It began in 1927 when the Branigar brothers, originally from Chicago, recognized an amazing stretch of property located on Fort Bayou that offered unparalleled natural beauty. Immediately, they knew its unique and rich landscape would be the perfect setting for what they referred to as "a resort like no other in its era." And so, Gulf Hills Hotel was born. Stayed the night and while it was a little odd getting to the hotel on the small roads it was worth. Lobby is beautiful and the rooms were nice. Saw some complaints about beds and while it is a hard mattress it is perfectly fine.

Rooms were very clean and sealed . They had sanitizer everywhere, due to covid they cooked a limited hot meal for you, I did not find any to go breakfast boxes. They had coffee in the lobby. The room was very clean. They gave you shampoo/conditioner, Make up remover and soap. There was a coffee maker in the room that brewed 1 cup at a time. Was right off the I-95. Had plenty of parking. Room was very quiet

We absolutely love Gulf Hills Hotel. The rooms are always clean, and their salt water pool is awesome. It’s hidden in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. The only issue we have ever encountered is the loud talking of golfers pretty early in the morning (well, early for us if we’d had a late night and want to sleep in). This can be resolved/avoided by either requesting a room on the opposite side of the golf course, or by bringing earplugs to wear. The continental breakfast is just that - continental. They do have a nice variety of options and always have fresh fruit, danishes, yogurt, oatmeal packets and the like. Check out this nice getaway. You’ll be glad you did. They even have some interesting Elvis history there. It’s kind of like stepping back in time and experiencing some nice southern charm.

My husband and I along with 3 other couples (ranging in age from 60-80) stayed here for a guys golfing/girls shopping trip. I did not make the reservations; our friend did, and had I known there was no elevator, I would have requested rooms on the first floor. As there were no luggage carts, we had to carry our things up the stairs and that was not what I was expecting to have to do. The staff was very friendly, and amid the COVID-19 restrictions, they were doing their part to make sure we were safe. They did not offer daily maid service so no one would be in our rooms besides us, but they said whatever we needed, to just ask. The lobby was quaint and inviting. The rooms were like others have said...dated furniture, but not to the point of being shabby. There were a few things that would have made our stay more pleasant: a towel bar/ring beside the sink to hang our hand towels on, an extra roll of toilet tissue already in the room, and a box of tissue in the room. The magnifying mirror was old and non-working. Our sink didn’t drain well and the mattress and pillows both were very hard to me and I did not sleep well. I could not get the wifi to connect to my phone easily and finally just gave up. The golf course and restaurant were closed, but the free breakfast bar had a pretty good variety, but nothing hot except toast. The hotel is very close to restaurants and casinos, but off the beaten path, so it’s quiet and secluded. We were told that they are making the golf course into a 9 hole one and building houses on the remaining land, so there may be construction going on soon. If you’re looking for a new, modern place, this is not it. If you’re looking for a quiet place with a bit of history, you’d probably like this one!

While the concept of this place is nice... it is far from comfortable. Let me begin with, this was absolutely the worst bed I’ve ever slept on in my entire life. My back is still hurting all the way to the front of my hip bones! I don’t mean a little hurting, I mean extreme pain! I did not go into the lobby area so I cannot comment on this. But our room was very outdated. The cleanliness is average. There was a hole under our outer door big enough for a rat or a snake to enter. I’m sure “ in its day” it was a nice place. But currently, it needs some attention. I really cannot give it a decent rating since the bed almost killed me !
