After a week of evening eating out, looking for gastro pubs or bistro-style restaurants, this was about the best we found in the area. Neither the menu choice, quality of food or efficiency of service could be criticised. A lovely meal at a value-for-money price in a relaxing environment.

My wife and I were in the area for a couple of nights and stayed at The Pack Horse. As we had booked last minute we found ourselves in a twin room, not the best they have on offer. It was very small and single beds don't make for the best nights sleep. That said, we were warmly welcomed, enjoyed... More

Visited the Pack Horse on Saturday evening. The food was excellent. Both courses were delicious. A lovely menu with lots of choice. Dog friendly which is an added bonus. We were served by Eve who is an asset to the Pack Horse. We will certainly return in the near future to sample some other lovely food. Definitely one of the... More

Dear Clare, thank you for your comments and bringing this to our attention. We are very sorry for this extra charge and offer our apologies. This was a misunderstanding between our chef and staff. We completely agree that extra gravy should not come at an additional cost. We would like to offer a drink on the house for you and... More

Recently stayed in Ellingham and visited the Pack Horse twice. Sunday lunch was great, with both the beef and chicken supreme very much enjoyed - an interesting bowl of deep fried cauliflower florets accompanied the vegetables. Later in the week we had the beef bourguignon and butternut squash gnocchi - both excellent. Friendly accommodating staff; dog friendly when eating in... More

Having eaten here in May my wife and I booked a room for B&B in July for an overnight stop on the way south from Scotland. When we arrived at 5.00 pm the pub was closed and nobody to check us in so we had to go to the beach for an hour. When we returned the pub was open... More

Stopped off on the way up the A1 and so glad we did. The service was super friendly. And the food was delicious. Recommend Black pudding fritter, goats cheese salad, burger and the pork pie. Fantastic food. So much better than MacDonalds!!! Look out for the sign on the A1. Olive green and classy.

We visited whilst staying locally in the village, having tried to get to the bar when we arrived on the Saturday we knew it was popular from the large crowd gathered both inside and out. We booked an early evening meal (accommodating old folks) and were delighted that our four legged pup could join us. Food, service, surroundings and price... More
