We have been there for 3 nights with a bunch of friends after visiting Cape Town and Kruger Nationalpark where we have been spoiled already. BUT what we found there was simply a dream. Beside of the amazin idea of an eco lodge that creates its own electricity and hot water, Liz and Lisa have created a heart and soul touching island in a world that usually makes us running faster and faster.
I cant remember when I was so close to nature and earth grounded the last time. Waking up in the morning with a view on the sea and the whales. Be surrounded by people that love what they are doing and not see you just as a guest but as part of the family.
The cosyness of the entire lodge and the "coming from heart" service we found was something different.
I am travelling a lot, but cannot remember that I found a place like that anywhere else where you just feel home and there is nothing else missed or needed beside of what you find and get there.
Thanks to the entire team for amazing days that still turn in my memories.
We will come back - for sure.

+1
We are a couple of 60+ and traveling quite a lot around the globe and visiting mainly natural and historical places . Mostly we enjoy lovely boutique places as well small personal lodges. We are glad to share our experiences in a brief form below (including photos) with YOU:
+ . Adventurous drive through sandy dunes, we were very lucky that our guest holder Liz waited for us to lead through the last 4 miles, after she put our tires "flat" to 1.8bar.
. After arriving: What a view! Each of the 5 spacious wooden bungalows gives direct ocean view with a 180° panorama
. Only a few steps separate these lovely bungalows from the vast proper, sandy beach - you alone, hardly somebody else to spot
. Fully ecological - but with most of the comfort of the 21st century - we enjoy our stay mostly out on the large wooden terrace on a sofa or on a long-chair, for relaxing in our nice sleeping room (equipped with a shower cabin, a wash basin and a toilet)
. There is a beautiful, clean fresh water swimming-pool behind the very comfortable lounge, bar and dining room.
. The owner Liz & Lisa are extremely friendly und helpful: they read every wish from your eyes: nothing is impossible.
. Details make life here to "Palace on Earth": every morning fresh coffee is prepared outside your lodge veranda; breakfast with freshly made juice, mango & papaya slices; for dinner you have they joice of seafood, meat or vegetarian.
. Simon (the cook) lets get every dinner to a real outstanding surprise and all the staff is outstanding friendly
>>> Therefore I can highly recommend this place - if you miss it, you really missed a perfect relaxing holiday in a special surrounding!
! ! Access only with 4 WD (advisable reduce air pressure in the tires to 1.8 bar!)
- ! In the room no TV, no AC, no fridge, no hairdrier - but electricity working the whole day
- ! Mostly no internet access and no WiFi in the area

We just returned from an amazing family vacation at the BlueFootprints Lodge. The Lodge is in an absolutely spectacular location. The 5 chalets quite remote but are close enough to walk or drive to Barra or Tofo, and when you want to just relax there's a great deck and pool. All the chalets have a magnificent view, looking directly onto the beach and there are few other people around for kms in each direction. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and catered to all our needs. They gave great recommendations for local restaurants and activities. The most impressive aspect was their attention to detail - from coffee in the mornings on our doorstep to baking a cake for my mother's birthday to champagne and fantastic local entertainment on new years eve. Would recommend to others in a heartbeat!

There is no word to describe this amazing and peaceful place with refined style perched on a Rock with a breathtaking view.
The staff will make your stay unforgettable as they are very polite, nice, welcoming and friendly.
The food was delicious, varied, and very fresh.
The room was very clean and well decorated with white curtains which filter a bit the day light in the morning, the room had a beautiful terrace from where you can admire the see. Last but not least we had an outdoor coach and a hamac...everything was meant to make our stay perfect !

We have just returned from a wonderful stay as two families at Blue Footprints - it truly is a magical place. Of special note was the magnificent views - we lost count of the whale and dolphin sightings, the very friendly and accommodating staff who could not do enough for us, the special attention from the owners who were always in attendance and especially the food that really was fantastic. Thank you to Liz and staff for making us feel so special.

We enjoyed our 3 nights here and wish we had stayed longer. Lisa and John were fantastic hosts and made us feel very welcome - they are very knowledgeable about the country and area and we never tired of talking to them. You very quickly become comfortable and feel at home. On our first night, they organised a picnic on the sand dunes to watch the sunset which was amazing The bungalows have luxury touches which is a total relief after staying in other lodges - everything is clean (so nice to have a clean mosquito net). The food is fantastic with plenty of choice and lots of seafood - Candice is an excellent chef and all the staff are friendly and go out of their way to help you. It was an absolute joy to watch the ocean and the dolphins and you can walk for miles along the beach without seeing another person. It's approximately a 45 minute walk to Barra but after we'd spent 8 days in Barra, we didn't want to revisit - we were happy reading by the pool or in our hammock on the sundeck. We couldn't get enough of the place. Thank you so much for making our holiday amazing.

I took my husband to Blue Footprints lodge for his birthday last week and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The lodge is situated on sand dunes right on the beach between Tofu and Barra. The hosts Liz and Lisa were so hospitable and couldn't have made us feel more at home. Douglas the waiter is so sweet, he remembered our names and what we especially liked for breakfast. Sam the chef cooks fantastic food. On the last night he did a Braai which was so yummy. He even baked my husband a chocolate cake for his b'day.
I would definitely recommend this place as a romantic getaway. With no internet, TV and the most wonderful surroundings you can switch off and just chill!

We spent an amazing 5 days at Blue Footprints - and fell in love with the place, and with Mozambique!! Liz, Lisa, and the entire crew (plus adorable doggies) were awesome hosts and truly went beyond to give us friendly advice, amazing service and an all around good time. Food was also great with lots of fresh seafood and even a large fish braai (with barracuda) on our last night!
The place is a bit isolated from everything but that was a big part of the appeal - going down to the beach you have the place to yourself (as opposed to other nearby beaches where you get beset by hawkers), and the small number of chalets makes the experience that much more personal. It also allowed us to sleep with the doors open to get the full sound and smell of the sea all night. Plus, the hosts will happily give you rides to wherever you want to got in the area!
We looked at a few other resorts both online and also while there and this place definitely impressed us the most by far (the eco part is also a huge bonus - not only is it super good for the environment, it also means they are not reliant on local and unreliable electricity and water). In the entire area (including Tofo and the Barra beach) the only place that even came close in terms of the beauty and quality is the Flamingo Resort - but honestly, it also had a bit more of a large resort-y feel and for us Blue Footprints was really the way to go!!
The diving in the area is also great and lots of fun things to do in general. We hope to go back there again soon. Maybe as soon as for whale season in September!
Thanks for an amazing time Blue Footprints!! You guys ROCK!

Dear Hannes, thank you so much for the message. I am so sorry we do not have any camping facilities at all. There is only one camp site in the Barra and Tofo area... I will try and get you the number. But please let me know if you would be interested in taking the lodge self catering over that time period.
