. We are actually a newly renovated property and only have been open for a few years. After moving your set of rooms 3 separate times and having the team come behind you to check into your mentioned comments. We couldn't locate the scents you refer too. We don't use scent on the guest floors, this is a brand standard to have in the public space which we do use. I am having the team check into the door closing that you mentioned. This is something i agree with and that we will work on for sure. I will also speak with our vendor about the quality of robes we offer. Thank you for all the feedback and i would welcome you back anytime! mk

This was my first stay at a Le Meridien and I was expecting so much more. I read that the hotel has a European vibe - the only European vibe I got from my stay was the small sized room. The lighting was poor, no alarm clock, no dresser, no closet - except for 5 or 6 hangars. No decent working area in the room either. In spite of just 2 elevators for a 15 story hotels, the wait times were not too bad. The "gift shop" was almost non-existent. A few items in a cabinet across the lobby from the front desk with a few drink and snack options was all they had - no magazines, newspapers, toiletry or personal items if needed. The location was not near a park or too many restaurants or shops - just businesses. I've had better accommodations at lower end hotels like Hampton Inn or Fairfield Inns. The price was way too high - only stayed there because of a meeting I was attending.

JosephK- I appreciate your candid feedback. Ill make sure the city of Clayton doesnt hear that you dont think there are many restaurants in the area. Last check, there was 30 within a few short blocks of the hotel. You are right, our sundries area is just snacks and drinks, we found our guests get all the news and gossip they need from their personal devices so instead we focus on local products to help them advertise to our distinguished guest. You need to try the cookies, they are delicious. I do agree our room size is a little on the small size and my fear with adding what you suggested would make it feel smaller, so we choose to go with a simple closet design and a few drawers. Most of our guests stay for a day or two and never really unpack. Lastly, if your usual hotel of choice is a Fairfield or Hampton Inn then yes, we will be more expensive without question. Come back and try us again, our team will create a dining list and leave a few extra hangers for you. All the best, mk

We stayed in the king room. It was very clean. I think this was the smallest of the king rooms so I would describe it a a compact room. But it was perfect for us because we were only going to be there just to sleep and leave early the next morning. The bathroom accommodates only one person at a time but the bathroom was spotless. There is a counter height or bar height work station with a counter height bar stool for you to sit or work at. We were only at hotel for less than 24 hours but the room was very clean, bed comfy and room was quiet. We will definitely be staying here again. We have family in STL and will be coming to visit regularly. This is the 3 hotel we have stayed in and has been my favorite. I wish I had taken a picture. Next time for sure! The staff was extremely welcoming.
