We stayed here for my bff’s birthday weekend getaway. The house and grounds are beautiful. It’s very peaceful here and the property is located conveniently close to the highway. It’s a scenic 80 mile drive from St Louis. Jon and Penny are wonderful hosts and are both very personable. The food (all vegan) was delicious. Jon was able to accommodate everyone in our groups’ allergies into our meals. Everything you could possibly need during your stay is provided (earplugs, slippers, slumber mask, robes...) The bed is so comfy I didn’t want to get up! In addition to exploring the gardens, we enjoyed tea time with the queen (of England) complete with fancy hats, browsed books in the library, and did a Zin yoga class in the yoga studio. We stayed in the Carolina and Charleston rooms. A soak the claw foot tub in the Carolina room is a must after an invigorating work out at Johnson Shut in’s. We loved the books scattered around each room, the salt lamps, and the oil diffusers. There is really not anything Penny didn’t think of! We enjoyed every moment of our stay here and will definitely be back.

My husband and I spent our wedding night here. Neither of us had ever stayed in a bed and breakfast before, so we weren’t sure what to expect...I’m happy to say we were both delighted to have been able to experience the hospitality & luxury of this lovely historic inn! John & Penny thought of everything to help you be comfortable & relax, and I can’t rave enough about the food or the accommodations. Everything was amazing, all the way down to the books in the rooms & library and the art they have chosen to display; not to mention the historical value of the home its self & the fact that John is an extremely talented chef with a plethora of experience. I’ve never felt softer linens in my life - and I’ve stayed in my fair share of fancy hotels! But never again - I’m searching B&B’s like this one from now on when we travel. I highly recommend giving The Old Caledonian a try! You will not be disappointed. 👍👍

We loved our stay so much we tacted on an extra day and got lucky enough to be able to! This place is amazing! Super clean, well kept “old timey” bed and breakfast. A great mix of luxury and old world. The owners are super friendly, accommodating, and available without being overbearing or hovering. The food is amazing. The library has a cool variety/selection of books and board games. A must stay. A great get away in rural Missouri most don’t get to visit. So many cool sites in the area and The Old Caledonian is a great home base. All rooms are super unique from each other but the photos are from our room after we stayed in it. Rooms are large, plenty of storage area, and each has a dedicated bathroom. Can’t say enough!

They welcomed 10 women with open arms and let us settle in their beautiful and finely decorated home. We rented the entire home and settled right in. The beds are super comfy with luxurious linens and each room is tastefully decorated! Jon is a wonderful chef and wowed us with a wonderful vegetable egg loaf, fresh fruit, & melt in your mouth biscuits for breakfast and caprese salad, cornished hens, wonderful veggies, wine, and delicious dessert for dinner. Afternoon tea was truly a treat with scones, baked goods and finger sandwiches! Beautiful ride outside of St. Louis and a great experience! Thank you Jon and Penny for your hospitality!

Just PERFECT!  The inn itself is stunning in every way. Beautifully presented with loads of great detail in the décor - the woodwork in the house is outstanding!  We got to have tea time and it was so lovely!  We each got to pick our own tea and we had scones, shortbread, a mini-muffin and a small cream cheese and cucumber sandwich.  The little fridge in the room with cold beverages is a very nice touch and so was the wine list in the room! Jon and Penny have provided great ideas on things to do locally - they really have thought of everything.  The breakfast was truly amazing and they are happy to accommodate any tastes or dietary restriction.  We had ricotta stuffed french toast with house grown and made mulberry compote! We also had house cured ham and a scrumptious bisquit with brewed tea, oj and ice water! Don't forget to check out the Mercantile across the street too!
